Just heard tankcessa that as of Friday NFL is back in business. He also indicated that rumors are flying that free agency starts on Monday. Good news is w/o CBA, it might be an uncapped year, so we might be able to keep more of our guys than we thought.
The NFL will announce when free agency begins tommorow. The rumor is monday, SIGN BRAYLON EDWARDS!!!!!
John Clayton on ESPN just said that the rules will probably revert to last years rules meaning that a player would need 6 years to be an unrestricted free agent therefore Santonio by my count would be restricted and our 1st and 3rd tender should help us out.
So without a new labor agreement.. guys like Holmes are still bound by the 2010 rules and their Restricted tag, right?
Not yet. Things will become more clear throughout the day. I think free agency and trades will start some time tomorrow.
If the tags hold up we're sitting pretty. Holmes, Cro, Brad...pretty much everybody but Braylon is on lockdown. Tanny's a pimp.
If they said transactions resume on Friday, then players can and will be traded (presumably during the draft Friday). Also, this means the Jets can sign undrafted players. *I haven't read or heard the actual report though. Edit: I'd also expect Kolb to be one of the first players dealt.
a shyster that has won them every single battle with the league, up until this point if they dont like being rfa, they can just wait until a new cba is hammered out and they will be free to go ... d smith is corny as hell, but he has done nothing but good for the players, so far
"I think the term shyster is often reserved for Jewish attorney's. The word I beleive you are looking for is....Eggplant."
"AdamSchefter Adam Schefter Bottom line: No free-agent signings during draft, no player trades during draft, only pick trades during draft. Free agency could start Mon." Sucky
Beat me to it. No transactions yet. Players will be able to work out, get medical treatment, see trainers, etc...tomorrow.
Hope they can still get a fair agreement worked out. There are things on both sides that need change. I'd like to see changes in how rookies are paid (no more multi-millionaire rookies who don't even have to perform but are paid for what happened in college. Hello VG) And, I'd like to see some type of guaranteed contracts if only some sort of insurance based system where players can collect a percentage of what is left on their contracts when cut. These bogus deals like the one McNabb got during last season are just a sham to all involved - fans included. Vets who have given up their bodies for the sport deserve to get more on the way out, and the NFL needs to stop paying for college achievements, saving more money for some vet-guarantees. This might have been discussed elsewhere, but I thought I'd put it out there since it seems like we'll be back in business soon. Glad things are looking up. We're almost on the clock!
Holmes made it clear he will not sign his RF tender. Basically he is threatening to do what Logan Mankins and Vincent Jackson did last season. Won't be shocked if Tanny trades him before it gets messy.
Any chances of players agreeing to something under the table, say: Jets contact St. Louis at 14 to trade up. They give them the #30 pick and number #94 pick for pick #14. Obviously, this isn't enough to slot up 16 positions but there's a secret agreement for Monday that sends (for example) Jerricho Cotchery and Jim Leonhard over to St. Louis in exchange for some scrub. Is such a thing legal?
I'd be surprised if it were Monday because I just read that's when the motion for a stay will be fully briefed. Maybe Tuessday if the C.O.A. doesn't rule on Monday?
