I agree. The idea that they are "partners" is bullshit. The owners, like them or not, invested to buy the team and take all the financial and legal liability. If the offer the owners put forth is really as it seems (we won't know until all the facts come out), the players union is proving that they were not negotiating in good faith, and planned to decertify all along. I say this because even if the offer wasn't exactly what they want, it should have been close enough to keep the discussion going.
the offer they gave the players today was more then fair and asking them to open there books is total nonsense fact is the players never had any intention of striking a deal and instead did nothing for a yr except try to drum up sympathy from fans all while planning to decertify
http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/22475988/27861345 Dear god, Im quoting Florio but find this tidbit fascinating. Free agency at midnight. How the hell would this be regulated?
i do my best to simply ignore you but it is quite obvious you have an axe to grind with me... grind away it doesnt bother me, you can post jibberish 25k times this year and it wont bother me one single little bit. just because you look at things with as much love and spirit as you do and often leave sense behind and think about what you want for the jets and then sculpt your thoughts around that... dont be mad at me for not having the same exuberance about everything jets related. you have become like nyjunc was with herm edwards, except you are like that with every single thing jets related. ................................. i did exactly the same thing deathstar, i decided a few years ago that i would not give these men who run the nfl and many of these men who play in the nfl my money. granted i am still indirectly doing it every time i watch a game, but i am happy to have not spent a single penny of my money on nfl games, apparel or anything else they get paid directly for other than my cable tv bill in a number of years.
There's just no way. Not on this planet. For a team to sign a free agent at 12:01, the owner would have to essentially tell all 31 other owners to fuck off, turning the NFL partnership into the wild west, and starting a free-for-all. Not to mention, law suits galore. The litigation between players and owners will be small potatoes compared to litigation between OWNERS and owners.
On the global issues, I don't see how. But, thinking wildly outside the box: On the issue of financial disclosure, the owners say they've disclosed everything and the players say they haven't. That might be a decent point for a limited binding arbitration. Except, I think that gets back to the issue of what constitutes "team revenue," which is more an owner-owner point, rather than an owner-players point. All just my wild guess, though. No better or worse than anyone else's.
I've always hated Florio but PFT is definitely the place to be for updates on all this stuff. P.S. Are people seriously taking the owners side in this??? They have the fastest growing most popular sport in the country. They have players who have to play this incredibly dangerous game for free until they are 21-22 years old, and then the average NFL player plays the game for just over 3 years. The players are what we tune in to watch. They earn the money they get paid. If anything it should be the players who are asking for more money based off the massive success of the NFL these past few years. And there are also people here who don't think the NFL should have to disclose their financial information if they are asking the players to take a pay cut based on their word teams are losing money?? How can you defend this position. If you're a player you're constantly seeing how huge the NFL is getting. Yea, the economy isn't great, but nothing looks better positioned to handle it right now than the NFL. Why would you be okay with taking less money when it only looks like the football is rapidly becoming bigger and bigger? From my point of view we have a bunch of greedy old white guys trying to squeeze every last ounce of cash out of the cash cow that is the NFL.
Just for the fun of it, what about the resigning of FA? say we give Holmes a deal at 12:15 that he is allowed to sign. Would that start an owner war as much as say San Fran offering Tone a big deal at 12:15? I get what you are saying, but if we are allowed to start resigning our guys at midnight tonight, I want tanny working his magic until he has everybody under wraps.
there both assholes but from every report ive seen the owners tried to get a deal done whereas the players never were serious and wanted to go to court all along
Can't wait until April 6th to hear the ruling. Actually, I guess it's the hearing that hopefully will lead to a ruling soon after.
My husband had a whacked out nyquil/crown royal dream Saturday night that I said "Enough of this shit!" and flew out and resolved the whole issue. And then at our weekly football parties was all snobby constantly reminding everyone, "You know you are only watching this now because of me, right?"
