I feel so bad for Chad. He could have been a great qb if not for his shoulder problems.

Hopefully he takes this as a sign, becomes a qb coach for a year, and then comes over to the Jets in 2012 as the OC after they come to their senses and fire Schotty's worthless ass.

    Chad Pennington tears ACL

MIAMI -- Hard-luck quarterback Chad Pennington tore an anterior cruciate ligament in a pickup basketball game and will undergo surgery next week.

Pennington's agent, Tom Condon, said in a news release Thursday that Pennington will have the operation April 7 and well-known surgeon Dr. James Andrews will perform it. The release did not say which knee Pennington injured.

The former Jets and Dolphins quarterback is now a free agent.

The 34-year-old Pennington twice has been selected the NFL Comeback Player of the Year, but he lasted just two plays last season with the Dolphins before hurting his right shoulder again. He had surgery on it for the fourth time, but said he wants to try to return to the NFL this season.

A shoulder injury ended Pennington's 2009 season in Week 3. Following arduous rehabilitation, he began 2010 as a backup to Chad Henne, then made his season debut in the ninth game when he started against Tennessee. But he had to leave the game after only two snaps with a dislocated shoulder and torn capsule.

Pennington's career completion percentage of 66.0 is the highest in NFL history among quarterbacks with at least 1,500 attempts. In 2008, his one full season starting for the Dolphins, Pennington led them to their only playoff berth since 2001.

He led the Jets to the playoffs in 2002, 2004 and 2006.

Wow. He is a mess. And what a foolish way to do it. They should have wrapped in bubbler wrap or something for the off-season.

poor pennington, just not durable. he should retire, if he manages to get on the field again how long would he last even as a backup?

Pennington would still be a player better with a torn ACL than the pathetic Henne. The Dolphins are the joke of the NFL

Yeah, really puts that whole earthquake thing in perspective.

It's unfortunate that he's been hurt so much, but he's also made a ton of money and has the intelligence to move into another career easily. I wish we could have seen him at his best for a full career, but I'm not really sad over it.

This sounds like a bunch of BS... I mean, an ACL?? Certainly they mean he broke his shoulder again shooting the ball, right?

Could you see Chad working in an office environment? He'd probably jack himself up pulling files out of a drawer or refilling the printer tray. He's got the worst luck of anyone I ever saw injury wise.

People have mentioned coaching, and Westhoff manned the sidelines with a cane. Chad can do just about anything he wants at this point and I'd assume he'd succeed.
