These are low hanging fruit - obvious moves that are good for the organization. Too bad that we have to bid farewell to Big Wood a he was an excellent player for the Jets and a great person.

Not sure if my numbers are accurate, but i see around 10.6 mil in cap hit savings with these cuts. Welcome any clarity on these numbers.

    4.6 mil for Jenks
    3.24 mil for Woody
    2.275 for Taylor
    466k for f'n Gholston

Out of all of them, Jenkins most likely to be re-signed.
His dead cap money is 1.8 mil, so offering him at least that much doesn't cost us anything really (if i'm looking at this correctly)..

omg, the colts don't want to be left behind...

    http://www.coltclique.com/topic/13946-vernon-gholston/

    ...and the bengals:

    And from New Orleans...

    Raiders...
    ---

    And finally, the Browns.
Considering how high they think of him, one would think we could trade him to them for a midround pick. After all I kind of like trading with the browns...

Obviously Gholston was a big sack of shit for us, but it's not totally unrealistic to think he can contribute a little bit if given a shot as a 4-3 DE for one of those teams.

I mean, I certainly wouldn't bet on it, that's for sure. But in 3 years in the league he basically had 3 different positions, none of which were his position in college when he actually had success. Then again.... nahhhhh

I definitely think Jenkins could be brought back for like 2 million bucks or so. I'd love for Woody to come back as well, but I think they're gonna move on to a Wayne Hunter/ Ducasse situation at RT where the best man will play. Taylor and Gholston I think have a 0% chance combined to be back.

Damn.. lots of posts on twitter from the players talking to Woody.. sad to see Big Wood cut.

    DUSTINKELLER81
@damienwoody gonna miss you out there man..I hope something gets worked out and you are back for this 2011-12 run!!!

    damienwoody
    @DUSTINKELLER81 we'll see homie...u know I love it here

    OfficialBraylon
@damienwoody I heard the news fam, I was hoping to see both of us back in green but there's still time to make it happen! #IStillHaveFaith

    Also, Cimini on Jenkins:

    RichCimini
Talked to Kris Jenkins. No bitterness toward #Jets. Knew it was coming. No. 1 priority is rehabbing knee. Will finish rehab and make dec on whether to play or retire. Jenkins said "doesn't do my any good if I'm in a wheelchair in 10 yrs." Pay cut never offered.

All expected, all proper moves. Now down to $100 million on the roster, which could leave about $40 million to work with if the cap sticks close to projections. I don't think this will be the end of the veteran cuts, but the others won't come until after the CBA. This sends a clear signal to our FAs that we're trying to resign them.

Still hoping we get an Edwards extension in the next few days.

I'd love to wrap up one or both of our receivers asap, but the reality is that the Jets won't be signing anybody before a new CBA is reached probably.

When the CBA is reached, I think the first order of business will be to sign Harris long-term so that his $10 million number this year is reduced, and then Tanny will move quickly to sign Holmes and then Edwards.

The reality is Edwards is the only player that CAN be signed before the end of the league year, and should have been. The fact that they're making these cuts and not announcing a deal for BE is a disappointment.

When it's time to go...you let them go.Shame about Jenkins, cause he was a beast. But sitting on the bench doesn't work. Will miss Woody, a complete pro.
Won't really miss Taylor, he was only a stop gap. But big time Hurrah for that useless #8 pick.

If the season plays out and draft time comes up, there are a bunch of great D prospects out there to fill some needs. The backups on the O line will be fine as starters.....just try to keep Holmes and Edwards. (Need Edwards on the roster b/c I won a #17 jersey at Montana's Jet bar and it and Mangold are the only current ones I own.....)

A shame to see Jenkins and Woody gone. Maybe Taylor too. But good riddance Gholston!

Nothing surprising, I would expect jenkins back at a redcued rate and I hope we can get Woody back for one more year.

I think a lot of Jets fans are going to be mad when Gholston is re-signed by the Jets. I bet he's the most likely candidate.
