Gilbert was asked to play 4-3 end in the bears scheme and to drop 20lbs. Jarron Gilbert is not a pass rushing de. Yes he can get to the quarterback but that is not his specialty, he is a 5 technique in a 3-4 defense. I guess the Steelers shouldn't have expected anything from Jerome Harrison when the Ravens released him. Once a player is released he should probably just retire.

ZZZOMMMGG!!!!!!!! Pitoitua got injured last season!!!!! HIS CAREEA is OVAH
Did you see what happened to EJ Henderson 2 years ago? He tore every ligament in his knee and he played great this year racking up over 100 tackles.

With todays technology in medicine and physical therapy. Players can come back from injuries faster than ever.

ZOMG!!!!! MARVIN AUSTIN BAHAHA INSANITY IS SOO STUPID BAHAHAH THERES NO WAY THAT WOULD EVER HAPPEN

McShay and Kiper both have him going 29 to the bears. And after a great workout with Robert Quinn, Austin's Stock has been rising every week. Austin is not an out of the question draft pick. I am not saying I want him as our pick, but I can definitely see him as being a player rex coaches up due to his tremendous talent

In turns of everyone wanting to trade back..

I guarantee you atleast 1 team trades back into the first round to grab a qb.

This. It takes special 3-4 DL's to be effective in multiple situations, and stay on the field.
If we go DL at #30, it needs to be someone the FO feels can grow into the next Ellis or Jenkins. Those guys are not easy to find though. Can't force it.
If they don't feel it is there at 30, move on to another position of need.

A guy i'm def interested in is Wilkerson to eventually replace Ellis.

I can't tell yet if i'm if just getting fleeced by his measurables.
At 6'4" though, with tremendously long arms, and a very naturally quick frame that holds 315, i am enamoured. must admit.

I actually see a little Seymour in Wilkerson's potential.

Am i getting ahead of myself just because he's big and agile? What's the word on this cat?

I think thats the reason that he has been seen as going way before us in many mock drafts. He is a huge body who has some giddy up. I really do not see him lasting to #30

San Diego and Balt i can totally see grabbing him.
Balt has DB, and potentially OL directions they may go.
NE probably won't stay put for any of their picks, so never know.
If he gets by SD, we got a shot.

I could see us taking Martez Wilson in Round 1. It would be a reach, but I can see Rex loving his potential.

my biggest worry with Wilson, and part of why he has been dropping, has been the rumors that he simply has no love for the game. He plays because he can, not because he really wants too. As we all know, players that don't love the game, generally don't stick around for long, and far more often then not, they do not reach their maximum potential, although in some cases this isn't true, the majority however, are.

The Jets weren't impressed with Wilson at his Pro Day.

let me pose this to the draftniks here, if the rumors about wilson not being all that enamored with football are true, how far can he fall? Obviously he is way to talented to go undrafted because he doesnt love the sport. '

Several guys who have hated their sport have still gone on to be very good at it. Curtis Martin, Julius Peppers come to mind immediately as two guys...

Could Wilson fall out of the second? I don't think he is seen as a first round guy at all anymore, but if the rumors are true, how far can/will he fall?

He won't fall out of the 2nd, he appeals too much to both schemes.

I don't like the Rob Rang wrote that Tez didn't have passion for the game based off facial expressions at his pro day. I can't speak for Wilson personally, but I don't do everything with a smile on my face either.

Dunno. Anything can happen, I guess, but I'd be a bit surprised, maybe even shocked if he fell out of the 2nd round. I don't think the only reason he is falling is because of a perceived lack of love for the game. His instincts are terrible. I'm not sure that he has a very high football IQ, and at least up until his injury, his work ethic wasn't very good. Hopefully, that changed his mind, as he supposedly has started studying film and paying more attention in the classroom. He certainly has the physical tools. If Rex sees him as not having a motor, passion, desire to learn and become the best he can then I can't see him having any interest in him. If it's just a matter of technique, that can be fixed. The attitude can possibly be fixed, but that's harder to do/predict and more doubtful.

Ayers and Reed both sound like good picks. I'd be fine with either. Give me a guy who can get after the quarterback.

    Do some more digging, mack.

Ayers and Reed have great potential, but neither was a consistent pass rusher at the college level.

Akeem Ayers wasn't given the opportunity to blitz much, so he could surprise a lot of people.

Brooks Reed combined a nice senior season with a hell of an off-season.

If I had to choose between the two, I'd take Ayers and not think twice. I see a lot of posters hyping up Reed, but I'd take quite a few 3-4 OLBs over him - including my sleeper first round pick: Jabaal Sheard.

I've watched Ayers quite a few times and he'd be a great fit for this defense. He's got long arms, very athletic, covers a ton of ground and is explosive off the edge.

He could be a difference maker on our D Line/OLB corps in short order.

I don't think you could be more wrong about Houston if you tried. You claim he never played standing up, but that is exactly what he did this past season after Ga converted to a 34 D. Most scouts say he is the prototype OLB for the 34 and the kid absolutely lives and breathes the game. He is a much surer bet then Ayers (if there was a sure thing in this crap shoot). Mayock and others think he would have been a top ten pick next year if he returned for his Sr season.

I've made the comparison with Ayers and Gholston in the past. Neither is instinctive. Ayers stops and thinks, he doesn't react. That is why he is always chasing the play. Combine that with his lead feet and this is a prime example of how a good college player wont translate to stardom in the NFL. A fine pick for the third round, but a very high risk in the first.

Then again, we are all entitled to our opinions.

This is a huge mistake in reading a player that i dont understand why people make so much. When Ayers " stops and thinks" he's most likely in coverage and either reading the play and looking to shoot the gap and stop the run or is in a non assignment situation and is deciding whether to cover in the pass or blitz the QB. Also play in a 4-3 alignment when he is not lined up on the edge most plays, unless he was assigned to blitz, are getting made upfront and instead of over running the play he looks to make an impact on D and either dropback because of a play action , cover, or go after the ball. Saying he is a third rounder will get you in draft purgatory .

Hey you mentioned before that you didn't want to draft Houston-- why don't you like him?
