Apparently Sanchez organized some offseason workouts out in Cali.. I'm sure most of us read how Holmes said he won't be attending 2 weeks ago when he made all those comments. Well thanks to Manish, here's the list of the players who will be attending: RB LaDainian Tomlinson RB Joe McKnight FB John Conner WR Braylon Edwards TE Dustin Keller TE Jeff Cumberland QB Kevin O’Connell WR Brad Smith, who is a free agent, isn’t likely to attend. Fellow free agent wideout Santonio Holmes, who attended last season, said earlier this month that he won’t be going due to a familiar/personal matter. It's awesome to see Braylon going even though he's also a free agent. It's obvious he wants to return to the Jets so bad.. I really hope we can find a way to bring back both him and Holmes.
Whoops.. here's the link: http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/je...-for-teammates-may-2-8-in-southern-california
it's not going to be much of a passing camp without any WR's to throw too... Definately thrilled Braylon is going, surprised Cotch won't be there, although he did say he just started running the other day because of that surgery. Very dissapointed in Greene for not going. I am however super pumped Mcknight and Connor are in, they can really learn alot. If nothing else, they can pickup on some of LT's offseason habits. There is a reason he was so successful for so long in the NFL. If they can pick up those workout habits, they can really turn into great players with lengthy careers... Hell I hope any rookies we might draft, agree to deals with for UDFA's (if that of course is possible...) get there asses out there as well. Sanchez is the man. Hopefully this year the t-shirts are much better than this effort...
I forgot Cotchery had surgery and was wondering why he wasn't attending. Good call. As for not having many receivers, I'm sure Nacho can pull some WR's from the area if he needs to ...
yeah but guys like Patrick Turner should be going, also I believe we have 3-4 receivers signed to future deals. If they want to make the team, what better way to do it than by learning the ins and outs of the game from your QB?
I posted before but it didn't go through. I'm also surprised that Patrick Turner isn't there. Being friends with Sanchez and going to USC and all.
Joe McK's attendance is great to see. He has to make an impact next year. I'm glad he's showing he loves football. He's going to shut a lot of people up next year.
Cool to see Cumberland going too.. hopefully he can develop into at least a little bit of a threat as a 2nd tight end. God knows Hartstock was absolutely useless as a receiver. And if we lose one of Holmes/Edwards, going to more 2 te sets could be in the cards.
I'm really glad to see McKnight is going to be there. Cumberland is doing himself a huge favor to try and make the roster this season as well. Hopefully Conner's presence means he'll be getting some passes out of the backfield. His hands were a very underrated aspect of his game coming out of Kentucky and giving Sanchez another option on underneath patterns would only help him.
Not to mention the fact that if a FB is a legitimate passing threat, you can keep him on the field much longer.
I was more than satisfied last season when we were getting Keller involved heavily and were running with Braylon and Cotch. Keller was on pace to be a top 2-3 TE until Holmes came to play.
If McKnight learned pass pro then that combination would be quite scary. 9/10 times it would be McKnight going for the route but that 1 time would be a killer.
Through the first 4 weeks he was the leading receiving TE, that's all I meant. He was getting a ton of looks.
Hell yeah, this is great to see! I like how this new Jets team is developing all these team-building traditions, such as training camp upstate in Cortland, and now also the “Jets West” camp too. First of all, this really shows Sanchez’s development as a leader, or the leader of this team. What better way to build loyalty with your guys than to have a throwing camp with them in the offseason? Sanchez is developing nicely into the man we want running the offense. Secondly, it’s a big deal to see Braylon going to the camp, even though he’s a free agent. He and Sanchez are building trust that will translate to the field. They already have good chemistry on the field. Braylon is our #1 receiver in my opinion. Holmes seems to have turned out to be a one-year mercenary for us.
It's also great for merchandising. Sanchez made some Jets West t-shirts last year that a few lucky fans won. I hope the Jets themselves start offering some.
Yeah, I guess. Like the ones that Keller is wearing up top there? I saw a few pics of those last season. I think Holmes had put a pic up on his twitter, or someone did. Honestly, they're hideous, looks like a 1st grader drew it (probably intentional). I wouldn't wear that in public, its gayer than the "Flight Boys" shirt, IMO. But, if they came out with a cool t-shirt, I'd consider buying it.
