Holmes has a ring and has always played with a good franchise with all the pieces in place. Edwards has experienced being on a lousy team with poor management. Edwards won't sign with a lower end team even for big $, where I think Holmes will.

Also Edwards has way more money in the bank than Holmes... one has the money and is looking for his sb ring, the other one has the sb ring and is looking for the money.

That's an excellent point. A lot of times when guys get to FA they look for teams with the money, but they only have the money because they don't have anyone decent to spend it on.

I am still of the opinion that Edwards should be the Jets' number one priority signing this off season. As others here have noted, he has diverse talents that include his role in the running game. I also think he's sturdy and can become a strong contributor on O for years to come. And also he seems relatively mature for his age, and for an NFL player. mebbe his dui experience helped a bit in that regard.

I also think the CS are very high on him.

    Get it done, Tanny.

Braylon has banked over 25 mil. He can afford it.

Holmes is still looking for that big contract.

Having our most dangerous WR is great, and I love BE. Whats even greater is that I think hes still improving.
Better route running, and the biggest and most obvious, no more dropsies.

Anyone that watched Edwards saw that after his DUI (or whatever he was charged with that was alcohol related) the light bulb seemed to come on. Game announcers kept talking about him taking a much more proactive leadership role and I believe he was even named captain a time or three towards the end of the season. Of the three WRs it would be a crying shame is Edwards wasn't the first resigned.

Personally I wouldn't be upset if Holmes got an offer from another team and the Jets could get a #1 this year or next for him. Wouldn't be a bad deal at all for Mr T. A fifth rounder for three-fourths of a season and a #1.

what do you think hes worth? I figure 6.5/yr with incentives. then again his agent might want to use Holmes departure as leverage

You're about right. He made 7.1M this year I think so a contract near that each year would be on target. Got to figure about $30 mil, 4 years, $15~$18mil guaranteed.

He's worth it anyway. As stated over and over - the help in the run game goes unnoticed constantly. I still remember him pushing one of the defenders backwards - i think Miami Game 2009 - for 30 yards and out of bounds on a run play. That's when I knew he was the right guy for the team.

The DUI and other shit is all incidental BS that I swept under the carpet on my opinion of him. Plus he just keeps saying the right things.

Our offense was a lot smoother without Holmes last season. Keller litteraly dissapeared for like 3/4 of the season when Holmes arrived. I'll take Holmes back but if we lose him I won't care.

Besides we could bring Cromartie back for less, another guy who wants to be a Jet.

I admire Braylon for not "playing the game" but I don't mind that Santonio is.

Gholston has earned more than Holmes and look what Holmes has done.

Since Holmes has already won a SB, and won it in style I can see him chasing money. That being said I don't see why the Jets can't offer a competitive contract.

Holmes has earned since 2006 roughly $9 million, compare that to Braylon's roughly $26 million with one more year of service.

I want Holmes as much as the next Jet fan, until he actually signs somewhere else I'm in his corner. The dude does deserve to get paid.

    Agree on everything.

About the bolded part, I'd say you could say the same about Sanchez, the difference being that Sanchez attitude is more like Edwards.

    ---

I think that if he's not signed yet is not because he's not a priority, but because they need to negotiate the "big contract" Holmes first to see how much they'll be able to spend on Edwards.

If I'm on a limited budget I'd rather face Edwards than Holmes.

You also have to remember that we could sign Holmes to a new mega contract, then he does something stupid and he will be gone for the season with his past record.
Can we afford to take the risk?

I'd rather have Edwards over Holmes.

Also, I can't blame Holmes for wanting to cash in, I really can't. The guy is still young, already has a superbowl ring, superbowl mvp, and has made a proven reputation for himself as a game winner. What else would he want? I don't blame him for wanting to cash in big on all that. If we can't sign him, definitely keep Braylon.

If I were running this team, I'd have done everything I could prior to the end of the league year to get him signed for $6 million per (start negotiating at 5). I'd have pushed the angle of further security going into the lockout.
