Getting Wilson out of the nickel role and into the #2 CB role will do him some good. He'll be able to use the sideline to his advantage more.
I could not be more in favor of this potential goings-on. I admit I am not a fan of Cro, but more to the point, the tandem of Holmes and Edwards... this time for a full 16 (18?) games... would only help sustain Sanchez's development. Has Edwards finally shed his loose-hands reputation? This past season indicates as much, IMO. Sadly... the CBA-related uncertainty is definitely tempering my enthusiasm for this coming fall... I imagine many others must feel the same. :finssuck:
I'd like to believe that Edwards loves being a Jet but I'm nervous about how he'll perform if he's resigned. His play improved this season in a contract year.. I worry he might coast if he gets a new deal.
He said something about playing like a man possessed next year, as he was watching the Superbowl and wishing he was in it. He's also said a bunch of times how thankful he is to be in NY and out of his "last situation" in Cleveland. Also whenever he's on the sidelines I usually see him right next to Rex, getting involved. It sure seems like his soul is in this team.
So what do we do if Wilson is not the man and does his best Lito? Then what? Having 2 corners that can play man on man, is the key to beating the Colts and Pats. Without the $ to replace Cro, and # 2 pick andd the need for DL and LB, what are we gonna do? I would keep Cro and let Edwards walk. And I am a fan of Edwards.
If they are planning on letting Cro test free agency, that doesn't necessarily mean they don't plan on re-signing him.
If people are worried about our coverage with Wilson replacing Cro I would rather use Cro's money to get a safety who is good in coverage.
I am sorry but if it comes down to money, I would go after Sidney Rice(he would be my first option), T.O. or Randy Moss and then use the left over money for ASO. The Jets would be much better off with one of those wideouts and ASO instead of CRO/Edwards. Can you imagine how good this D would be with ASO/Revis :breakdance:
You mean to play CB? I don't understand how upgrading safety eliminates concerns about starting Wilson at cb.
Hes said this countless times over the season via Twitter, and also how much hes enjoying being a Jet and playing for Rex, don't they all say that . There have been times last season where I've had the vein in my neck popping out with his constant interference calls. But overall I'd welcome him back
No I think Wilson will be a great corner which is why I want Cro gone. Im saying I would rather get rid of Cro and get a coverage safety. We dont need 3 cbs to play 2 positions as much as we need a safety who is good in coverage.
Based on what? His draft position? I had hopes for this guy, but so far he hasn't even shown that he can be a mediocre CB.
Compare the end of the season to the beginning. Hes come on alot. Still not the stud we all thought we were getting, but hes learning, and has Revis to learn from. I'm still not ready to Gholston him just yet.
He has played well when we plays on the outside. He played great shutting down Johnson completely in the Buffalo game. Its not easy getting to the field when you have Revis and Cromartie in front of you. Also his problem was never staying with his man it was just finding the ball. Im not saying hes going to be Revis but he will be better then most.
Wilson so far is at worst a disappointment and potential bust, at best a player who has potential but has not shown much. While it is more likely he will show some level of improvement in the coming year, how much is far from certain, and he may show none. What is clear is at no time so far has he shown anything close to an average level of ability for a starting CB. What concerned me most was when the Jets had to play him, not only did he get burned but he looked like he was not getting any better. The CS certainly did not let him play his way out of it, and this may have reflected the perception that more bad experiences would have further undermined his confidence. It happens. If they threw him in there this coming year, you have to wonder if the same thing, albeit at a higher level of play going in, most likely, would happen again. The best thing for Wilson most likely is to let him develop slowly, playing the nickel, learning as he goes along, and maybe if he shows enough improvement he can start in 12. By opening day this year? Not likely.
He got passed by Coleman, than by Lowrey, and then by Cole on the depth chart. He was at best the team's sixth corner by the end of the season.
i get what you're saying... i think, and this was mentioned by another poster, that was due more to his inability to get his head around. now to be clear, that's purely my opinion. To go on even further with my opinion, i think he's better in coverage than coleman and lowrey, they're better at playing the nfl's game though - in regards to d-backs and PI calls. edit for clarification, "better in coverage" meaning in the reciever's pocket. sadly that translated into PI calls.... which is also a part of coverage, so yeah, my point sounds counterintuitive. i guess i'm saying once he learns that aspect, he's better than coleman and lowrey.
Look, he may end up being very good, and he has some talent, but there's just nothing in his body of work in games last year that shows improvement or shows that he's close to ready to be a number two corner, and while we can't see what he does at practice, the fact that the coaches kept demoting him is at best neutral and at worst a negative sign about how he was performing at practice.
