Don't be surprised if they stay with there picks they draft someone like Mallet or Locker at 33 to groom for 3-4 years and not have a extreme drop off in the QB area when Brady retires.
I don't give a fuck who they draft to "groom" behind Tom Brady, when he decides to hang 'em up, New England will have a drop-off at the position. He's one of the best to ever play the position.
Well of course thats a given, I'm not stating they will go from one hall of famer to another but I'm saying they can try to groom a QB like GB did with Rodgers. And get a productive player who is ready instead of an average QB.
Really? Cmon now , its not preposterous that NE would draft a QB to groom . I know that not many QBs will ever be as great as Brady, that's a given, but having a QB learn the system under Belichick for a few years allow NE to still stay in that 10-11 win range.
WW is right. The Pats DO NOT pass on Peterson. Especially in that defense which loves to mask coverage. Peterson's size will allow him to play safety or corner and the offense won't know which with masked coverage.
thats your opinion, i happen to think that bodden is above average (he should not be grouped with butler), especially as a number 2 corner ... on top of that, the pats just signed him to a a big extention i think they would pass on peterson for qiunn
Elite is debatable. Other than Wilfork, the Pats have a subpar defensive front. Jermaine Cunningham is a good pass-rusher, but JUST a pass-rusher. Jerod Mayo is deservedly a Pro Bowler, and Brandon Spikes will pair well with him inside. If McCourty continues to progress, he'll be a very good CB. Pat Chung is a better Special Teamer than a Safety. Meriweather is highly overrated/may not be with the Patriots much longer. That is not a recipe for an elite defense. For Belichick to have an "elite" defense, he's gonna need to draft players who can be elite defenders. As it is, it can be a good defense, but not quite elite.
Peterson is a game changer and clearly the Elite player at his position. Quinn is a great player, but not the BPA if both are available. Bodden is a JAG!!!
once again, your opinion the pats have invested a lot in corners in the past few years (both in the draft and free agnecy), i dont see them trading up to go that route again ... but im not going to change your mind so we'll see what happens
Quinn is a little over rated in my humble opinion, didn't really play against great comp and had one good year.
1. After what we gave them to move up and get Sanchez? 2. I think probably #17 + #33 + #4th rder get's it done...
I'm not very high on the ACC, but it's not like he played in a mid-major conference. Robert Quinn's a hell of a talent. There's no doubt in my mind that he'd be ranked higher than Von Miller if he played in 2010.
Draft picks are worth more this year due to player-for-pick trade restrictions and no pre-draft free agency, though that may change as of 8am friday. Plus, the mangini factor has been removed. That all adds up to big picks for the #6 spot.
Why should I change my mind?? If Quinn didn't miss 2010, I might agree with you. Peterson is a better football player. It's all probably moot, I doubt this rumor about the trade has legs.
I agree with what your saying I just feel its huge risk to move up that many spots, but then again the pats have 6 picks in the first 3 rounds...
To me the impact players are Peterson or Green. I do not under any circumstance want to see them end up on NE. I also like them both, and hate to have to root against them. If they want to shoot their load for Quinn, fine. At least it's one less high draft pick they'll have.
You're probably right, but I think there's a chance that next year's picks might become more valuable than this year. The reason being that this year's picks might (probably?) be compensated under the old CBA, i.e., no rookie salary cap. I would have a hard time seeing the new CBA (whenever it is ratified) being retroactive to this draft. Conversely, I fully expect a rookie salary cap to be an integral part of the new CBA. Thus, next year's picks could be much more valuable since there won't be as great a financial risk with picks. In addition, some standard length of contracts might be included, and/or changes made to the Franchise and Tender tags that could have an impact upon the value of draft picks.
thats my point, theres no use in us going back and forth and reiterating our points ... weve stated our cases and no ones mind is going to change but i agree, probably a moot point
