I like the way this breaks, but IMO there is no way in hell we pass on Justin Houston in favor of Heywood. First off Ryan doesn't place a high value on DEs and secondly Houston could be the steal of the draft. How do you pass on a 34 OLB that had 10 sacks, 18 tackles for loss and 44 QB hurries in his first season as an OLB and his first season in a 34 defense?
WW - wonderful stuff - want to take this opp to thank u for ur numerous draft posts and insight. these days i use it as my only guide to the upcoming draft. life just doesn't permit the time this stuff deserves. enjoy the draft jil
You love Houston...........I don't. We'll all know in 2 days. With your thinking Gholston with his unbelievable stats at OSU, should have been a Pro Bowl player.
If Bob Quinn is available at 11 I hope Tanny busts open the Jets Piggy Bank to snag him. Quinn is the answer the Jets are asking for, even if it means mortgaging the draft.
Rock, Quinn shouldn't fall that far, just couldn't find a spot. The Niners could take him over the Prince.
nice i think the Broncos go Miller if that happens, though thats about it.then again they could be smokescreening for Newton or Gabbert
I agree that newton shouldn't be first overall. Panthers would be better served going in a different direction. He does seem like perfect fit for the bungles though. Sill too high Imo.
I think Cam's the best option for the Panthers at #1. As much as I liked Jimmy Clausen last year, he can't win in Carolina with that supporting cast. If Newton goes #1, I could see the Panthers trading Clausen for a late rounder. Cam Newton is a winner that has star potential. That's the type of quarterback that should go #1 overall, the type of player that you can rebuild a crumbling franchise around.
Always a few days before the draft these drug test results are released. Poor judgement when you know you going to be screened. Probably won't effect his status too much. I still think Houston could fall into early rd 2.
High Risk/Reward!! I like Newton, I believe Hurney is going to think twice and take the safer need in Dareus. I don't follow the herd in my predictions. Everyone has Newton #1, I think it will be very interesting draft if Newton doesn't go #1. Since teams can't sign players, we probably won't know for sure till Thu around 8:10 P.M. There is no reason for Hurney to show his hand till he's OTC.
I just disagree with Locker going in the first round (unless its to the Titans) that said outside of Gabbert and Newton the only quarterbacks I could see going in round one would be Dalton and Mallett (IMO is going to make a team very very happy)
I hadn't heard about that. No, not very smart, period, for an athlete at any level who knows he's going to face testing, but especially for one who's seeking a big contract from an NFL team. That definitely lowers him in my eyes. If I took him, I'd make sure he knew that would not be tolerated, and that he'd have a clause written into his contract that any failed drug testing would lead to his being "fired" and sued for the return of any bonus monies paid out. If he wouldn't agree to that, then I'd pass on him. I wouldn't care if he'd had 100 sacks last year.
If I took Heyward, he wouldn't replace Ellis, at least not in 2011, and maybe not in 2012. He'd replace DeVito.
Sorry let me rephrase. In my mock I have Gabbert going to the the 49ers, so he would be off the board by the time the Titans pick
