Ricky Sapp, OLB, Clemson- 5th round (#134 overall) Cam Thomas, DE/DT, North Carolina -5th round (#146 overall) These two guys were touted on this message board and many mocks from different sites as mid 2nd to 3 round picks before the 2010 draft. Many of us were high on them as prospects and thought they could be great on the Jets. Even looking back at draft day diccusions many of us ( even myself) wanted Sapp over Mcknight or Cam over Conner. Now im not talking about their careers or discrediting anyone's opinions, my simple question is which prospects could have very similar situations like Sapp and Cam and fall a few more rounds than previously thought?
That would be a hell of a pick up. I think his conditioning will cause him to fall a little bit. It's still very possible for him to go in the third, but he's a guy that I could see falling.
This could be a more obvious one but something tells me Jeremy Beal and Demarcus Love will be available in the end of the 4th maybe even mid 5th round and thats a damn shame.
The campaign for the Aldon Smith fall/Jet trade up. I was asked by bigcotch to bring it back and I thought eh why not..
I don't think there is anyway he makes it out of the second and he may very well slip into the first. When Notre Dame's head coach was asked who was the best player in this years draft you had to coach against, Balwin was the first name out of his mouth. I doubt with his physical skills he drops very far. After all, you just can't cover tall receivers at all.
My guess is gonna be Brooks Reed. We love him around here, but he may be the one who last a bit longer then expected.
to me hes one of those guys that scouts/armchair scouts overanalyze cause of a sudden rise. for me all i needed to see was game tape of him. the guy is simply a "football player" not an athlete trying to fit that mold one thing extremely underrated that jumped out to me was his closing speed when around the ball carrier. theres a few plays where ive seen him move through traffic and beat teammates who are CLOSER to the ball carrier to end the play. thats the kind of thing you cant teach. Bart Scott talks alot but we dont have that "psycho" on the field who seems to genuinely enjoy laying hits. Reed definitely has an x-factor about him. like ive said the only knocks I would have on him is can he look good in space beyond the little weve seen from his senior bowl experiment where they started trying to test his hips. I also am usually a little weary of PAC 10 defensive players. one thing Reed has going for him that ive noticed is he already has developed plenty of seperation techniques even though most people would say he bullrushes but the guys got a quick explosive rip move.
would be good if his character issues dropped him to our 3rd but someone will have possibly nabbed taylor/paea and a few of the 4-3 DT's i'm hoping there isnt a run on them in the early/mid 2nd i do however get a growing hunch as time goes and the reports of Taylors possible unsubstantiated injury rumor; that someone will take Taylor before us. i really dont know why, maybe the Jets are trying to smokescreen other 3-4 teams picking ahead of us or trying to lure a DT needy team in case nobody bites on a QB not named Gabbert or Newton
Aldon Smith will be there in the 4th. We will pass on him though, because Wilkerson is ranked higher on our board, and we took him instead. Luckilly, Aldon Smith will also be there in the 5th, so we'll get him there. Honestly, I could see Brooks Reed, Jabaal Sheard, Raheem Moore and Sam Acho slipping to the third. We might be hyping them a bit- especialy Acho. I wouldn't be surprised to see him as a 4th rounder on draft day. Ready for a crazy prediction? Justin Houston to the Redskins at 10. Lets see how wrong I can be. I'm assuming everything I just said will be incredibly wrong. This shit is too unpredictable.
Nothing with Houston would surprise me. I felt he made a huge mistake coming out this year. I believe that if he returned for his Sr season he could have been a top ten pick and the first LB off the board. He has that much potential and only played LB one season after UGA switched to a 34 defense.
Clayborn is a good choice If that nerve condition scares off some teams in the first round. Same for Bowers with the knee.
