I'm sitting here in the draft forum and everyone would agree that the first couple rounds are everyone's favorite. I personal really enjoy the later rounds a lot to, and I wonder how many people are educated or know about certain players that are projected to go in the later rounds. So.. I thought it would be a good idea to get a thread that talked about some of those prospects by the rounds they are projected to go in. I know about a lot of these kids that are in this draft, but I also am unfamilar with a lot too. I know a lot of your draft guru's on this board know about a lot of these kids, so talk them up, educate those that are looking to know about anyone that may be on the Jets radar, or who you feel might be a great fit for the Jets in these later rounds. Point us in the right direction, who are some prospects that we should familiarize ourselves with? I'm putting in guys that likely will not be around, but you never know. Also, looking at some second rounders wouldn't hurt, like I said, you never know. For me... Round 1: Ryan Kerrigan - LB - Purdue JJ Watt - DE - Wisconsin Justin Houston - LB - Georgia Muhammad Wilkerson -DE - Temple Akeem Ayers - LB - UCLA Tez Wilson - LB - Illinios Phil Taylor - DT - Baylor Cam Heyward - DE - Ohio state Aldon Smith - DE - Missouri Corey Liuget, DL, Illinois *Mr.E Contribution* Round 2: Christian Ballard - DE - Iowa Sam Acho - LB - Texas Allen Bailey - LB - Miami Brooks Reed - LB - Arizonia Jabal Sheard - LB - Pitt Quinton Carter - SS - Oklahoma DeAndre McDaniel - FS - Clemson Jarvis Jenkins - DE - Clemson Rahim Moore - FS - UCLA Marvin Austin, DL, North Carolina *Mr. E contribution* Christian Ballard, DL, Iowa *Mr. E contribution* Titus Young, WR, Boise State *Mr. E contribution* Round 3: Ahmad Black - FS - Florida Jerrell Powe - DT - Ole Miss Deunta Williams - FS - UNC Mason Foster - LB - Washington Brian Lainhart - FS - Kent State Cliff Matthews - LB - South Carolina Jurrel Casey - DT - USC Robert Sands - FS - West Virginia Sione Fua - DL - Stanford *Mr. E contribution* Jerrard Tarrant - S - Georgia Tech *Mr. E contribution* Randall Cobb - WR - Kentuck *Mr. E contribution* Round 4: Will Hill - FS - Florida Kendrick Ellis - DT - Hampton Ian Williams - DT - Notre Dame Steven Friday - LB - V.Tech Lawrence Guy - DE - Arizonia State Jaiquawn Jarrett - FS - Temple Austin Pettis - WR - Boise State *Mr. E contribution* Greg Salas - WR - Hawaii *Mr. E contribution* Andrew Jackson - OL - Fresno State *Mr. E contribution* Round 5: Tom Keiser - LB - Stanford Anthony Gray - DT - Southern Miss Marcus Gilchrist - FS - Clemson Terrell McClain - DT - South Florida Curt Porter - OT - Jacksonville Derek Hall - OT - Stanford Deunta Williams - S - North Carolina *Mr. E contribution* Delone Carter - RB - Syracuse *Mr. E contribution* Zack Pianalto - TE - North Carolina *Mr. E contribution* Mark Herzlich - LB - Boston College *Mr. E contribution* Eric Hagg - S - Nebraska *Mr. E contribution* Round 6: Lazarius Levingston - DE - LSU Brandon Bair - DE - Oregon Derek Newton - OT - Arkansas David Carter - DE - UCLA Jermale Hines - SS - Ohio State Greg Loyd - LB - Connecticut Jamel Hamler - WR -Fresno State *Mr. E contribution* Keith Williams - OL - Nebraska *Mr. E contribution* Nick Bellore - LB - Central Michigan *Mr. E contribution* Charles Clay - FB/TE - Tulsa *Mr. E contribution* Round 7: Ryan Donahue - P - Iowa Dom Decicco - SS - Pittsburgh David Gilreath, WR, Wisconsin *Mr. E contribution* Lee Smith, TE, Marshall *Mr. E contribution* Brian Rolle, ST LB, Ohio State *Mr. E contribution* Chris Culliver, DB, South Carolina *Mr. E contribution* Alex Wujciak, LB, Maryland *Mr. E contribution* I'm going to update this as new names get thrown out there. Thanks for the contribution. Looking forward to more intriguing prospects!
I like Casey Matthews.. I don't know what round he projects at though. My buddy doesn't think he would be a good fit in a 3-4, I disagree. How do you guys feel about this kid?
I'm a Sam Acho fan, and I think he doesn't get the recognition he deserves. He's a football player. Moore is a bubble 1st rounder. Trading down just makes so much sense for the Jets this year. Get me another 4th and get a 2nd rounder before 40 and they can find a damn good player. I don't mind watching Thursday without a Jets pick... fuck the NFL and their dumb 3 day draft bullshit. I want my weekend back. I'm making a thread about it.
DeAndre McDaniel won't go that high - he's probably a fourth or fifth round pick now. ...and in those rounds, I'd rather have a guy like Eric Hagg.
Is it bad that for once, I DON'T feel like hyping up Tez Wilson in depth? Great size, great speed, long arms/frame, well vested in the LB aspects, compared to Simeon Rice out of HS by Ron Zook, just needs to harness his dormant rush skills. In a nutshell... EDIT: And I think Alex Green(RB, Hawaii) will be one to watch in the 6-7th. A big back with very good initial explosion and also possesses great hands. Could be a true backup to Greene...
I'll do five for each round. First Round: Jabaal Sheard, DE/OLB, Pittsburgh Akeem Ayers, LB, UCLA Muhammed Wilkerson, DL, Temple Martez Wilson, LB, Illinois Corey Liuget, DL, Illinois Second Round (too bad we don't have a pick in this round): Rahim Moore, S, UCLA Marvin Austin, DL, North Carolina Christian Ballard, DL, Iowa Titus Young, WR, Boise State Brooks Reed, DE/OLB, Arizona Third Round: Robert Sands, S, West Virginia Sione Fua, DL, Stanford DeAndre McDaniel, S, Clemson Lawrence Guy, DL, Arizona State Randall Cobb, WR, Kentucky Fourth Round: Jerrard Tarrant, S, Georgia Tech Austin Pettis, WR, Boise State Sam Acho, DE/OLB, Texas Greg Salas, WR, Hawaii Andrew Jackson, OL, Fresno State Fifth Round: Deunta Williams, S, North Carolina Delone Carter, RB, Syracuse Zack Pianalto, TE, North Carolina Mark Herzlich, LB, Boston College Eric Hagg, S, Nebraska Sixth Round: Jamel Hamler, WR, Fresno State Keith Williams, OL, Nebraska Nick Bellore, LB, Central Michigan Charles Clay, FB/TE, Tulsa Lazarius Levingston, DE, LSU Seventh Round: David Gilreath, WR, Wisconsin Lee Smith, TE, Marshall Brian Rolle, ST LB, Ohio State Chris Culliver, DB, South Carolina Alex Wujciak, LB, Maryland
Yes. I have a feeling JJ Watt will be a top twelve selection. There was a very, very short period of time where Justin Houston was a possibility for us at 30. ...that time ended a while ago. Ryan Kerrigan could be around, but I'd take everyone I listed over him. He's a good player, but there's nothing special about him other than the fact that he tries hard. I have him rated as a mid-second rounder. Also, I'd never take a third round caliber nose tackle prospect in the first round.
Yeah. But I get why he did included the 2nd. Jets have to be prepared if they get involved in a trade scenario giving them a 2nd.
Denver's got two second rounders, 36 and 48. Problem is they need the same shit as we do. Maybe by the time we pick Belichick will have 6 more second round picks and can shave one off.
I'm drinking the Sam Acho koolaid pretty strong right now. I disagree wildly. Eric Hagg is a nice player, but we have Eric Hagg on the roster. Unless they'd keep him just to eventually step in for Jimmy Leonhard, he won't add much. I'd be all over DeAndre McDaniel in the middle rounds, kid's got monster potential with quality coaching, and has the dynamic skillset we don't have in the secondary. That said, I don't think they go Safety at all if Dwight Lowery is going to stay there.
There is a reason I put this thread together. I know a fair amount about College and the players in this draft, but I'm not as educated on this as some on this board. I'm wanting to know more. Thanks for your five per round though, nice contribution. I would love to hear about more. I don't know a lot about some of the prospects that are projected in the 5th - 7th rounds. Some I do, a lot I don't.
You and I have discussed DMC before. I think he'd be a nice fit in this scheme...it'd be a risky pick though. I have McDaniel rated a lot higher than Hagg, but if we're going to draft a safety, I'd rather take one later. Hagg can be a quarterback of a defense - an upgrade/replacement for Leonhard is an underrated need. McDaniel has ridiculous ball skills, but he's a stupid, selfish player. He gets caught out of position way too much - something tells me it has little to do with coaching too.
