At least you didn't screw up like a guy on another site I'm on did today. Instead of posting a "Favre to Carolina" article like he planned, he posted a link to a porn site that he apparently copied earlier. So epic, but I guess that goes hand in hand with Favre. http://www.tigerdroppings.com/rant/p/25242777/Favre-to-QB-the-Carolina-Panthers.aspx He changed the link before he got banned...
I'm not disagreeing with you, but what about Jay Cutler? Could it be that Locker just didn't have enough talent around him to allow him to win, no matter how good he was?
I do agree, he is very overhyped but mainly because his Ideal NFL build, Cannon arm, and playing in a "pro-style" offense. But IMO I think he could justify a late 3rd to a 4th pick for a team hoping for a QB to start in the next 2 or 3 years. The only thing I can say for him is that Washington had a great QB coach ( He's the Head Coach just stating his teachings of QB's) who taught the likes of Carson Palmer and Lienart ( should of been better IMO).
Great players make those around them better. In 2005, Jay Cutler was considered the top quarterback in the best conference in college football. They were both four year starters - Locker's numbers never really improved throughout his career. Cutler's always got better. Cutler's got a lot of talent, but he never had a winning record in Denver. He actually didn't have a winning season until this year - a lot of his mistakes caused losses. I can find good and bad in Jay Cutler's NFL career. I don't really know if he's the kind of player someone would want to be compared to.
I'll never argue that Jake Locker isn't incredibly talented, I just don't think he's got what it takes to succeed. I said the same things about Josh Freeman a few years ago. He won plenty of games this year against a cake schedule. I'd like to see him consistently win before I admit I'm wrong about him though. I think the Bucs will take a step back in 2011.
I won't debate if he'll succeed or fail in the NFL(I couldn't care less TBH), but he's got the physical tools to be taken in the first 3 rounds. I think Carolina would be running to the podium if he landed at the first pick of the 3rd round. Now what happens after that? Who knows. He could be the next Steve Young or the next David Garrard. Many picks are about projection, which is why everyone is seemingly in love with Locker. The thing I really hate about Freemen is he always seems to want to use his big arm for everything, reminds me of Brodie Croyle and a rookie Ben Roethlisberger. If you only have 1 type of pass, you won't last long...
I think that step back really depends on the health of their Defense and their draft. Could go one extreme to another ( 6-10 or 10-6) I think his best chance at becoming a good NFL QB is going on a team like the 49ers or Houston Texans, two teams that have staff who can develop a good QB and dont need to throw him into the fire immediately and can really give him a solid 2 or 3 years to become the next starter.
I only received 1 Board....I guess eveyone is confident they will make their pick. Remember, I asked everyone to forward their boards to all of these GMs: BakerMaker MBGreen Magilla Guerilla WW85 Mr Electric
After GH picks there will be a slight delay in pick for 624, I have his pick but he'll be back by 12 so ill give em some time to get back. Love that the draft is moving again guys.
I have a question for Harpua, now mind you I like McCarthy, great heart, tackler, and really never quits, but do you have any concern with his weight only being about 235?
Concerns? Maybe a little. A bit more concerend with his overall speed. In a 43 at smaller linebacker who can range sideline to sideline can flourish. Have we all forgoten Jonathan Vilma already? He's 230 soaking wet, yet anchors the middle for the Saints. McCarthy has abit of size on Vilma, but lacks the acceleration and speed Vilma has. If he becomes a flim hound that can tell where a play is going before the snap it would be great for him. Playing behind a line with disruptive guys like McCoy and Clayborn will help as well. I see him as a good player and hopefully a good fit for the Bucs.
But will his former injuries be a problem in that process? I mean if he somehow re injures his shoulder trying to gain 15-20 lbs he could be sidelined for awhile, shoulder injuries for a LB are no joke.
