Measurables : Ricardo Lockette Height: 6'2" Weight: 211 lbs. Arm Length: 33 3/4 in. Hand Size: 9 3/4 in. College: Fort Valley St. Conference: Southern Position: WR Strengths: Lockette is big with long arms. Finds soft spots in zone coverage and possesses strong hands and the body control to make grabs away from his frame. Good leaper that high points the ball well. Flashes a bit of a wiggle in the open field and is a strong runner after the catch. Weaknesses: Does not show explosion off the line or out of his breaks. Will not consistently stretch the field at the next level. Extremely raw route runner that is too high in transition and lacks the ability to set up defenders with head fakes. Will not always find the ball in the air. http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/ricardo-lockette?id=2495306#tabs:tab-analysis Seems interesting and scouts certainly liked him, keep an eye out for Lockette in the draft.
But Collie has good hands and benefits from Peyton Manning. Lockette to me is a little too raw. The Raiders will draft him.
He' not going to be a steal and MAYBE someone in rd 7 gives him a shot. Had only approx 250 yards receiving and mainly used in kick returns. He's a track star that plays football.....the NFL doesn't have enough roster space for wannabes.
No clue how anyone could ever think to compare him to Austin Collie, in any possible way. Opposite skills, opposite production in college, opposite combine impact.
What's the point of pointing out the fact you can't teach speed when he's looked at as a WR that can't stretch the field or has a slow step off the ball.. but then again I have no idea about this kid.. truthfully his ears kind of worry me
He kind of reminds me of a poor mans Chaz Schilens then a Austin Collie. A kid with not alot of college production ( Chaz obviously had more) but fast as hell has height and impressed at the combine. Btw this is an NFL.com article, not my general opinion or assessment. Just thought he could be interesting in later rounds (6-7) with that kind of speed and body type.
Side note, big laugh at thinking this kid is a slot receiver. Brandt bashed his hands, and he bombed the 3 cone drill. Real slot guys like Jeff Maehl, Dane Sanzenbacher, Greg Salas, and Vincent Brown all put up great times despite less than outstanding 40s. Oh, and he's "extremely raw" as a route runner, that never helps.
During the combine it was suggested for him to become a Slot Wr or Kick/Punt returner, don't ask me why this is just what was said.
I'm trying to make this thread straight off of what the NFL combine and it's website has been hyping the kid as. I haven't given my opinion once besides comparing his game to Chaz Schillens. This was taken off the website and the slot Wr / returner suggestion off television.
You named the thread and posted the info, didn't you? To me, that means you're suggesting Ricardo Lockette is a slot receiver. Like others said before me, he's fast...but that's it. Slot guys need to be experienced route runners. Lockette's only real value is as a special teamer.
I tried not to leave anything in particular out, while watching his overview on TV it was suggested. I said these were not my opinions just what was stated at NFL.com and their show. He's not the best fit for the Slot in terms of what you look for at that 3 Wr position, he was just stated as a project WR who scouts said if could be taught better route running skills and improve his hands more along with beating his CB off the line would be his suggested position. Again didn't want to leave out what was said about the kid, thinking every detail would be important to the thread.
The Chaz Schilens comparison isn't accurate either. Chaz Schilens has everything you look for in a Number 1 Wr. He has size, speed, runs great routes and very good hands. What makes Chaz Schilens not a Number 1 Wr type is his inability to stay healthy. You can't be very productive sitting on the sidelines. The Raiders will always take a flyer on a Wr like this but the raiders don't need any more inexperience Wr's.(Draft anymore) What they are in need of is a proven veteran WR to take some of the pressure off their very young Wr corp and not rely on Chaz schilens. (They have to plan without him and anything they get from him is gravy at this point) IF Chaz Schilens could ever stay healthy, there Wr corp would be set. (If a big word)
