What do you guys think about Kaepernick going in the first. I honestly don't see it, but the more qbs that go in the first the better for us.
...called this during an interactive mock a few weeks ago. Colin Kaepernick is my #2 QB behind only Cam Newton.
I don't doubt it, CK stock has been booming since the Senior Bowl, I thought he was the best there, even over Ponder. He squashed the opinion that he couldn't take snaps under center there, he took to it like a fish to water. Add a little more polish and you got a pretty dangerous QB...
I think Chan Gailey would love to get this kid if the Bills don't get Newton. But I'm not sure he's going to last 'til their second pick.
There could potentially be 5-6 QBs going in the first round. Probably more related to team needs than talent. That's a good thing for the Jets. More good non-QBs fall to 30.
Someone will want to trade back in to get Christian Ponder, Andy Dalton, or Colin Kaepernick. Cincy, Arizona, Tennessee, Washington, Minnesota, Oakland, Jacksonville, and Buffalo could want to get back into the first for a QB.
Whats your thinking on San Fran? I could really see them being a team that wants a guy like Dalton... I see them as more likely to make a trade than Oakland anyways...
I've heard that there could possibly be six quarterbacks drafted in the 1st round. That's astounding considering the lack of quality.
Cam Newton has everything it takes to be a star player in this league. Colin Kaepernick is so underrated. If his team didn't play so many late games, a bunch of you guys wouldn't be so down on the QB class. It's definitely not a great class, but I'm willing to bet at least two of them do very well in this league.
But six guys in round 1? As far as I am concerned, I hope so, because that means guys that shouldnt be falling, are falling to us. It also would mean a significant amount of trade ups imo. I could see teams doing so if the bills/bengals/titans/cardinals/49ers/raiders/redskins/vikings make the jump first, it could start a panic and teams might start moving up the boards left and right... but in reality, I still can't see 6 being taken that early. I mean do people really believe Locker and Mallet are worth first round picks? Ponder? Dalton? I really wonder about Newton, not his talent, but his attitude, will he really put in all the work needed to reach his full potential (which is sky high btw) once he gets paid, and realizes his team (panthers/bills) is fucking terrible? Kaepernick might be the best QB in the draft... he can handle the under center snaps and has shown top end athletic ability and a very strong arm as well. It also possible Kaepernick won't put in the work if he goes to a shitty team, but he played on a terrible team in Nevada but still gave it his all, so it's not as big a question at least for me.... The other guys, I'm not particularly impressed with, but I could see Dalton becoming a solid backup who could eventually develop into a starter ala Matt Schaub or Jake Dellhomme (meaning backing up somebody for 4+ years, and being traded for significant picks and becoming a quality starter for a while), I don't think Locker can make it in the NFL, and Mallet could be in trouble with the law so i'm not all that high on him due to off the field issues. So it's definately an interesting class, and we can only hope Miami chooses to draft a guy who turns out to suck...
Mallett will definitely go in the first. I'm not saying he should, just that he will. I don't know about Locker and Ponder. I think Dalton and Kaepernick have a better shot than Locker and Ponder. There are just so many teams that need a QB, they are willing to give some of these guys a shot over what they already have. Personally I hope all of these QBs get hyped up big time. Who knows, we could end up snagging Wilkerson or someone else that falls through the cracks. I only wish the Raiders still had a pick in the first to waste..... I mean make.
McGay was just on ESPN, thinks that only 3 QBs will go in first. I have a hard time believing that there won't be more than that, although Mallett may be dropping out of the first. I hope he's wrong as usual.
Wasn't impressed with Colin when the Wolf Pack went to South Bend in 2009 for ND's home opener. He looked pretty overmatched early on but he put on good stats when the game was out of reach and the team in general was dominated by a pretty brutal Notre Dame team. Kaepernick should have sliced that awful Irish D. Granted it was 1 game but I really thought he would have killed it that game.
That was two years ago. What did Cam Newton do in 2009? Nothing, because he was playing at a JUCO. The way that improved so much over his career is what I like so much about him as a QB prospect. His stats improved, but more importantly, he carried his team and won more games each and every year - something someone like Jake Locker didn't do.
I like CK's demeaner. Dalton and Newton, too. But not Gabbert. They all carry themselves like leaders. Of course, so did Jim Harbaugh and he was nothing but a backup, but still, I think demeanor of a QB can galvanize an entire team.
At the start of this year I had Kaepernick as a WR in my rankings, that's how far he's come, specifically this past season.
I hope there are 6 QB's taken in the first- someone is bound to slide and some team is going to need a partner to trade down with. Could pan out very well for us with a trade back- hopefully an OLB falls or maybe even phil taylor.
