If Smith is available at 30, except in the case of certain unlikely secondary scenarios, we should and will take him.
Obviously there is no certainty involved in any aspect of this inherently speculative process, but given several key indicators, I think that if Smith somehow falls to 30 we will take him. His talent is simply too great to pass up at that spot. 1) Several major evaluators place Smith between a Top 10 and Top 15 overall prospect. 2) Smith is arguably the best press corner in the draft (if not, then he's second to Peterson) and a perfect match for our defensive system. 3) Rex loves CBs. 4) This pick would allow us to not re-sign Cromartie and to potentially clear enough cap space to bring back both Holmes and Edwards. 5) Rex & Co. obviously have not shied away from players with character issues. That said, I think there is little chance he gets past Baltimore at 26.
I think you understood what I meant. Not trying to be a shit stirrer, just picking everyone's last minute thoughts while I watch the clock SLOWLY move as I pray for 6 to get out of the office. Anyway, the part I bolded above is intriguing, but I think ultimately you're right that he never gets to us. Fun to speculate though.
If we are legitimately planning to take a run at Aso (unlikely, but still), why would we draft Jimmy Smith? Doesn't make sense.
