Oh true yeah I wouldn't mind having Jenk back for cheap.

Agreed on Snyder, he's terrible. Jerry Jones too. I would say Al Davis is still the worst... crazy mutha

edit - yeah I think I remember him having one ill tackle for a loss last season. Might have been against the Pats? lol

Makes you wonder if he'd go tho. It wouldn't bother me if he did but he's made plenty of money in his career and he loves rex. I think he may be like jason taylor where he wants to play but only for rex

Here's the article I found, but considering the guy referred to "Brian Leonhard" breaking his fibula, I'm not too sure how reliable it is:

Jets offer deal to NT Jenkins, talk with S Sanders

FLORHAM PARK, NJ — Amidst all the haze of uncertainty surrounding the NFL, the Jets — as well a few other teams – are continuing in their off-season plans in preparation for the 2011 season. After parting ways with nose tackle Kris Jenkins on Monday, the Jets have offered an one-year deal with their injury-proned run stopper, according to Kristian Dyer of the New York Metro. The deal is reportedly worth $2.5 million and is heavily laced with incentives. A ten-year veteran, Jenkins missed the entire 2010 season after going down with a knee injury in the first quarter of the first game of the season. It was the same injury (torn ACL) to the same knee that made him miss the second half of last season as well, just 11 months apart. Jenkins is entering the fourth year of a five-year deal and would have made $6.4 million in 2011.

The loss and uncertain return of Brian Leonhard has the Jets keeping their options open at free safety. They met with Bob Sanders on Wednesday. (JetsInsider.com Photo).

General Manager Mike Tannenbaum told reporters that they still want to see what Jenkins can do in a Rex Ryan defense. “We haven’t made a decision. It would be very intriguing to see what he can do over a 16-week season and play under Rex. Unfortunately, that hasn’t happened yet, but we will take a long look at his situation.”

On Monday, Jenkins was one of four players the Jets cut. In addition, they also parted ways in outside linebackers Jason Taylor and Vernon Gholston as well as right tackle Damien Woody. It is rumored that if Taylor would return in 2011 to play football, he’d prefer it to be with Rex Ryan and the Jets.

“I told Rex Wednesday, if I’m going to play, I want to play with the Jets. I had a fantastic time up there. If they’ll have me, I think I would enjoy doing it again,” Taylor said.

But the Jets and Tannenbaum haven’t just been attending to the players on their current roster, they also have reached out to former Defensive Player of the Year, safety Bob Sanders. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Wednesday morning that free-agent safety Bob Sanders will visit the Jets. The former Indianapolis Colts star previously met with the Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars. Sanders has played only nine games the past three seasons, Sanders could be explosive to opposing offense’s in Ryan’s swarming defensive schemes. Much like Jenkins, Sanders missed the entire 2010 season after tearing his biceps on the Colt’s first defensive series.

Sanders could dispel Brian Leonhard (bahahaha) of his free safety duties, after he broke his tibia in a freak collision with Patrick Turner during practice before their Week 13 match-up with the New England Patriots. The loss of Leonhard was easy to see, as the Jets struggled to fill his missing void. When healthy, Sanders is considered to be the type of playmaker Troy Polamalu or Ed Reed is.

I think its worse, considering that this is supposed to be a "jets insider" the guy should know the players on the team, especially when he is only talking about 5 players in the article. At least with madden, they are talking about 53 different players on 32 different teams, plus FA's. So thats close to 2000 names that have to be said, so its understandable that a couple will be wrong. Just sucks its a starter for the NYJ.

I hate seeing Woody go but not the rest. Gholston should have been waived last year! Jenks' injuries are too big a risk; Taylor didn't do enough although I'll never forget the safety vs. P'burgh. Also, Hartsock is replaceable. Weatherford, too; he shit it late in the season.

i expect the Jets to offer Jenkins something around 1 year for 2.5 mil, as an above report indicates.

His dead money on the cap is 1.8 mil if not signed.
My question is, if he is resigned, does that dead money go away like a restructure?
I think it does, but am not positive.

    1) Expect an eventual Jenkins contract to be VERY incentive based... as in, if you get injured for the 3rd straight year vet min is all you're going to see.

    2) Brian Leonhard? Hahaha! Also, isn't he our SS and not FS?

I've always viewed Jerry Jones as worst than Snyder & Davis. Snyder & Davis teams suck. However, Jerry Jones basically threw away SB rings to appease his ego when he chased out Jimmy Johnson.

    Gonna sneak this here.

Guess i'll use last years CBA rules for example.

Are any of our players (well Brad Smith) trade-able for draft picks this year?

Shitty thing to do to woody but I understand, I had a feeling he was about to start to hit the decline.

Dead money doesn't go away. Its the bonuses paid that were spread out over the life of a contract. Once a FA, the remaining money has to accelerate and become dead. Even if we sign Jenks to a one year deal, the entire $1.8 mil will go against this years cap barring new CBA rules.

It wasn't a shitty thing to do. Its a common practice in the NFL.

According to this article, dead money for 2011 will be washed. I'm skeptical as to whether it's correct but this guy does have some connections and is generally very reliable. If he is correct it's great news for the Jets considering how much money they just saved. I'm waiting for incarseratedbob to confirm.

I edited that post because I was wrong. I misunderstood something Jason from nyjetscap.com told me. He and Basset from thejetsblog.com are both of the belief that 2011 dead money is being washed if a player is released.

No one else has reported this to my knowledge, and even nyjetscap guy says he's not 100% sure it's true. He wouldn't publish it if he didn't have good reason to believe it though, he says the same about everything on his site.
