I haven't watched any College FB other than PSU, and a few Auburn games, so I'm no expert, but I'm interested in this guy. He was just on the radio, and they spoke about his incredible man cover skills. He only let up 11 passes in the last two seasons when he was in man coverage. That's unreal. He's tall and well built-- If he runs under 4.5 he's going to be highly sought after. If we let Cro Walk, I wouldn't mind picking this guy up. Yeah, I know we need front 7, but this isn't our only draft pick. Not to mention, we will have free agency to fill holes as well. This guy seems like he would fit our system well, and I wouldn't be opposed to letting him challenge Wilson/Coleman for the #2 CB spot. Anyone know anything more on this guy?
They'd have to spend their #1 pick to get him, and that would be a crazy waste of a pick. He might turn out pretty good, but they'd be giving up on Wilson after exactly one season, and throwing more money at what's already a very expensive position.
I don't know much about the guy, but I hardly think Kyle Wilson, Lowry or Coleman is reason to shy away from anyone in this draft. This doesn't mean they are "Giving Up" on Wilson. Shit, we traded a high pick for Cro last year, and still drafted Wilson in the first to be our Nickel. As for "throwing more money at what's already a very expensive position." that's flawed logic. If we need more talent at CB, we should look into aquiring more talent at that position. We can't just say, we've spent enough at CB, so those guys are just going to have to do. Not to mention, the only player in the entire secondary who has a big contract is Revis. The other 10 or so guys are not big hits. Anyone know anything more about this fellow?
If you draft a cornerback two straight years in Rd 1, it absolutely means you're giving up on the previous pick. There's no way to argue that, you're drafting a guy to take his supposed job in the starting lineup, whether it's this year or soon after. They traded a pick for Cro because Kyle was a Rookie, and Cro was basically a one year rental. And throwing 1st round money at corner means there's one non-need addressed and countless others still to be addressed. If you spend that very valuable pick on a corner, then they'll need to spend money in FA to get decent players at other spots.
I can't see the Jets investing another 1st round pick on a CB, even with Cromartie probably leaving. From a fiscal standpoint it makes no sense. The Jets invested a 1st Round pick last year and a 2nd Round pick this year at CB.....no way we use a 1st round pick this year. Revis struggled in his 1st year...people have a short memory. What helped Revis was getting valuable playing experience. McCourty had a rough first few games, but the Pats stuck with him, they had no choice. The Jets had other options to replace a struggling Wilson...fair or unfair, that's the way it was. Wilson really hasn't been given the opportunity to gain experience and show off his athletic ability. Drafting another CB in Rd 1 could hurt Wilson's psyche and prevent the team from investing in other key postions...OLB, DE or even a Safety. Jimmy Smith is gaining a lot of attention due to his size/speed ratio. Smith is a big CB that can run pretty well and make plays. Smith is good, but he' not a finished product and will struggle , like Wilson in his 1st year.
