I don't think it's that obvious. We were fine without Holmes the first four games of the season. Also, Cotchery and Keller were barely used at times last season.

Glad to see the front office making the right choice. Wilson was brought in here for a reason. Cro was a one year fix.

If we lose him, we get a compensatory pick?

That's where you'd miss Cro the most.

You get a pass rush, and Wilson steps up as the Inside Corner...Teams are going to chuck it deep on Cro's side, and that's where his skills make him look good.

His "bad" skills far outweigh the "good" when you consider the kind of money he'll be looking for.

Aside from the opinions expressed here to the contrary, and imo most problematic is that the FO believes that signing both Edwards and Holmes is an either or choice with signing Cromartie - they can of course sign all three - the reason you say the bolded part is because despite that article that is probably what will happen.

The only thing that would change it is if some other team offers Cro outrageous money, then all bets are off, of course. But will the Jets in the end try and sign Cro? Of course they will. The one thing you can be certain of is that they will not forego that attempt and proceed through this off season comfortable with and getting great nights of sleep dreaming of Wilson starting at #2 cb on opening day. THAT is not happening.

Speaking of the obvious, it's obvious to me that players can ask for all the money in the world. What the market is will dictate what he actually gets, with the Jets or elsewhere.

If he is not ready, than I am not sure why they drafted him and are going to use a roster spot on him. 1st round picks should not be projects - they should be guy who should be able to contribute as early as year 1 (with the exception of qb's), and start in year 2. If they cant do that, you messed up on the pick.

But, I happen to agree with you and think he was just a bad pick and that the Jets plan is to replace Cro with NA.

It just might be that the guy they wanted was taken a few picks before they picked and they settled for Wilson when they really wanted McCourty..

I was focusing on a substantive point. If you want to take it personally I am not sure what I can do about that.

As for any of the potential FA's the Jets might try and sign, what they want to fantasize about signing for is beside the point. They eventually will have to decide to take from among whatever offers and options they actually have. Either that or they won't sign with anyone. To talk about what Cro wants to get paid is really not relevant.

    Signed,
    Captain Obvious

You are not bright. Wilson was not drafted to become a #1 or #2 instantly. That is why we had Cro. He learned alot this year, he got up to NFL gamespeed and he played against the best in the world. He'll be contributing alot more this coming season.

As long as he gets a decent contract and has at least a decent year next year and for some reason compensatory picks aren't eliminated in the new CBA, I'm 98% sure we'd get a compensatory pick.

    Not until 2012 though.

to add to this, the maximum compensatory pick allowed under the current CBA is a 3rd round pick. And the majority of picks are 4th - 7th rounders. It's rare to see a team get a third round pick. Most years don't see any 3rd round compensatory picks. To get one the player has to leave your team get paid monster dollars and produce out of his mind, in addition to his prior team not signing any sort of suitable replacement for the prior team to acquire a 3rd round compensatory pick.

My best guess would be that Cro would net us a 5th round selection (if he walks for an average contract (5.5-6.0 mill per) and plays like he did this year. Best case scenario he nets us a 4th IMO

Not quite so rare, at least last year it wasn't. 3 teams got compensatory 3rd round picks, but it seemed for a combination of players lost:

    Atlanta Falcons
Lost: Michael Boley, Keith Brooking, Domonique Foxworth, Grady Jackson
    Signed: Mike Peterson, Brett Romberg
    Total compensatory picks: 2 (3rd round pick/98th overall, 5th round pick/165th overall)

    Cincinnati Bengals
Lost: Stacy Andrews, Ryan Fitzpatrick, T.J. Houshmandzadeh
    Signed: J.T. O'Sullivan
    Total compensatory picks: 2 (3rd round pick/96th overall, 4th round pick/131st overall)

    Tennessee Titans
Lost: Chris Carr, Albert Haynesworth, Brandon Jones, Eric King, Daniel Loper, Chris Simms
Signed: Jovan Haye, Mark Jones, Nate Washington
    Total compensatory picks: 3 (3rd round pick/97th overall, 6th round pick/207th overall, 7th round picks/241st overall)

Depending on how badly the CBA stuff jacks up free agency, we could see no comp picks or a record number of them in 2012.
