If he is re-signed it would be at a minimum w/o big dollars invested in him so I'd be ok w/ that.

I wouldn't have much of a problem with it either, because he was a decent utility player at 3-4 DE. But most people will never get over the 6th overall disappointment until he's gone.

I'm not sure what the vet minimum is but I don't see how that would make much sense. According to nyjetscap.com that move only saved us $466,666 in cap space. Re-signing him would probably cost us more in cap space than 466,666.

Vet minimum is(or at least was under the old CBA) $325,000 for this coming league year. So like, $135,000 saved, IF he agrees to vet min.

Woody's injury I am sure was a factor in deciding to let him go, but I wonder how much of one. By that I mean I wonder how confident the FO is that between Hunter and Ducasse they do not have to go outside to get a starting RT. I don't know myself.

Cutting Taylor - I wonder if this makes it more likely than before that the Jets use a high pick on a pass rushing OLB. And of course in that regard Thomas's name did not ocme up. We shall see...

Don't think he has the ability to manage a gym...although I'd pay him $10/hour to scrub the bathrooms

I hope Jenkins comes back out of all of these guys. Jets paid this dude alot of $ for him to not play, and he should come back on the low.

I pray Vagina Gholston is gone for good.

Anyone that can't get motivated by earning a $9 million bonus by simply recording ONE sack, forcing a fumble OR recovering a fumble OVER THE COURSE OF 3 YEARS should just go walk into oncoming traffic

This could actually save us almost 20MM in cap space according to an article by NYJETSCAP.com. I'm posting it in another thread ...

I don't think that's right at all. The vet minimum goes up every year you're in the league, so for a three year vet its like 470k.

    In 2008, $295k
    In 2009, $310k

    In 2010, $325k

    In 2011, $340k

    In 2012, $355k

The NFL Players Union and the NFL owner's usually construct a new "minimum salary" deal every 4 or 5 years.

*** These numbers are accurate but are for players with zero years experience, i.e. rookies. The amounts go up with player experience, topping out at $845,000 in 2009 for players with 10 or more years experience. Also, unlike some or much of the money in the very high dollar contracts of the top players, none of this money is guaranteed. You have to play to get it.

Here's the whole chart through 2010:

    Credited Seasons 2008 2009 2010

    0 $295,000 $310,000 $325,000

    1 $370,000 $385,000 $400,000

    2 $445,000 $460,000 $475,000

    3 $520,000 $535,000 $550,000

    4-6 $605,000 $620,000 $635,000

    7-9 $730,000 $745,000 $760,000

    10+ $830,000 $845,000 $860,000

So I was wrong, depends on who replaces Gholston.

Wow pure class there from a true pro. Woody was a guy that I think we all knew had this day coming when Hunter played extremely well for him. Now I wonder what the status of Hunter is because I thought he was an FA ? I'd have to say at this point the idea of him starting is something I like a lot more then Vlad.

The others... nothing major. We essentially haven't had Jenkins for 2 years so now we actually don't have his salary. My guess is they will try and bring him back in a reduced role as well as reduced incentive laden contract.

Taylor...could be brought back as well. I think he played good enough to warrant another year.

Ghost... good riddance. Now the questions is who will take the next shot on this waste of a roster spot?

24 million freed up as well.... the question is does this already include the 10 million for Harris or is the 10 million for Harris going to come out of the 24 million?

I think we expected it could happen w/ Woody after this year when Ducasse was drafted. That was the plan, who knows if he is ready? I hope we can bring him back for one more year.

Taylor did very little for us but at least he was cheap(in NFL terms).

I'd like jenkins back but obviously we can't put big $ into him since he hasn't been able to stay healthy.

    From PFT:

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Gholston just had to record one sack or forced fumble or fumble recovery to reach the escalator. So if Gholston had one lucky bounce of the ball go his way, his salary in 2011 would have ballooned $9 million, forcing the Jets to cut him.

Gholston wound up achieving his status as an unrestricted free agent the old fashioned way. Guys that don’t record a sack or forced fumble in three seasons don’t tend to stick around.

I feel bad for him. Cuz he now has to make $7 an hour at Burger King, if hired. The poor kid was unlucky, cuz nobody let him through to the QB. Every once in a while, OL should let a first rounder slip by on purpose just so he can have a highlight year. Every body hated Ghost I think. The guy is a class act. So what if he made $30 mils in 3 years. He's still human.

We saved more in the long run. It is just this year that we may actually end up paying an extra 100 grand for him if resigned for vet minimum.
