Will Rex/Tanny bring him back for one last Hoorah? _______ Jason Taylor used to despise the New York Jets and their fans. Now he doesn't want to say goodbye. The former star pass rusher, released Tuesday after one season with the Jets, told reporters at a golf event Wednesday in South Florida that he wants to play at least one more season -- but only for the Jets. Taylor, 36, shared that sentiment in a conversation Tuesday with coach Rex Ryan. "I want to play in New York, oh, for sure," Taylor said in an interview aired on 760 ESPN Radio. "I told Rex this yesterday: If I'm going to play, I want to play with the Jets." Taylor had one year remaining on his contract, but he was due to make $2.25 million and was cut loose in a move that surprised no one, not even Taylor. The NFL's active career sack leader didn't put up eye-popping numbers last season, producing only five sacks as a pass-rushing specialist. When the season ended with the loss to the Steelers in the AFC championship, Taylor was emotional, sounding as if he had played his last game. Some in the Jets' organization suspect he will retire and pursue a career in show business, but Taylor said "he's looking to play another year or two maybe." The chances of returning to the Jets appear slim. They're trying to get younger in the front seven, targeting defensive end and outside linebacker in the draft. Nevertheless, Taylor is hoping for another shot. "I had a fantastic time up there," said Taylor, a longtime nemesis of the Jets during his heyday with the Dolphins. "[It's] a great team, a good, young team with a good, young quarterback continuing to grow up and becoming more and more of a pro quarterback. That's great to see. "I had a great time, but came up a little short. It's not easy to repeat three years in a row in the AFC championship, but if they'll have me, I'd enjoy doing it again." Taylor dismissed any notion of a return to the Dolphins, who made no effort to re-sign him last year when he was a free agent. "I don't think there's a chance in the world that they're going to call," he said. "We didn't communicate very well when I played there. That ship may have sailed, and that's OK." For the money we paid him last season I think he had a decent season. If he wants to come back on the cheap by all means come on back. He was productive last season.

He wasn't good for us this year as a pass rusher but I want him to win a SB w/ the Jets, it would be the ultimate insult for Miami so I'd be happy to have him back next year.
Nah, not me. I only signed up for one year of that douche. What I'd really like is for the Jets to win it all the year after he leaves, because they don't want him back. Miami fans already had plenty of insult this year.
I'd be more than happy to keep him on, on min salary. We are most likely going to draft a OLB / DE and having him around could prove to be invaluable.
Hilarious Agreed x 2. Was he great? No. Was he helpful? Yes. I also think his abilities would help any younger players the team might add to the roster. If LT can help Greene's abilities to hold on to passes, there's no reason to think JT can't help coach up or teach techniques to an up and comer. For a minimum salary, incentive laden, there's no harm in bringing him back.
Would we rather have Jason Taylor back for like 1.3 million bucks or something like that.. or Bryan Thomas (who can be cut and save 3.7 million)? Personally I'd rather save the 2 million + and have Taylor back to be the 3rd OLB on the depth chart. One of these guys will definitely be gone, and one will probably be back as a sort of stop-gap and to help bring along the rookie OLB we are undoubtedly going to bring in. Ideally, I'd like to see the Jets use their first pick on an OLB and then a project kind of player later in the draft. Taylor would be a good tutor.. but I think his days as a Jet are probably over.

if he plays for the minimum, no reason not to bring him back. This year he really would be a rotational OLB, and he would get spotty, minimum PT strictly in pass rushing scenarios. The young OLB that we draft, will get priority on the field in pass rush downs, and will get to be tutored by Taylor a guy with 130+ sacks in his career who is a former DPOY who has a good shot at the HOF. for the min, the tutoring alone is probably worth it. We have seen what a good tutor can do to somebody who is willing to learn (ala Mark and Brunell). It's worth it IMO to bring him into camp, and if he gets beaten out by the younger guys, we cut him with no loss to us.
