Took me a couple days to round this all up but Im proud of what it is. I have some fallers and some reachs similar to the bit of the choas that insued last season. I will be making a 2nd rounder soon but not for maybe a week. Hope you'll like it! 1. Panthers- Cam Newton, QB, Aurburn Im becoming a bigger believer in this pick as the days get closer to the draft, with Bowers hurt and the Depth at DT I think the Panthers look to get more ticket sales and get a ray of hope in the organization. 2. Broncos - Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn I like Dareus better personally, this kind of reminds me of the Suh and McCoy thing last year. Two promising DT's that can be flip flopped at whos the #1 DT. I think the Broncos just plain fall in love with his overall ability and production from last year and pick him. 3. Bills - Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama The Bills get there consatlation prize and its a good one, Dareus will help the run D for years to come and IMO get adjust from 3-4 DE to 4-3 DT better then Fairley may be able to if the Bills were to switch as rumored. 4. Bengals - AJ Green, WR, Georgia The Bengals get many trade offers at this pick I believe but decide not to pass up on one of the most remarkable and impressive WR's since Calvin Johnson. Carson may have to think twice about leaving. 5. Cardinals - Blaine Gabbert, QB, Mizzou Cardinals don’t want to lose Fitzgerald, they have a rough time picking between Peterson or Gabbert but ultimately go with the QB they believe to be there next franchise player. If they want to stay relevant they may need this pick. 6 Browns - DaQuan Bowers, DE, Clemson Bowers falls strictly because of his injured knee and certain teams "backing off of him". At #6 the Browns just cannot skip on him and his talent at being a solid 3-4 or 4-3 DE. They are a 3-4 D right now but there have been rumors as well of a shake up by Jauron ,there new D coordinator, moving to a 4-3. Bowers can leave them comfortable with staying or switching there D. Also he’s the BPA so they would have zero to complain about. 7. 49ers - Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU The 49ers come away with the possible STEAL of the draft with Peterson. Patrick could be debated as the #1 prospect in this draft. The 49ers need secondary help and Peterson is the perfect start. Him opposite of Nate Clements would instantly make the 49ers secondary brutal for any NFL QB. 8. Titans - Robert Quinn, DE, UNC This is by far one of the harder picks to mock with these players above taken. With their most pressing need gone (QB) the Titans could most likely trade back in this spot. But instead decide to take the BPA and take Quinn. If Quinn had played a full season he could arguably be picked within the top 3 picks in this draft. His talent is overwhelming and the Titans can’t help but to double dip at the 4-3 DE position 2 years in a row and create a combo of Morgan + Quinn that could help there Dline for years. 9. Cowboys – Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska Cowboys jump for joy as there man falls to them at #9. With the up and coming cut of Newman the Cowboys NEED a CB more than ever. Prince is the 2nd best CB in this draft and could bring a huge physical presence to there secondary. 10. Redskins – Julio Jones, WR, Alabama Redskins fans all over know this team needs a new face at the WR position. Santa Moss is solid but Jones can come in and obtain the #1 WR role with ease. Julio impressed at the combine with amazing workouts along with sub 4.4 speed. Don’t forget he is the best run blocking WR in this draft. Whoever the next QB in Washington DC is he’ll sure as hell be happy with the receiving core of this team. 11. Texans – Brandon Harris, CB, Miami The Texans are forced to reach here and address their secondary woes. Ranking 32nd in the league against the pass the Texans need a strong, fluid CB, with #1 CB written all over him. Harris is not considered a top 15 pick per say but with the Texans needing a CB more than any other position they must make a smart move and take the best DB available. 12. Vikings – Von Miller, OLB, Texas A&M Millers versatility at the LB position is the reason why the Vikes take him here at 12. He’s arguably the best LB prospect in this draft and BPA at this spot. Von hasn’t played much 4-3 since his early days at A&M but many scouts suggest he can do just fine in a 4-3 scheme and isn’t a liability in pass coverage. 13. Lions – Tyron Smith, USC, OT It’s funny to see the Lions at #13 and not somewhere in the top 5 but there team all around is improving greatly, a few more pieces and they could turn into a possible WC team in 2-3 years. OT IMO is a big need for the Lions, as well they need a 4-3 OLB or CB but neither (stock wise)is available at 13, so the Lions choose to get young at Tackle that can finally protect their franchise QB. Im not sure if Smith would come in and play LT and Backus move to RT but either way this choice improves there line to keep Stafford safe to pass to Pettigrew and Megatron. 14. Rams – Cameron Jordan, DE/DT, Cal The Rams are slim at the 4-3 DT position and Fred Robbins isn’t exactly cutting it. Now the Rams could go 4-3 DE like Kerrigan or Smith but Cam Jordan is an overachieving prospect with huge potential. Reminds me alot of Alualu. Ranking 17th against the run and 19th against the pass its apparent St. Louis needs more pressure and run stuffing, Cam can do that and more. Steve Spagnuolo should be a big advocate for this pick. 15. Dolphins – Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama The lock of the draft in my mind. Ingram is the top RB recruit in this draft and the Dolphins RB have injury woes out the door. Ingram should fill in nicely as a power/shifty back for Miami and hopefully gets tackled for a loss every snap he plays against the Jets. 16. Jaguars – Aldon Smith, DE, Mizzou The Jags get a scary player in Aldon Smith, an absolute rentless kid with a nack at getting to the QB. With injury woes at DE but an up and coming DT core, Smith should fill in just right for the Jags at 16. No complaints by their fans either.
17. Patriots – JJ Watt, DE, Wisconsin No way in hell BB passes a prospect with the caliber of play that Watt has. This could even be considered a fall for the great prospect that Watt is. He impressed tremendously at the combine and made himself known to the league as a top 20 pick. The Pats need a 3-4 DE to compliment Wilfork on the DLine. Watt is that and much more. 18. Chargers – Gabe Carimi, OT, Wisconsin Two back to back Wisconsin boys taken and rightly so. Solder and Castanzo are still on the board here but Carimi is a better fit at RT and can do what the Chargers need the most, run blocking. Coming into the league Carimi should be a consistent run blocker and solid pass blocker as well. This isn’t the most popular pick as many look to address the D but RT is becoming a concern in SD and they need to start establishing the run game. 19. Giants - Martez Wilson, ILB, Illinois The Giants biggest need in this draft is ILB. They need an overpowering linebacker who can stop the run and create pressure in blitzing situations. Wilson is a beast at the 4-3 ILB and can even transition to OLB if need be. Giants fans should be happy with this one. 20. Buccaneers - Ryan Kerrigan, DE, Purdue The Bucs pick up the falling player in this draft in Kerrigan and get a great DE to create pressure on the QB alongside Gerald McCoy. With the Bucs ranking 30th in sacks and 28th against the run Kerrigan brings another physical presence to their DLine and will get to the QB consistently for the next 10 years if coached correctly. 21. Chiefs – Derek Sherrod, OT, Mississippi State Chiefs get there future RT and possible LT in the making with Sherrod at 21. Sherrod is a massive 6’6 300+Lb Tackle that can come into the organization and pass protect as well as run block for J Charles. Solder is on the board here as well but Sherrod can fit a bit better at the RT position and later on could fill in at LT if Albert is seen better as a guard for the Chiefs. 22. Colts - Muhammad Wilkerson, DT, Temple Ranking 25th in the league against the run the Colts need to address their Dline immediately. Their team has been riddled with injured players over the years and a beast like Wilkerson with the savage motor, run stuffing ability, consistency, and health could put a spark into a rather ageing Defense. Wilk is a bit raw and Liuget could be the choice here as well but his impressive combine numbers and surprising agility makes Wilkerson the next Indianapolis Colt. 23. Eagles – Jimmy Smith, CB, Colorado Eagles here have to reach a bit for their biggest need but getting a consistent CB alongside Sameul is essential to this teams championship potential in the next few seasons. Smith impressed at the combine posting a 4.46 40, 36 in vert., and a 10'3" broad jump. He has major maturity issues and sometimes struggles in press man to man but the Eagles will look to change that and make him a solid Corner. 24. Saints – Anthony Castanzo, OT, Boston College Castanzo could be considered the best Tackle in this draft, OLineman are hard to predict this year but I think this is the perfect fit for Castanzo and right around the draft position he could be taken at. Saints get a solid RT who can play immediately coming into the NFL and later on could switch to LT if the Saints need him to. I honestly think he can play any position beside Center on the line and should become a great asset to an explosive Offense. 25. Seahawks – Stephen Paea, DT, Oregon State Surprising many Paea falls to 25. He’s consider a 15-20 pick but goes to the Seahawks over injury concerns, Paea IMO is a top 15 talent but many teams may pass up on him to get a player that is healthy , as simple as that. For his minor amount of workouts he did impress many with his extreme amount of strength. 4-3 DT is the best fit for Paea and with questions about Brandon Mebane status of coming back the Hawks look to improve their dismal DLine production. 26. Ravens – Leonard Hankerson, WR, The U The Ravens have a legit #1 in Boldin but other than that their next solid passing option is Todd Heap. Mason is getting old as well has TJ and Stallworth , Hankerson can come into the Ravens organization and provide a solid pass catching receiver that has impressed at the Senior Bowl and impressed countless scouts. Don’t forget the Ravens love those Miami players. 27. Falcons – Justin Houston, DE, Georgia Houston falls in this draft because of teams addressing needs over simple wants. Justin is an exceptional pass rushing DE that can help the Faclons in the sack department as well as replace J Abraham when he’s done in a few years. The Georgia native has great value here at 27 and could be picked before this because of his impressive combine but I think his stock lays around here or a bit earlier and makes a 4-3 or 3-4 team very happy. 28. Patriots – Akeem Ayers, OLB, UCLA The Pats need to address the pass rush department in this draft especially in the first, I think BB considers Brooks Reed very much but in the end picks the more versatile LB that can get to the QB as well as fit in any scheme the Pats want him to be in. 29. Bears - Nate Solder, OT, Colorado The Bears need serious help on the offensive line and Solder can become an instant starter at either tackle positions. They need to protect their QB and did a bad job at it last year. Solder should come in an make an impact on the line for Chicago. 30. Jets – Brooks Reed, OLB, Arizona Now this may be my Jets bias but I think Reed drops to our pick and we get our pass rushing beast that we’ve needed for the past 5 years. Reed is rentless and has an extremely high motor. He just plain never stops trying to make a tackle, sack, or impact a play. Rex should already be in love with this kid and I believe as long as the Pats don’t take him, he’ll be playing for the Jets. 31. Steelers – Mike Pouncey, OG, Florida Another vastly popular pick for the Steelers but it has solid reasoning behind it. Besides the Pouncey Pouncey connection the Steelers are in dire need of an OLine man. Especially Guard. Mike had a bit of a down year at Florida playing center but he will most likely be playing Guard in the NFL. Pouncey is considered a early to mid second rounder but the Steelers reach for him for three reasons, his skills , their need, and his brother. 32. Packers – Corey Liuget, DE, Illinois The SB champs get stronger of the DLine here with the powerhouse Liuget. The now Illinois Allum provides solid run stopping ability along with being a great pocket collapser. Liuget could play all over the line, preferably at LDE but can play RDE and a bit of Nose if needed. Liuget drops a bit here and again could go earlier but I believe he’s a solid fit at 32 in a rather wild draft. Worked REALLY hard on this draft over the past couple days with some spare time. Feedback would really be awesome! Thanks in advance all, JTJ
I like it for the most part, although I'm not sure about the Cardinals pick....if the idea is to keep Fitz around would Blaine Gabbert really change his mind? I think they'd love to get one of those defensive guys still hanging around and then bring in someone like McNabb or Kolb
My reasoning is Fitz is there franchise player and when Kurt was around he was as happy as ever but with the installment of the mediocre QB in Arizona Fitz wants to tail it out of there while he's still young (27). Now I could see maybe McNabb being signed but he's not as attractive as Gabbert could be. He's a solid accurate quarterback who has a gun of an arm, Im not too high on him but if they want to keep the best player they have, I think they need to show him there committing to winning again. Also, Kolb could be an option but would most likely require a 1st or MAYBE their 2nd and since they are rebuilding a bit I dont think they would do it. ( I could see the Seahawks doing that trade with #25 pick if no player they want is there) I think Gabbert gives their team hope in the long run and with the solid D depth in this draft, I think they could risk it.
I know you take some shit here every once in a while, but this mock is a very good effort. I like Dareus a little better than Fairley. I've also heard rumors about a shoulder problem with Fairley. Gabbert was an interesting pick for the Cards. If I was a 49er fan...I'd be thrilled getting PP. Aldon Smith to the Jax....not too sure. I love Wilson to the Giants. IMO, Ravens need to address CB. I could see the Pats drafting Reed just ahead of the Jets. Ayers and Reed should be available in late rd 1...although different type players.
Appreciate the comments greatly WW, this shit took a hell of alota time. I like Dareus better then Fairley as well but I think hype along with his numbers from last year entice the Broncos way to much and ultimately take him. Gabbert to the Cards I think should happen for the most part, they have an okay team but I just dont think a defensive player could come in and make the impact Gabbert could, Im not too hyped over him but with slim pickings at QB I think they go with him. Unless they want to lose Fitz or trade for Kolb with their 2nd. PP to the 49ers for me was hard to see, he may not drop that far but if he does he's at lock a 7. I think he drops no lower. Why not Smith to Jax? Do you think he wont play well as a 4-3 DE or he wont be picked at 16? Wilson to the Giants should be a lock, they need LB help and Wilson fits perfect in their scheme. Ravens need a CB but with the top 4 gone who do they go for? Williams? House? Brown? I think WR is the backup plan and Hankerson should be solid at #2 I think Ayers and Reed could be back and forth between the Jets and Pats. But Ayers is great in any scheme position at LB either in a 4-3 or 3-4 and I think BB likes that a bit more IMO.
Id say they go with Kaepernick, Locker, or Mallet in the 2nd. Im starting a 2nd Rounder today and should finish it by the end of the week. Thanks for the feedback man!
I could see them maybe taking Miller or A.Smith with that pick as well but I think they have a bigger concern over at CB and cant risk being basically shitted on on every passing play. Harris is a great reach for them, he can come in and be effective with Wade Phillips as the D Coordinator and over time develop into a solid #1 or above average #2. It reminds me of the Alualu pick for the Jags last year, more of a later round prospect picked high because of extreme need. It could play out well for Houston.
Yeah but using the Jets as a case and point, you can have a talented secondary, but without a pass rush your leaving your coverage in a vulnerable possition
The Texans in turn produced 30 sacks last season, which was ranked 23rd, so in your case point as they need pass rush I do agree. But I think the more troubling stat is giving up 267.5 yrds per game in the air, ranked 32nd. Thats just atrocious. They have been beaten up countless time on dinky passes to a WR or over the top and I just feel as though they need solid CB production to solve that problem. Im not arguing against your point because you are right in the sense that you need a pass rush to have better ability against the pass, but I feel as though CB is a dry and dismal place on the Texans depth chart and Im not sure how a 2nd round corner like lets say, Davon House or Curtis Brown could solve that. But I do see a second round OLB like Sheard, Reed, Acho, or Moch being able to rev up the pass rush in Houston.
