30) Cam Heyward. DE, Ohio State He's the safe pick. He'll die for Rex. He'll love playing here. He'll get a push on the pocket. He'll get 2-5 sacks a year to satisfy the "Our DE's need to be pass rushers too" crowd. 94) Robert Sands, Safety, WVU It'll look like someone put Calvin Johson in the defensive backfield. He can play centerfield and he likes making hits. He's good value at 94, and I think he'll fall this far because no one is talking about him 126) Cliff Matthews, LB, South Carolina LBs need youth. The board is not falling the Jets way. They'll take the OLB. He has good instincts, and with that he'll do well in Rex's scheme. Rex gets the most out of players like these. 161) Ricky Elmore, OLB, Arizona The board as made us take Brooks Reed's counter part on Arizona's defense. Blame the board not me. 194) Aldrick Robinson, WR, SMU If he lasts this far. I don't know if he's going in the late 4th or all the way to the 7th. He's from a system that doesn't exactly make WRs NFL ready but his WR coach certainly does. 208) Zach Pianalto, TE, UNC I think he'll drop this far. He's a good kid with ability. Maybe in a couple of years he can produce. I really think that Tanny is making a move in the first round this year, and may have to use next years picks to do it. It wouldn't shock me if someone fell and the Jets sneak in at 16 to take someone after the Fins fuck up their pick.
yeah he's an OLB. Not sure why I did that. I took the idea that was discussed in other threads about having two pass rushing LBs coming into this rookie class for the Jets. They need the infusion of youth. Problem is that I really think the board is going to suck all draft long for Tanny and Rex. It wouldn't shock me if they traded up for someone.
I wouldn't put it past them. If they want a player, they'll go get him - that's how it's always been. For me, that isn't a big issue as long as the move works out over time. It's definitely important to build some depth in certain areas, but this team is a few pieces away from winning it all. If the front office feels like a certain player will get us that much closer, make a move and pull the fucking trigger.
Not the biggest fan of Sands, but if the draft fell this way I'd be pretty happy. Any draft that nets us Cameron Heyward, Wilkerson, or Ayers is a ok by me as long as the rest isn't totally twisted. The more I think about it though, if we do go DE in the first, I dont see many options there value wise in the bottom of round 3 and if we wait too much longer we might be looking at guys who need some serious development. Just something I've been thinking about these past couple weeks, otherwise Heyward is a great pick for us.
