That's really a great point about the cap. It opens up the door for a lot of different positions to jump up into that top spot, and really the top five or so overall.

 

Non WR question: How about Akeem Ayers from UCLA? Do you think he can push his way into the first round?

 

Here's the thing. We're just past the first round of rookie minicamp- no OTA's, training camp, pre-season let alone actual games have been played.

How is a mock like this even remotely accurate. Mock drafts are a crapshoot at best, even when just a few weeks out. To speculate about what might happen to a given team nearly a year into the future, when so many variables have yet to play themselves out, is a little foolish, no?

That being said, I know that it gives you guys something to bounce around at a time when this forum tends to quiet down.

 

It gives guys a look at who to watch out for next year. 2011's draft is loaded at the skill positions. There's a lot of exciting, draft eligibile players this year in college football.

It may be foolish to someone that doesn't pay attention to college football, but really it's just an outline. Things will never really settle until after the combine, but you'll usually be able to tell the top tier players for most of the year.

 

The only thing I'd consider to be foolish at this point is the actual team rankings for draft slots next year. Always welcoming the player discussion, as it gives someone like myself who doesn't really follow college football a better idea as to who's hot/who's not.

 

I can't wait for college football to start.

 

For all the talk about how good this past draft was the 2011 draft could and will be even better if the majority of juniors come out like usual.

 

This is one of the deepest skill position drafts that I can remember.

2011's interior linemen (offensive and defensive) and running back class won't be as deep as 2010's, but there's still talent at those positions.

I really can't wait for the college season to start - there's an incredible amount of offensive talent this season.

 

He's a stud, my guess is he finds himself in the top 15 if he plays up to his potential. Phenomenal athlete and has skills as both and end and a linebacker. Right now he's at the top of my OLB rankings.

It's just a more fun way of working out the player discussion. I could post rankings every week, but sometimes people just enjoy reading it in mock form even more. Anyone that reads too much into these things needs to calm down, they exist for personal enjoyment and information only.

I think that the difference will be a stronger initial burst of talent, but less overall talent falling into the mid rounds. After the elite players in this draft, it was pretty much a similar grade on players from the mid first to the 3rd round at a lot of positions. In 2011, if all these juniors declare, there could be a dominant top 32 then a quicker drop-off in the next rounds.

I disagree about the running backs. As much as I liked the top of last year's group, there could be a ton of top level backs in this year's group. Lewis and Williams are Sophomores that could both go top ten, Ingram won't be far behind, and I think some team at the back of Rd 1 will take Royster as a workhorse to pair with a star. DeMarco Murray could explode this year , and Noel Devine will find a place for himself somewhere in the first two rounds. Then there's guys like Daniel Thomas from KSU, Mike Ford, Allen Bradford, Kendall Hunter, and a guy I really like, UNC's Shaun Draughn. Then, for underclassmen Quizz Rodgers, Montel Harris, John Clay, Victor Anderson, Jordan Todman, and Jamie Harper.

 

Can we sticky this one too for future reference? Or is Walterfootball not a credible enough site?

I really like Lewis, Todman, and Bradford, but Quizz, Murray, and Devine aren't every down backs - I think they have the potential to be very dangerous backs like Spiller and Best.

I would take Spiller and Mathews over everyone except Dion Lewis.

Mark Herzlich is the man. If he comes back and is half the player he was before the cancer, I'll be amazed. I hope to see this kid in the NFL.

 

If we didn't come away with McKnight this season than Devine was the guy I wanted the Jets to target next year.

Didn't know about Ford, that pisses me off though. That kid had so much potential but made every wrong move possible throughout his career. He's like a slightly less moronic Jason Gwaltney (who I just researched, and is apparently trying to find money to pay tuition and play at a D3 school here in NJ. He broke his ankle in the first game last year).

I think Murray can be a 15 or so carry back, but he's got to show me a big season at OU. Devine and Rodgers are definitely more niche guys, but I think they can be very effective in those roles, and, in Devine's case, probably enough to be a 2nd rounder.

I agree that Lewis is on par with the best from '10, but I think Ryan Williams is right there with him. He is a stud, big, really fast, gets to his top gear in a split second and can make that open field cut that is just deadly. When it comes to running the football, there is nothing else anyone could ask. What will be interesting about VT is how they'll use Darren Evans, who should be 100% back from his ACL tear. He's not nearly as explosive as Williams, but is a strong, physical runner that, provided his injury is truly healed, plays a very similar game to Ryan Mathews.

And I have to hear the Jamie Harper is a racist story.

 

Wastes of talent. I was excited about Gwaltney a few years ago.

Devine and Quizz are dangerous players. They'll do damage in this league. We saw McCluster go pretty high this year. I like both of them a lot.

I've been waiting for Murray to live up to the hype. I agree that this will be a huge year for him.

In February, I played a state-wide intramural basketball tournament and Harper was on one of the teams. He ran his mouth the entire time and got thrown out...and kept running his mouth.

Any chance Miller falls that low? From everything I've read, he should be gone around top 10 - 15.

 

Its mock from 2010 - though its amazing how nearly every player he had in the first round is still a first round pick. Locker is clearly the player that has suffered the most from playing his senior year (Andrew Luck should have noticed and acted accordingly IMO).
