Like I said, it's an ideal situation for him. I just can't see him being, as WW adeptly put it, common sense BPA when we pick.
He did say LB so I included Scott and Harris. I think OLB and NT/DE are pretty equal as far as need is concerned. I'd rather go DL early and take my chances on an OLB in the third round. Not saying the Jets will strike gold late but there's comfort in seeing that guys like Wake and Harrison are UDFAs. Ultimately, I hope the team goes BPA (defensively) at 30 or trades down.
Disagree if you want but the Jets LB's are a very good unit. You can't have the second best defense in the NFL unless your LB's are good. http://espn.go.com/nfl/statistics/team/_/stat/defense/position/defense
Really? That's your reasoning? Our ILBs are great. Our OLBs struggle, and we're likely cutting one of our starters and a backup at the position. We get very little pass rush from the outside. How exactly can you say 1 proven starter who struggled in 2010 makes a "set" OLB corps? Oh right, by judging the defense as a hole. I notice your argument doesn't apply to S or DL.
Everyone hopes the team goes BPA defensively at 30 or trades down. NT isn't the same need as OLB since we currently have a starter at NT, whereas we're going to be down to Pace at OLB. Still, NT could be the pick at 30 and wouldn't be a terrible one. We obviously need depth, and someone who will be able to start down the line. You can't pull a couple of UDFAs out and say that proves that it's ok to pass on a solid OLB early. You can do that with any position in the league.
Pace is more then capable of being the starter and getting after the QB. He has proven it with a good Dline. Thomas can surely be upgraded, but he is obviously capable as well. Our Dline has a lot of flaws, and is a very important facet to establishing a consistent pass rush. One guy isn't going to change that without some upgrades first. I'm blaming our Dline for the lack of a pass rush. As surprising as Devito is, he isn't a starter, and Pouha played very stout but I rarely seen him open up lanes or push the pocket. Those two things are very important for a pass rush. When Jenkins was in the line up, I am willing to bet our OLB's were more productive and had better position on the RB and QB throughout the game/season. Our secondary was fantastic because we had pressure that actually worked, and our secondary wasn't even as good then. There is a big reason for that, I don't care what anyone says. Now, a game changing pass rusher would be fantastic and I agree, we need one, but I strongly feel if our Dline doesn't get upgraded, it wont matter as much. We will still have a lack luster pass rush without an upgrade to this Dline.
Yea, I understand. I personally feel that the chances of landing a great OLB in the third round is higher than the chances of landing a great DL in the third round. I'm of the train of thought that pass-rushers can be found later on in the draft while dominant DL/NT are few(er) and far(ther) between. Obviously, it's all a crap shoot but I'd rather stake my strongest pick in the defensive line and take my chance at OLB in the third round. Granted, this all depends on what happens in Free Agency (assuming CBA goes through). I think Tanny and Rex will make a play at some LB.
That's because you have zero understanding of the Jets and should read and learn. The pass rush is the issue. The OLBs are now 30. It's time to find a replacement and a 3rd down specialist. Spend some time lurking in the jets forum and you'll get a clue.
Mmm.... Rahim Moore hey? Well I wonder who I've had this discussion with... someone who prefers the kid from Clemson... (although I'll admit I followed that choice with some retard comments). Nice to know I'm not totally moronic (aka the pick has some internal logic)! And Taylor? But but but... I thought we had the best NT in the biz... (I like Pouha, but who needs to understand this already has). OH and in the mean time numbers have shown that DeVito the over-achiever who shouldn't be the starter is one of the best 3-4 DEs in the biz vs the run. That said (I love revenge) atm I wouldn't like the Moore pick (pass rush > FS) and Taylor has to "prove" (you can't really call workouts proof) he can be an upgrade over Pouha... so I disagree with the picks. Considering the values int the draft 3-4 DE or 3-4 OLB in rd 1 looks like the obvious choice...
