Marcus Stroud signs with the Patriots

Although NFL offseason activity is about to come to a screeching halt, at the moment free agents are free to sign with any team. And the New England Patriots just picked up one such free agent.

Former Bills and Jaguars defensive tackle Marcus Stroud reached an agreement on a two-year deal with the Patriots, Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting.

Stroud played 15 games for the Bills last season, starting 14 and recording three sacks. The Bills cut him two weeks ago.

A three-time Pro Bowler, Stroud will turn 33 in June.

They did well last year bringing in Gerard Warren. I wouldn't be surprised to see Stroud do well in NE.

Marcus Stroud, released by the Buffalo Bills last month, evidently will stay in the AFC East.

The former Pro Bowl defensive lineman signed a two-year deal with the New England Patriots, ESPN reported Tuesday.

Though the Patriots haven't officially announced the move, Stroud did accept congratulations from former teammates on Twitter.

Stroud, who's 6-foot-6 and 310 pounds, didn't fit the Bills' long-term plans after struggling in their switch from a 4-3 scheme to a 3-4 last season.

Stroud, 32, was a first-round draft pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2001. He will enter his 11th season in the NFL and has been to three Pro Bowls. He has 29.5 sacks and 39 passes defensed in his career.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Do the jets need to pick up people before thursday??

Seems like a pretty desperate move by the Pats, seeing as they have all of those draft picks.

Why this in the Jets forum?

Moving past that lack of English... the Pats are not the Jets, therefore this news goes in what section?

    Come on.

I know you can do it!

very surprised that the pats brought in another aging vet with nothing left in the tank. Did they not learn anything from Fred Taylor and torry holt and joey galloway and the several other failed experiments recently?
