I've never said the Middle LBs are a bad group, I should have clarified a weak group at the top few rounds. I've been a big fan of quite a few and famliar with these players. None are close to superstars, except Foster and maybe Wilson. Foster will probably play OLB in the NFL, depends on the team that drafts him. Good group, all have some warts...size, speed...good depth, like most positions in this draft.
Josh Bynes is a guy I really like too. I think he's got a good amount of talent, just needs to be coached up. Chris White and Akeem Dent as well.
I think Bynes and White look more like 3-4 only ILBs, Bynes because of his average cover skills and White because of his athletic limitations...
Wilson has one hell of a motor. Alex Wujciak should be a good mlb in the league. He doesn't get enough credit because he plays on such a shitty team but he is always around the ball making plays. He is a big big dude. I see him all the time on campus
Sure you can. 2007 was obviously a terrible draft because JaMarcus Russell was the first overall pick.
Of course you can, you can rate the draft any way you want. That's the point. Its a weak draft in the highest impact positions on the field QB, OT, RB and OLB.(imo) Suh was the highest graded DT prospect I've ever seen. Fairley is more Sed Ellis than Suh. You wont see another Suh for a looong time. I know people forget these things, but do you know why Rodgers sank in the draft? He came across as aloof and arrogant in the interview process. I read it and heard it a bunch of times. All these writers like to pretend they didn't write it, but it happened. TO ME 1996, 2000, 2003 and 2005 were not great draft years. They didn't look good going into it and didn't look that great afterward. Rodgers is an outlier.(and yes, I know we had our best year in 2000. But lets face it, we had 4 picks in round 1 and only one really had consistent career)
Mark Herzlich, Nick Bellore, Alex Wujciak, Martez Wilson, Mario Harvey, and Kelvin Sheppard. Mason Foster could probably play inside in the 3-4, but he should play in the 4-3 because of his range.
One other thing about the talent level. I can't see a way JJ Watt is around when we draft. I think he'll fly up the board(and Jees I can't see Belichek passing on him, he looks like a Patriot on the video i have seen). Tremendous hands, great football IQ and a leader.
Urlacher, Ray Ray, Patrick Willis if you lay down the law a few years consecutive yes. they can be. ppl would be on Jon Beason's jock if he wasnt in CAR
I'm still unimpressed with the talent level in this draft, a bunch of good DE's and DT and no depth at a bunch of positions.
The most unimpressive position in this draft is clearly RB besides really Ingram theres no other clear stout RB that is worthy of a sniff at the 1st round. Decent depth that can fill in nicely for a team that wants a RB committee but not much talent of a 1st string starter out there. But the only thing I can say with positivity is there will be PLENTY of sleepers in this draft, a good amount coming from the WR position and DB positions.
Looks like my original premise is right, weak draft. It does , however, play to our needs. If we have learned anything about Rex, he is obsessed with his last loss. His D-line was abused in the first half of the Steeler game. If Wilkerson or Taylor are gone, I have a feeling we trade back. I like Ayers more than most and give him an edge if we have to go OLB.
