The Jets are likely trying lure teams picking below their 30th first-round slot who need a quarterback (Bills at No. 34, Bengals at No. 35, Cardinals at No. 38 and Titans at No. 39) to trade up. The Jets, of course, traded up to draft Sanchez with the fifth overall pick two years ago. The Jets, who have significant defensive needs (linebacker, defensive line), are not likely to use the 30th overall pick on a quarterback. Sanchez’s backups include 40-year-old Mark Brunell, who’s under contract for 2011, Kellen Clemens, who’s a free agent, and Kevin O'Connell. Dalton (6-2, 213) completed 66 percent of his attempts last season and threw for 27 TDs and six INTs in leading TCU to the Rose Bowl.
draft him he will be starting by week 9!!!!! oh relax i am only kidding, but i dont hate the kid as a qb.
Has to be a smokescreen as suggested to encourage teams to trade back into the first round - mind you it would probably just encourage them to trade with the patriots - unless its a cunning scheme to get the pats a trade partner for 28 so they dont take another player then that we would want at 30 :mindgames:
I think it's always a good idea to work out QBs prior to the draft... we obviously don't have interest but who knows where he might end up! We could be playing him more often than not. Also we might have an interest a couple of years from now... he would be a great fit in a Rex team.
Rex ...ladies and gentlemen of this supposed draft, I have one final thing I want you to consider. Ladies and gentlemen, this is Chewbacca. Chewbacca is a Wookiee from the planet Kashyyyk. But Chewbacca lives on the planet Endor. Now think about it; that does not make sense! Bill Bellychick Dammit! ... He's using the Chewbacca defense! Rex Why would a Wookiee, an 8-foot-tall Wookiee, want to live on Endor, with a bunch of 2-foot-tall Ewoks? That does not make sense! But more important, you have to ask yourself: What does this have to do with this draft? Nothing. Ladies and gentlemen, it has nothing to do with this case! It does not make sense! Look at me. I'm a Head Coach running a major NFL franchise, and I'm talkin' about Chewbacca! Does that make sense? Ladies and gentlemen, I am not making any sense! None of this makes sense! And so you have to remember, when you're in that draft room deliberatin' and conjugatin' the Emancipation Proclamation, does it make sense? No! Ladies and gentlemen of this supposed nfl draft, it does not make sense! If Chewbacca lives on Endor, you must trade up to the #30 pick!. edit: actually I wonder if (and I dont know if this is allowed) there were not representatives from another team present (on an unannounced basis) that wanted to get a look at the player without drawing a lot of attention? We could have some kind of reciprocal deal going with an out of division team that worked in this way.
This is my line of thinking, with two teams in our division who could be drafting a QB in early round 2, or possibly reaching in round 1. Rumors are he could be a target for the bills at the top of round 2. Knowing what type of player he could become is not a bad idea.
yes its definetely not a smokescreen, if it is its a pathetic attempt at a smokescreen considering the Jets situation already. i like the idea of the poster about just taking a look in case he ends up in Buffalo or something. Or maybe the staff is just doing their jobs by taking a look at a potential good NFL QB. I think GM Wolf said you can never have too many QBs and always drafted one every year. Maybe the staff is intrigued by Dalton and hell if he falls to late 2nd, maybe we trade up and take the man. Sanchez could use a good backup with Clemens leaving and Brunell being OLD as hell. Worse comes to worse, the jets have 2 good QB... eventual trade bait.
