1) CAROLINA PANTHERS - Marcell Dareus, DT, Bama Whether or not this is the pick. I really don’t think it makes sense to take Cam Newton. First being that I hate his attitude, he seems like a prima donna. I also don’t think he is smart enough to play in the NFL and be successful. The second part is if they draft Newton, that pick they used for Clausen was just a complete waste. A Qb needs more time than just 1 year. Was close to going AJ Green here to give Clausen some help, but DT is so much more impactful. 2) DENVER BRONCOS - Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU With Dareus off the board, the broncos go after their second favorite player in this draft. Not much explaining needs to be done here. 3) BUFFALO BILLS - Cam Newton, QB, Auburn Although I am not a huge fan of Newton and Von Miller would be a great pick, The Bills need a player that can change their franchise. I have faith that Fitzpatrick can take a team into the playoffs, but not anytime soon because this team is horrid. Fitzpatrick gives Newton the time he needs to get acclimated to the NFL. 4) CINCINNATI BENGALS - AJ Green, WR, Georgia Cincinnati is calling Palmer’s Bluff but also gives in by giving him a new toy. 5) ARIZONA CARDINALS - Von Miller OLB, Texas A&M Cardinals need a pace rusher and Von Miller is the best in the Draft. 6) CLEVELAND BROWNS - Julio Jones, WR, Bama I was really close to going DE here but I think the Browns can pick that up later in the second round. The Browns have a huge need for a pass catching playmaker. At the moment their best weapon is Ben Watson and that is not saying much. I love Julio in Clevland 7) SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS - Robert Quinn, DE/LB, North Caroilna There were a couple of ways that I could have gone here. Blaine Gabbert was definitely a pick I was looking at, and flip flopped a couple of time but at 7 Robert Quinn is a hard pick to pass up and I think is more of a certainty to be successful. Additionally there will be many qbs available in the early second round 8) TENNESSEE TITANS - Nick Fairley DT Auburn The Titans need a guy to fill in for Albert Haynesworth next to Jason Jones. And Fairley can be that guy. The only question is… will he turn out to be that guy. 9) DALLAS COWBOYS - Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska Dallas is ranked 26th overall against the pass. Prince Amukamara is one of the best players available and fills their need for a cb. Many people have Tyron Smith going here but I just think 9th overall is way too high for his skill set. 10) WASHINGTON REDSKINS - Blaine Gabbert, QB, Mizzou 11) HOUSTON TEXANS - Aldon Smith, DE, Mizzou Houston Just misses out on Prince and an opportunity to get a nose tackle for their 3-4 defense but ends up with one of the best pass rushers in the draft in Aldon Smith. IRL I tink Houston would have traded up to grab Prince. 12) MINNESOTA VIKINGS – Jake Locker QB Washington 13) DETRIOT LIONS - Tyron Smith, OT, USC Lions Draft Tyron Smith to help Stafford from getting injured again. Great Need based pick 14) ST. LOUIS RAMS – Corey Liuget DT. Illini The Rams unfortunately miss out on Julio Jones but end up with a big Dt to cause some disruption in the backfield and build that Dline with Chris Long 15) MIAMI DOLPHINS - Mike Pouncey, C/OG, Florida The Dolphins need some help to sure up their o line. Pouncey can help Henne from getting mauled and open up some holes for brown 16) JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS – Ryan Kerrigan, DE/OLB, Purdue Jacksonville has struck out recently when it comes to drafted de’s Hopefully Kerrigan pans out. 17) NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS - Cameron Jordan, DE, Cal Arguably the top 3-4 de falls into the Patriots laps. 18) SAN DIEGO CHARGERS - JJ Watt, DE, Wisconsin 19) NEW YORK GIANTS - Anthony Costanzo, OT, Boston College 20) TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS - Daquan Bowers, DE, Clemson 21) KANSAS CITY CHIEFS – Gabe Carimi, OT, Wisconsin 22) INDIANAPOLIS COLTS – Nate Solder OT Colorado 23) PHILADELPHIA EAGLES - Jimmy Smith, CB, Colorado Phili gets the CB Help they need. 24) NEW ORLEANS SAINTS – Muhammad Wilkerson, DL, Temple 25) SEATTLE SEAHAWKS – Colin Kaepernick QB, Nevada 26) BALTIMORE RAVENS - Brandon Harris, CB, Miami 27) ATLANTA FALCONS – Adrian Clayborn DE Iowa 28) NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS – Derek Sherrod, OT, Miss St. 29) CHICAGO BEARS – Danny Watkins OG Baylor 30) NEW YORK JETS – Stephen Paea DT Oregon State 31) PITTSBURGH STEELERS – Cameron Heyward DE Ohio State 32) GREEN BAY PACKERS – Akeem Ayers, UCLA, OLB I got a little tired of writing why picks were taken at the end of the draft, mostly because I thought they were pretty obvious of why I took them as well as this stuff takes a long time to do. Some of my picks are a little against the grain, so I am looking for some good discussion. After doing this it is pretty easy to say that I think there will be a good amount of trading in the first round.
Oh good, now there are picks there. I can't really see the Bills going with a QB in Rd 1. It's certainly possible, but I'd imagine they'd be content to wait until the top of Rd 2 knowing that Fitzpatrick played well in spots on a terrible offense last season. They'd be better off sticking with Von Miller and considering someone at the top end of Rd 2, even if Newton falls to them. Most of it looks all right. I'm interested to hear your reasoning for Paea over Ayers and Heyward. If all three were staring at us at 30, I'd hope we grabbed Ayers.
I agree with you but I feel like the Bills need someone to keep this franchise alive and Newton can be that pick that could possibly revitalize a franchise. The reason I picked Paea over Ayers and Heyward is for a couple of reasons. First and foremost this kid is so versatile. He can play the nose tackle and be a similar player to Jay Ratliff. He isnt your prototypical nt, but he is relentless and gets in the backfield at will. Although Short I think he can play that DE roll and hold onto those blocks until he has the opportunity to get into the backfield. As crazy as it sounds he even looks quick enough to come off the edge. This kid is just straight up ruthless. His motor just does not stop. I know rex Ryan will find a place for him in this defense. Paea can be the pass rusher this defense needs. As many people have read I am not too high on taking a DE unless it is Watt or Jordan. I feel like Heyward is nothing special. He has no pizazz to me (yes I said pizazz). Additionally I have no interest in any Ohio State players as of late. On the other hand with Akeem Ayers. I had the bottom of this draft swapped out a couple of times. I think Ayers is a safe pick and most likely will be our pick if we don't trade out of the spot based on what is available, but I don't see him as being that Demarcus Ware we are looking for. Like I said in another thread, to me Ayers is just another Calvin Pace. Which in most cases I would be happy with, but not in the first round.
one of the main things im going to be looking at on thursday is whether the 49ners or the Titans draft a QB with there first pick.. I think that there is great value to trade back into the second and san fran and tenn will both be pressing for the next best QB on the board.. most likely Dalton we could potentially get great value for our #30 pick.. but i think that will be less likely in your scenario.. truthfully I don't think there is any way both san fran AND tenn pass over gabbert.. but hopefully they do.. competing for the Jets pick only makes it better for us..
It's more than just those two... it's Washington, Oakland, Arizona, Tennessee, San Fransico, Buffalo, Miami, Seattle and some other teams are all going to be looking for a QB, which is great for us. teams will either start leapfrogging us into the first to get their guy, which pushes somebody to us, or it creates a bidding war for our pick to get one of the QB's. The only way this situation doesn't do us any good, is if everybody waits to try and trade up until after our selection to leapfrog the bills.
Oakland's not moving up to take a QB. Not with that mid-2nd being their first pick in the draft. They may take someone late, but they're not a trading partner at that point. Miami is the wildcard out of those teams. Without a 2nd, they have to seriously consider a QB in the first round, which could send even more teams scrambling back up into the first round.
