    How so?

He's not really a better hitter than any of them. He's probably a better fielder than only Murphy. Also, he has the largest contract of the group, he is surly, and is symbolic of the clueless pathetic Omar Minaya era.

It was a great move for the Mets to dump Castillo.

I know it's only the Spring so I'm taking this with a grain of salt, but Young and Capuano have looked solid so far.

    SP: Pelfrey
    Dickey
    Niese
    Young
    Capuano

    RP: Carrasco
    Beato?
    Byrdak (L)
    Bucholtz
    Parnell
    Isringhausen
    K-Rod
What you guys think? Only one lefty reliever, though. Got Gee and Mejia sitting in AAA and, of course, Johan on the DL.

This isn't football. The Mets don't save money by letting him go.

He is easily a better hitter than all of them. I'm not sure what you expect from the others, but I can't see any of them hitting over .270. At least Castillo will give you average.

This isn't football, you say? Oh, okay.

The Mets have to pay him $6 million this year whether he was on the team or not- at least that's how I understand it.

You've been on this board for years now. You should know where I was going with the mention of Castillo's contract. I'm sick of overpaid veterans with a lack of desire. There is no point in having that type of player on this current Mets team.

With regular playing time I think the other guys would hit just as well as Castillo would have hit.

Interesting move to let go of Perez. Not sure it was the right call given the money they will have to eat from his contract.

The Mets have done pretty much everything a fan could ask for this offseason, there's finally some reason to be optimistic about the future of the franchise. Amazing that there are posters in here that think Castillo and Perez should've been kept.

I'm liking this offseason better than last year. Getting rid of Castillo AND Perez was more than what I thought the Mets would do this winter.

Not that I'm complaining about him being gone or anything, but as a Mets fan I've been trained to now expect him to hit .330 for the Phillies. You all know it's coming. lol.

It's not his batting average, he is a singles hitter so no big deal.

It's his lack of range at second that will hurt the Phillies. The guy has killed us in the field for two years.

Oh...I'm not really expecting him to do that, it's just as a Mets fan (especially the last couple of years) I'm worn down. Castillo is definitely going to have a tough time on that fast moving infield.
Just as soon as Ollie Perez signs with the Braves and gets his fastball back to 93 and goes 12-5 with a 3.50 ERA....then you KNOW we're fucked. lol.

Do you think he was throwing 83 just to get out of NY. Part of me feels that way the rest of me thinks he just sucks. Just think at least we only gave Ollie 36mil Atlanta gave Lowe 65 mil, they got mor out of him but wow did they pay more at the same time.

hahaha....no, Perez is done. All I was saying is as a Mets fan, I'm conditioned to expect the worst.

As long as if he all of a sudden rediscovers how to throw he doesn't do it with a team in the division. Go to Oakland or Seattle and get your mojo back.

Adding in the Castillo dump, it's time for all of the people claiming that the Wilpons would be too cheap to try to make the team better this year to eat some crow. By making these two moves they guarantee an increase in the payroll of at least 1 or 2 million dollars (depending on who replaces them).
