another interesting selection E. had to go spend some time reading up on him, but from what I just spent doing some reading, and your writeup this guy just screams football player to me. He isn't that superb athlete that has numbers jump off a page at you (like Dantay Moch) but he just goes out and gets the job done. Can't argue with that type of selection. I have always been a fan of pure football players with an exceptional work ethic that don't quite have the elite measurables to make them a top tier pick. These are the guys that learn the game, never quit and fight until they reach their potential. here is NFL.com's scout's take on him, I particularly enjoy the weaknesses column Has the work ethic and intelligence to develop the skills required to play standing up. So his biggest weakness is his ability to play DE (which he wouldn't for us) and is slightly below average in his ability to play in space. I'll take that all day every day from a 4th round pick
The pick can definitly be considered a reach, but the guy does produce. What I like about him is that he has gotten it done his whole career, not just a one-year wonder. I just really think the 4th is a little too high for him. I have a feeling he will be available in the 5th.
I like Miller, he pursues the play like a LB and didn't look foolish dropping into coverage when ask(although still inexperienced). He stood out all day in the Liberty Bowl, played like the 2nd best player there. Again though, I didn't like seeing Marlon Brown, a WR, eating his lunch on a block...
Marlon Brown's almost like a small tight end. I agree though...a linebacker/end shouldn't get consistently blocked by a wideout no matter how big he is. I think Miller could have a difficult time with lengthly blockers, but his motor overrules getting taken out of a few plays - he's the kind of player that always finds a way to get the job done.
Selections after the third round are all over the place. I picked a player that fits our scheme and is a definite need. Before I even made Bruce Miller the choice, I understood it would be viewed as a bit of a reach...but I'd rather have a consistently good player over anything else. To me, this isn't a risky pick because Miller will be good at something in the NFL.
Really nice pick E.....Miller is a special player that is relentless. Great special team player, as you noted, he's a headhunter.
Hopefully that was just an isolated instance, I haven't watched Miller more than 3 games, so it could be. If not, he's got to get around those types of blockers before they can fully extend. He has a great motor, many DEs quit on the play once they pass the DL, but Miller keeps going after the ballcarrier. He runs pretty well for a DE too, very straightforward, not clanky that you'd expect from a DE(no missteps). I myself also thought of him as a later round prospect, but that's probably because I'm brainwashed by "the man", dig? When you read it a few times, it gets stuck in your head...
There are some decent teams in C USA and its not like they are a FCS team. He also had a good game against SEC opponent Georgia, although Georgia was pretty bad this year.
I think round 5 is going to be an offensive pick, just a feeling. E has been side note mentioning the idea that a halfback late in the draft wouldnt be too bad of an idea. Also the FO has been pegged as being particularly high on a late round h-back lately....
I don't plan on selecting a running back at all. Tomlinson is coming back, so we really don't have room on the roster for another tailback. The pick could be an offensive player though. I'm choosing between three prospects.
It's not him - he's a seventh rounder candidate though. I won't be able to post my write-up until this evening, so I'll just post the player's name for now: Aldrick Robinson, Wide Receiver, SMU
