I think so too. ...just saw a report that Cleveland will not select Quinn because of medical concerns. In my opinion, passing on a kid this talented would be a big mistake.
Nice list.. I like how you tailored it to the Jets defensive system with the 3-4 rankings. I agree with much of it. My changes would be this: QB- I like Mallett as #2, Gabbert 3, Kaepernick 4, Locker 5... don't like Dalton at all really, and has nothing to do with the red hair haha 3-4 DE- Since we are counting Dareus and Fairley here, i'd have them 1-2, followed by Watt, Jordan, and Wilkerson 5 over Heyward. OLB- I'd have Kerrigan 4, Ayers 5... you like Martez Wilson over Reed, Sheard, and Houston? In a 3-4 I'd think he would be more of an ILB, no?
Thats interesting because, if I heard correctly on NFLN Cleveland is one of the teams that doesnt believe that Bowers knee injury is as bad as others say it is. I agree passing on Quinn would be a huge mistake
Thanks man. Those are the players that we should be paying attention to. Ryan Mallett is more physically gifted than everyone except Cam Newton. I'm not sure he has the mental part of the game down. I don't see him becoming a leader. Andy Dalton is just a winner. If he ends up in Tennessee, I think he'll be successful if they get him some receivers. With a strong running game to lean on, he'll do enough to keep teams in games. He's ready for the pros and that's what I like about him. I've watched Colin Kaepernick butcher WAC defenses for years. The kid's special. The scary thing is, he's still getting better. There's no chance Jake Locker will crack my top five over WINNERS like Dalton and Kaepernick. To me, Jordan is a little overrated. I think he might get pushed around by NFL linemen. Heyward gets the nod over Wilkerson because he was more consistent. Kerrigan doesn't have a high ceiling. He works incredibly hard, which I really like...but in the first round, I'd rather grab someone with greater potential. I don't care how slow Ayers ran his 40, he's a going to be a stud in the NFL. Martez Wilson can line up all over the field. At Illinois, he played defensive end, inside linebacker, and outside linebacker. Since the beginning, Jabaal Sheard has been my guy, but versatility puts Wilson over the top. If I had to label someone the Jerry Hughes of 2011 it would be Brooks Reed. He's incredibly overrated right now. Justin Houston wouldn't fit well in Ryan's scheme.
Luke Stocker I like alot....took him in round 4 in the TGG Draft and he could go as early as round 3. What's with not having him in the top 5 of your TE Rankings? Would he be a reach in the 3rd round or 4th round? What am I missing about Stocker? Would rank Sheppard higher than Herzlich but if there was ever a chance Mark could regain his form, he would definitely be higher.
All great points.. just a matter of preference on some players I guess. Like I said, I liked most the list and pretty much just nitpicked some spots. Totally agree on Reed.. I think he's going to be picked way too high. I think his upside is minimal, and teams are focusing on his 10 yard split as if that's the end all be all of being a great pass rusher. Like I mentioned in another thread, I thought it was telling that Bill Parcells had him as a 4th round grade. Not saying he sucks and should be that low.. but just that Reed has really seemed to fly up the boards and not everyone agrees with it. You may have seen this.. but this is a pretty interesting read: http://footballoutsiders.com/ramblings/2011/sackseer-lets-try-again
As far as I am concerned the Browns are idiots if they take anybody but A.J. Green or Julio Jones at 6. Both guys are extremely talented and the have jack shit at receiver. As we are fully aware in order for a young QB to succeed, they need big time weapons. Thats why we went out and got Braylon mid season and then swung a trade for Holmes. If the benign brain tumor forces them to make the right choice so be it. Jones would help make Mccoy the best he can be. If thats not the most important thing that their franchise can do thursday I sure as hell would like to here what is. If somehow both guys are gone at 6, then Quinn should be their choice. But I find it hard to believe both go before 6...
Interested in your opinon on Wilkerson, I noticed he wasn't ranked in your top5 34 DE's. I like him better than Heyward because he is a better pass rusher. They can kick him inside on passing downs. He is also bigger and more athletic than Heyward. Believe he has a higher ceiling as well. Love this pick!
Wilkerson was a smart pick at 30. He was definitely the best player available at the time. To me, it seemed like the Jets were trying to make a trade...but I'll definitely take him at 30.
Its a bit concerning Wilk didn't make either 3-4 NT or 3-4 DE on this list Jakey Locker 2nd QB taken off the boards though.
1. He's not a nose tackle. 2. He's #6 in my rankings - every player except for Heyward went ahead of him. ...and he'll probably suck. (also, you just called a grown man "Jakey" and used an emoticon. El terrible.)
Haha just teasing ya with Locker. I could imagine your reaction when you heard he was picked that high. Hopefully TEN can give him more weapons besides Britt and Chris Johnson....Jared Cook has to step it up now. Locker has a great chance to start opening day for them, which I am happy about. Just gotta hope Clausen can get that same opportunity elsewhere. The "WTF" is the same reaction I had when Ponder went to Minnesota.
