Cro was a #1 corner before he came here so I don't buy that excuse. Cro was a 2nd #1 corner and didn't play like it.

They brought him here and made the secondary changes to beat Indy- we beat Indy but no thanks to Cro who singlehandedly kept Indy in the game. he played well the rest of postseason and I'd be fine bringing him back but let's not pretend he was really good this year.

he would of been worth it if our front 7 could make a tackle in the AFCCG

Yes he singlehandedly kept indy in the game. He got burned for a deep TD like many DB's do when facing Peyton Manning. And while that play was mostly his fault, there are 2 others who didn't do there jobs.

The Colts offense put up 35, 30, 34, 31 and 23 in the 5 weeks prior to facing the Jets. Then they put up 16 inside there own dome. That's nearly half the average of the previous 5 games. Our secondary did a great job against them and Cromartie was a part of the reason.

Cro and Revis are the best CB tandem in the NFL.

Great and 10 of those 16 pts he was directly responsible for- the TD pass and then the huge 3rd and 8 to Garcon that set up the FG to make it 14-13.

We can go through every possteason year and you will seee how Indy's O scored much less in their playoff games.

Cromartie was terrible against Indy, he was excellent against NE and Pitt.

I think Cormartie is good but not great cornerback. But he's such an idiot.

And what happened? Revis held out and he spent all of TC outside, and didn't learn the nickel spot. Lowery gave this kid the #2 spot because he knew in case revis didn't return Wilson was better suited outside and was better than him.

    Heh. Junc is always wrong.

"Cro sucks! He gave up a pass to the best Qb in the league!"

"I thought he was the #1 cb in San Diego! That means he's not the #2 for the Jets!"

"I'll show you how he's not the best #2 in the league! Compare him to a #1 cb and former DPOY!"

"We gave up a second round pick to bring him here! That proves he's not the best #2 cb in the league!"

    Just wow.

I can't argue with this, but truth is:

*fill in the blank top 12-15 CB* and Revis are the best CB tandem in the NFL.

If we keep him, great. If he walks won't break my heart.

Totally agree with this. Cromartie did better than I expected him to do in the postseason, but the way people are putting him on a pedestal here, you'd think that he was capable of covering comeback routes and that he actually initiated contact with receivers when he was on the line instead of just reacting to the receivers and clothes-lining them when they were passing him. I've been going through games this year and just focusing on a few things, and one of those things is plays where Cro is on the LOS. The guy simply sucks within 5 yards.

I don't know if it was the couple of years that he played in TeddyC's Bend-But-Don't-Defend defense, but the guy leaves a ton to be desired in terms of physical play at the LOS, which is a staple of Rex's system for corners.

Cromartie won't be worth the money he's going to be looking for.

I'd probably be posting a lot of nonsense if I got ripped off promethazine and then took a few bong rips.

That's a pretty generalized statement and I don't see any fact backing it up. Here's a fact:

He's a shitty fit for our defensive scheme.

Generalized or not you didn't counter it. And your second statement you didn't back up your opinion, either.

The Jets often chose to play zone, but just as often employed man coverage on both sides. Season long, the opponents tended to attack the middle of the field and avoided attacking Revis and Cro. I don't have the metrics at my fingertips, but do recall seeing analyses season long last year showing him to be effective. Plus when Revis was out early in the season, he was the #1 cb. Who else on the team could have been that?

Your opinion about his fit in the Jets defensive scheme is not shared by the Jet organization. They went out and got him precisely because their scheme required a guy who could play man opposite Revis. So, are you saying the FO didn't understand the Jet defensive scheme, or were wrong in thinking he would fit? Are you saying the CS could not make him fit? Was there someone else on the roster who would have been a better fit? How come they were not played more often?

Talk about not backing up opinions...

I've already backed my opinion up in this thread and many others, and I haven't seen you make an intelligent argument to the contrary.

Probably whoever they would have traded for instead of Cromartie? Don't quote analyses unless you can actually provide them, if you're going to chide me for not backing up my arguments.

The Jets took a calculated risk by trading what turned out to be a 2nd round pick for this turd, and he has turned out to be exactly what he was in San Diego. And undisciplined, non-physical corner who relies far too much on his physical ability and not enough on technique or focus on the game. He also doesn't seem to care too much about picking the right cleats for the playing surface each week, because he's the first player to go sliding past his man on a double move or comeback route.

The CS is not infallible, or they would have been able to 'fix' Kerry Rhodes, who is not dissimilar to Cromartie in terms on great physical ability and total lack of focus.

Cro is good, not great not bad. If we're going to lose one of the big four, letting him be the one to go makes the most sender.

However, I wouldn't feel too great watching wilson line up opposite revis. That's the only reason for defending cro. He had a better year than wilson.

Of course wilson has potential and I'm not saying he's a bust. But if he takes one more year of development, then its an entire year of watching him and coleman get burned. I wouldn't feel safe until we brought in an even average corner to compete with kyle for the starter spot.

    tappin.. talkin..

I must have missed where you made the case that some other team's #2 cb is better than Cro. What you would consider an intelligent argument is rather hard to fathom here. It's not that complicated. What team has a better #2 cb?

THe Jets got Cro because Manning picked their secondary apart, avoiding Revis, in last year's Champ game. This year they beat the Colts and the Pats, and lost to Pitt because the front seven couldn't tackle. This year the Jets gave up three passing td's in the playoffs. Last year, five. Other than changing out Rhodes for Pool, a downgrade, imo, what was the other major change to the roster on the D? Oh yea, Leonhard was also out this year. Another downgrade.

The secondary played better despite Rhodes for Pool and Leonhard out. I think "this turd" was the main reason.

Wow, I've been looking for threads to post in all morning and I had this gem waiting for me the whole time? Sweet.

Of course it's hard for you to fathom here. Because you keep asking an unintelligent question, over and over. "What team has a better #2 cb?"

Is there some sort of governing criteria here, or should I just look at box stats and pick the better #2? This is what I'm talking about with you and generalizing. Are we talking about corners in a 3-4 defense? Tampa 2? 46?

Maybe the question you should be asking is 'What #2 corners in this league would be better for the Jets than Cromartie?'

Off the top of my head, I'd rather have:

    Leon Hall
    Courtland Finnegan
    Drayton Florence
    Sean Smith
and like junc said, whichever one of the guys in Green Bay that happens to be the 2nd CB on any given day.

Are they better athletes than Cromartie? Maybe Smith, not sure about the rest, but what they are is physical bump corners who throw receivers off their routes and disrupt the play. I think all five of those choices would be better fits for the Jets. But they aren't available to the Jets, so we were stuck it this marble-mouthed baby machine who wouldn't know what a 5 yard bump was if it chopped his dick off.

It's funny, they went out and got Cro, and he was so effective in man coverage that Rex scrapped his man coverage schemes against the 2 best QBs in the league and shifted zones against them. Your argument is weak, counselor.

Face it, if the Jets had 2 corners capable of manning the outside and rerouting receivers, capable of covering intermediate routes with consistency, if they had 2 outside corners who were willing to tackle outside runners, if they had 2 outside corners who could give the Jets' weak pass rush a chance to get there, we'd have had a much more successful defense in 2010.

If we bring him back, I'll be resigned to hoping against hope that the Jets can convince him that a clothesline is not an effective method of bumping his man, that it's not okay to be the last man there during a running play, that he should actually bring all of his cleats to the field before the game and test each one of them to determine which pair will make him look the least like Derek Jeter sliding into second, then I'll eat my crow happily.

But everyone that wanted him here when he was with San Diego was so sure that he's be a totally different player than he was for the Chargers, and all I see is the same guy playing for a far better coach.
