    Question for the CBA geeks.

If the league year indeed starts next week....the assumption is that the NFL will enforce the rules from 2010.

Does that mean the Final 4 rules from last offseason will be enforced in regards to Free Agency? Will the Jets be handcuffed again?

I do not know what the rule is but chances are they will not sign everyone who is a free agent so they would be able to sign a player in return for the player who leaves

Im pretty sure the same rules will follow but we are allowed to sign a FA for every FA we lose of equal value. So this year with so many leaving we will have a lot more room to sign people especially if Cro or Santonio go.

Just had a flashback tp the 300 threads and 4,000 questions about the final 4 rules last year. Hopefully they will leave that rule out this time around.

If it's the 2010 rules, it's perfect for the Jets. Holmes, Cro, B. Smith, E. Smith are all restricted FA's

The 2010 rules being enforced would also put the Jets back in that situation where they can't sign a free agent until they lose one. I don't remember if there's an exception for your own free agents, but if not, the Jets could be unable to deal with Braylon Edwards at a time when he'll probably be the best wideout on the market.

exactly, thats what we need to be rooting for. Under those rules, the only major guy not still tied to the Jets is Edwards, the one guy who has said countless times he wants to be back here more than anything else.

Sounds like a pretty good situation if the previously mentioned players stay RFA.

Though Holmes will be pissed if that's the case...hasn't he been pretty vocal about wanting a long term deal regardless of his free agency status?

There is obviously an exception for your own free agents. It would be insane to not allow a team to resign their own players.

    I absolutely agree with you.

    Teams can't handcuff themselves...

No that is the rule. If the Jets lose a FA, than they can sign another teams FA.

If we want to sign all of our FA's, we can.

Yeah, so Holmes is likely gone.

If things turn out the way they look to be turning out right now, don't be surprised to see Holmes threaten a holdout.

I don't think Holmes has 6 years experience, so isn't he a restricted free agent? I seem to remember that the Jet's tendered him at the level that would require anybody else signing him giving the jets a 1st and 3rd round pick, although I guess they would be 2012 picks now.

It is just a matter of time until everyone on this board realizes the likelihood of an extended Holmes holdout is very high.

How many teams are interested in Holmes? Most of the league I thought viewed him as a big of risk. If he gets in trouble again he can be suspended the whole season.
