I'm surprised you like him, even with the complaints of him taking time off and Inconsistency. I like Austin a lot but would rather trade back and get him. If those players are gone and Austin is there would you rather take him or Justin Houston?
If you didn't read it then how did you know that I'm more focused on the Jets as it was within the area you didn't read that I made such a comment? Is one a mind reader? In keeping with your mind reading talents you appear to have also made the judgement that I am a bandwagon fan because of course only people like you...those who 'understand football' and the value of trading back in the draft are true fans. Now I can't validate my Jets legitimacy Obama-style. I can only say I've been following the Jets since Pennington's first year. Take me at my word or not. You domino effect rant on the impact of the draft if once again totally irrelevant. I understand all of this and appreciate the impact each decision may have and would read about it the next morning, but for the purpose of staying up all night it would be nice to see the Jets make a pick. It is really fucking simple point that you continue to fail to understand. None of what you said has anything to do with my original comment. You have repeated the same mistake as you did earlier but just attacked from a different standpoint. Are you seriously going to continue down this line of flawed debate or just accept you fucked up in the first instance?
We're all on the same side. We all have our ideas to put forward. You don't need to insult everyone who disagrees with you.
Marvin Austin. I'm with you on trading back - that would be ideal. Something tells me the Bears will take Austin before we even get on the clock, so he may not even be a possibility for us. I don't want Justin Houston. I think he'll be a solid 4-3 defensive end, but I think he'll struggle at linebacker in the pros. (...before his fan club shows up, I know he's got experience at LB in the 3-4, I just don't see him being successful at the next level)
There are no sides here. I'm not insulting anyone either. If someone thinks trading out of the back end of the first round is annoying, then I'm going to disagree with them. Oh, I understood what you said. I just thought it was stupid.
That's not what he meant. He's obviously just a casual fan that doesn't want to stay up just to watch the other teams pick.
This is no place for casual fans. I expect this forum to overflow with stupidity over the next few days - just getting warmed up.
I lol'd at that because it is extremely true, that's all Houston fans have to argue with. To me I think it's a toss up, maybe leaning a bit more towards Austin since I see him dominating lines and commanding double teams, but I do see Houston as a good pass rusher in a 3-4 in certain situations. I've always been an advocate for him being drafted as a 4-3 end but I think he can be a good situational sack guy for a team in the 2nd round like the 49ers. I agree that the Bears hype is there BUT if there is an Olineman like Carimi or Solder there I really don't see them passing on them. But if the best OT on the board is Sherrod then I see why they pick Austin over him.
With every post you continue to prove that you didn't get the point. One more time: Trading out of the first round = not annoying, potentially beneficial. Staying up all night to see a pick that doesn't happen = annoying
I went with Ayers... best talent available out of those mentioned. If he isn't there I'd really like to see Wilkerson become a Jet, even if that means drafting him before Heyward. As mentioned in another thread Heyward has a higher floor but Wilkerson has a higher ceiling and with the right coaching he can really become something. Give him one year to learn under one between Ellis and Pryce + Rex at the helm and we might have one heck of a player on our DL. If those two are gone I'm all for getting Heyward, Reed and maaaybe Taylor. After that it's trade down and Sheard.
If the Texans end up with a corner in the first round, I could see them going after Houston in the second. Houston to Houston They definitely need to protect Jay Cutler, but they also have to replace Tommie Harris. It'll be interesting to see who's around in the late 20s.
I still don't see Ayers as a difference-making pass rusher. He'll be a fine all-around player but that's it. Of all those players, I like Wilkerson the most (but chances are he won't be there).
FTR, I don't want Brooks Reed or Justin Houston. I think Reed's a little overrated. I'm gonna put out a final top five for each position later tonight.
Ayers didn't get the opportunity to rush the passer at UCLA. He played an entirely different role for the Bruins. I think you'll be surprised.
