Thanks. I can't imagine any Jets fan not having that attitude, but have met those who didn't. Even though we're passionate fans and may be knowledgeable, experienced former players and fans, we don't have a crystal ball to know how players will work out for the Jets. Some prospects will become great players in the NFL, but might not for the Jets for any of a number of reasons (injury, pressure of playing in the glare of the NY spotlight, getting too distracted by the temptations and social life in NYC, system, personality of player and or coaches). You're forgetting that the Jets can't trade players until the new CBA is signed, so Bryan Thomas can't be a part of any deal. Also, I don't see any way the Jets trade a starter for a complete unknown in a draft prospect, even if that prospect is a stud. They aren't about to take that risk. Perhaps if their D was crummy and they were desperate to improve, but not a top 3 D. They don't have any depth as it is, either, and you have to give the prospect a chance to develop. The pressure of having to start immediately on a team that went to the AFC Championship Game the last 2 years could cause a player that would normally succeed and become a very good player to bust and fail. You're right that Acho could be gone by the end of the 2nd or even earlier. Mr. E made a point that Jets fans want picks that can contribute this year. I think Rex expects that too after last season. Thus, they could still take Carimi as the BAP if he drops, but I really think they do whatever they have to do to get a better OLB prospect to improve the pass rush. If that means reaching a little and taking Reed over Carimi, I think they do it. If it means trading down into the 2nd so they can get Acho or Sheard, I think they do it. I don't think they'll rely on Chris Carter, Dontay Moch, Bruce Miller, Jeremy Beal, Gabe Miller or any mid-to-lower round prospect to get it done. At least I hope not, because I don't believe it will, at least for a year or two with any of those guys, and maybe never. I also agree that a backup/rotational player at NT is a fairly big need. They're taking a big chance if they wait until the end of the 7th with Nield. I truly hope they don't take Powe, however. In the PFW Chart, Powe is seen as a top of the 7th round pick. He is illiterate and may have severe learning disabilities. That could also lead to making poor off the field decisions. The problem is that there aren't a lot of other great prospects. That's why even though many here don't like Phil Taylor or consider him worthy of a 1st round pick, the Jets may reach and take him at #30, or they could trade down into the 2nd and take Kenric Ellis. The only other decent prospect I've heard about is Ian Williams. I think they have to do whatever it takes to get one of those prospects. The reason I'm not that high on Nield is that he's seen as a one-dimensional run stuffer. I think that's basically what Pouha is. That's ok, but I'd rather have an NT that can really push the pocket, command consistent double teams and get some sacks himself like Jenkins. Of course those guys don't grow on trees, and one can't find them below the 1st round very often, if at all.
If we go DE early I'd like to go with a safety, unless Moch or Acho is their in the 3rd then after Bruce Miller, his speed is adequate enough to get to the QB and he's a hell of a situational pass rusher and would flourish on a team like the Jets. Ian Williams is a good NT that can push that pocket, he'd be there in the 5th or 6th most likely. I'd like him in the Jets. I agree with E and WW85 though in this draft BPA is the way to go, I'd rather trade down and settle for a Acho than reach for Reed. I love Reed at OLB but not over Carimi or a BPA like Jimmy Smith, Watt, or Liuget. Much rather trade down a few and try to draft him .
I wouldn't take Jimmy Smith in any round. His character is gonna cause major problems for whoever takes him. I almost guarantee he'll wind up getting suspended multiple times or arrested and will be a major distraction, even with all his talent. I also temporarily forgot about Sione Fua in that earlier post. I'd be happy to grab him in the 4th round if he's there.
I would, he reminds me so much of Aqib Talib and should be just as good but will battle off the field issues. But if he is there and we feel confident he can stay out of trouble a Duo of him amd Revis even with Wilson is a HELL of a combo in a few years. Mabye even better than cro and revis.
And Talib may be going to jail!!! Talib is bad news. No way he'd ever be on my team. I don't want to win a SB that badly that I'd have thugs and cretins on the Jets. I'm not willing to sell my soul to win.
Completely understand that but imo I'd take skill over issues. Just like we did with Cro, Holmes, and past players. I'm not saying hes my first choice but he is a game changer and opposite Revis that is just a scary thought.
Cro and Holmes are very good football players but they are also good teamates. Their indiscretions have to do with things under their control (procreation and pot). Smith has similar baggage including under age drinking and failed drug tests. However, the bigger issues with Smith, according to PFW, is "a posse of hangers-on, an inflated opinion of himself and thinks he already has arrived." That has Pacman 2 written all over it.... Let it rain, bitches!
JOHNNY THE JET- I just saw MB Green posting something about Aldon Smith potentially falling into our laps. I doubt this will ever happen, but you never know. In the mold of an Indian Rain Dance, I am requesting that you bring back your Aldon Smith Avatar. Any chance of this happening?
NICE!!!! Maybe we should all do it. If there is one guy in this draft Rex would love to coach, I'm betting it's Smith. Aldon Smith- Drops to 24. We trade #30 and our third for smith. Just fucking DO IT. Give me the best DL in round 4, best S in round 5, Slot WR in 6, and DL in 7th. Done.
I wonder if there's a stat that has the number of sacks he's accumulated with and without the gumby...
Nothing will ever take the focus off his ears. I want this kid on my team so bad. I gaurantee you Tanny LOVES him. He likes those high character guys.
Is he this year's Joe Haden? To quote Kentrell Lockett, "Joe Haden ears look like Manila folders!!" and "Joe Haden was on that movie grimlins right!!"
