I'm sure New England's front office will only trade up for him if they have a reason to do so. Someone might be trying to get ahead of them for Jordan.
The closer we get, the more I think the Jets will trade out of the first. There will be some teams antsy for a QB, not to mention the Raiders may be looking to get in the first to get Jimmy Smith. If that happens, hello Jabaal Sheard.
Jets coach Rex Ryan is reportedly making a "big push" for Arizona DE/OLB Brooks Reed with the 30th pick in the draft. Ryan is reportedly also "campaigning" for Jimmy Smith one year after drafting CB Kyle Wilson in a similar spot. Beat writers have been waffling between Reed and UCLA's Akeem Ayers in the first round. from Rotoworld Tony Pauline...
I want Cameron Jordan so badly. Keep him off the Patriots and add him to us. I kno we will have to give up quite a few picks to get him but it will be worth it. If he ends up on the Pats ill be pissed.
I don't want Brooks Reed at 30. I think he's a mid-to-late second round prospect. If we end up with Jimmy Smith, I'll be pretty excited. That would mean the end of Antonio Cromartie in New York, but that also means we'll probably keep both of our starting wideouts. ...haven't really thought of Smith as a realistic option until a few days ago. I've been doing a lot of digging - kid's a hell of a run defender for a cornerback and he's got great ball skills.
^ I agree. This isn't a con, but with all the comparisons to Clay Matthews, I get the feeling he's a bit overrated.
Talent-wise yeah we (hopefully) could do better... but he just seems to fit what we do on D so well don't you think? 260lbs OLB that's pretty atheltic and plays with a mean streak. That's a Rex OLB.
I wouldn't be all that pissed if the Pats end up with Cam Jordan, especially if they trade up. I've faced it that no matter what, they will get some quality players with so many picks....worse things can happen than spending 2/3 top 33 picks on Cameron Jordan.
Reed's never played linebacker. He's always played with his hand on the ground. He's got limited pass coverage experience and I've seen him get dominated by big linemen. People are constantly knocking Ayers for not putting up big sack totals. It wasn't Ayers' job to get after the QB and he still ended up with 4 sacks in 2010. Reed was a defensive end and only had 2 and a 1/2 more sacks than Ayers...in the same conference...against the same teams...with more opportunities to go after the QB. Sure, he's a hell of an athlete, but he's VERY overrated.
It seems likely that two QBs will go top 10. I don't see any of the QBs as being elite prospects and I certainly wouldn't be taking any of them top 10. But when teams drafting high feel they need a QB, they do it anyway. BTW, the draft chart overvalues high picks in the current system.
I'm with Tom Jackson on this one: Cam Newton is the most physically gifted QB prospect in the last fifteen years. He's worth a #1 overall pick. I'm also not going to be surprised when Colin Kaepernick and Andy Dalton do well in the NFL.
Sure, someone might be trying to get ahead, or someone ahead of them may want Jordan. My comment stands. If they have to give up #33 to get Jordan, I'll be ecstatic.
To an extent, but we don't know what the system governing this draft will be. I'm interested to see how trades go down without players to offset unbalanced trades and without certainty as far as rookie contracts are concerned.
I agree with this. Newton is the most physically gifted, but he is far from a sure bet. I think Kaepernick is going to have a good future in the leauge. I think Andy Dalton kind of maxs out at a Kevin Kolb level, which is certainly good enough to start
It should increase, but not by much. It'll just increase the likelihood of trades happening at the top end, which would be VERY welcome for a lot of teams up at the top end. The value of having a high draft pick would return. It's been diminished for a while.
