Our assistant head coach recruited of 2 of my favorite players in this draft. Trust me, Callahan may have Tanny's and Rex's ears when it comes to both of these players. I was extremely impressed with Roy Helu's workout. Big RB thats fast and runs with a meanstreak. Smart kid that has a smile on his face all the time and loves football. Had over 300 yards vs Mizzou. If we don't have LT...Helu could be an option to team with Greene and McK. We've spoke about Eric Hagg and I still have him in my avatar as a good luck charm. Could be that ballhawk centerfield safety we desperately need. Guys think Nebraska come draft day!!!!
I really like all three Samoan backs in this year's class, but after today, Roy Helu is probably out of the picture. He's got excellent hands and it's obvious that he's got some speed after running in the 4.4s. Mark Sanchez's former roommate Stanley Havili isn't really an option either because of John Conner. Nevada's Vai Taua would be a nice selection late though. ...back to the Nebraska prospects: I'm hoping Hagg stays somewhat under the rader so the Jets can grab him in the mid-rounds. DeJon Gomes is one of my favorite sleepers at safety. We also need to keep an eye on those Husker offensive linemen: OGs Keith Williams and Ricky Henry were a Callahan recruits. Now that Ducasse is moving to tackle, we have a hole at guard. They could be a solid late-round selections for depth. It worked out with Slauson. Both of these kids are very good run blockers. Niles Paul is also a kid we should keep an eye on, especially with Brad Smith likely gone. He's a heck of a special teamer.
I wouldn't be upset if Paul became a Jet anytime after the fourth round. He's got great ability in the return game and he's dangerous after the catch.
Had Helu in the mock I posted here... guess I was a little optimistic (6th round) There were some questions about his physical abilities but I think he's answered them today. There are 9 Nebraska players attending the combine. That 8 1/2 inch hand measurement scares the hell out of me. The ST ability is no question a big plus. I 'm looking for a player like Sanzenbacher, a tough over the middle sure handed slot receiver. A player not getting much attention, except by Kiper (he loves him) is Cecil Shorts, extremely productive small school player. I've seen footage of Shorts on ONN(Ohio News network)...man among boys....incredible talent. Good calls on Henry and Williams.
I'd take Dane Sanzenbacher over Niles Paul in a heartbeat, but Paul definitely has some value in the later rounds. Someone will probably draft him because of his size - he's built like a running back.
If Sanzebacker got drafted, the Chebret Syndrome fans would riot in the streets like Detroit after they win a ring.
I liked the way Sanzenbacher looked in the combine. He looked confident, was catching the ball with his hands (unlike a lot of receivers during drills) and he, along with Salas, made some QB's look good by catching some poor passes.
