Good call on Moore, if we can trade back. That's how Sheard would get on mine as well.

That's actually pretty funny, I was thinking the same thing a few weeks ago. Last year everyone thought teams were going to scramble for Clausson and McCoy. Nobody did. I hope this year is different and we rape someone for the 30th.

I'm making a bold prediction that this QB class is going to surprise some people.

Also, the lack of FA and competition for QBs among Rd 2 teams could force a team or two up into the back end of Rd 1. This isn't every other year.

There might be surprises out of guys like Ponder or Dalton but the highly touted/over-inflated will fall flat on their face. Newton will no longer be on the depth chart as QB by 2013, Gabbert will be a backup with another team, and Mallett will be doing meth somewhere in southern Mississippi.

I've never seen Gabbert play, but I will say I do not like his name.

Joe Namath, Terry Bradshaw, Roger Staubach, Troy Aikman, Dan Marino, Joe Montana, Bobby Layne, Sam Bradford, John Elway just sound like great QB names.

Elvis Grbac, Spergon Wynn, Matt Schaub, Steve Pisarkiewicz, Blaine Gabbert- not so much.

(Yes, I know Schaub does not suck. He's not great either.)

"Blaine" sounds like a pretentious character in an 80's high school movie.

I don't think anyone expects moore to be cut in 2012. But its a possibility if Carimi is somehow sitting there at 30.

So then we would move on from moore a year too early as opposed to a year to late. It's the Steelers method which seems to work well. Obviously this is predicated on Ducasse being ready to step in and be a full time starter in 2012 at the guard position. If he isn't ready/capable, we obviously wouldnt cut Moore.

Also if we don't get a guy like Carimi, then its a moot point, and Ducasse would be expected to step in at RT this year and play on the outside for a while if not for his career.

Coming out, the thinking was that he had size to move inside and likely couldn't transition to playing LT at the pro level. The team tried to stuff him inside, albeit at the more difficult guard spot, and it failed. And yet, I keep seeing people who assume the team will try to stuff him inside again; some, like yourself, propose doing so AFTER he spends time at RT. Huh?

If the team takes Carimi in the first, he'll be a wonderful tackle, and Vlad will get a chance to learn the easier of the two guard positions instead. However, the chances of him being a wasted pick most certainly increase at that point.

Furthermore, with our defensive needs and current roster, I can't imagine why anyone would have Carimi in a top 5 desired players list. I'd love a guard in a later round, but to say "Meh, we'll leave the defense for rounds 3 and later.". You know why I'd love to see Carimi available at our pick? So the OTHER team that snags a QB at the top of the first round can give us an extra pick to slide back into Rd 1 and we can draft Sheard.

    That's not a weird name.

    ____

I'm not half-joking. I was about 25% joking with the earlier post. I actually think there might be something to this name issue with quarterbacks.

Not weird, but to me, it sounds like the name of a HOF Qb's name ;0)

You need to get together with Peter King, he has a theory about hair color and the success of QBs...

I don't look at that name as being cool or dorky.
