Jets' Kris Jenkins attempts another comeback after second straight knee injury i dunno if it is possible to bring this guy back, without reworking his current salary. he did have somewhat of a 'freak' accident week 1. his fall wasnt 'natural'.... but i feel like something would of happened anyway. i wish this bitch would of asked, if jenkins would accept vet min, or something.
There's no way in hell we should pay him 3.5 mil. He needs to restructure or be cut. I'll be shocked if he even makes it back onto the field for opening day.
I wouldn't be shocked if he made it back by opening day - I would be shocked if he did so under his current contract. I'd also be shocked if he lasted the full year. I'm very happy to think we don't NEED him, but it sure would be nice...
i rly hope he restructures to the vet minimum and gets a true chance to play a full season like he did in 2008
Kris will always be a fan favorite (especially for me) unfortunately Jets' money will be tight with FA signings and inking draft picks. I don't see Kris with the Jets. I doubt he wants to play for vet minimum either.
Restructured. Vet min plus incentives. Probably a bonus incentive for landing Cullen on the Jets as well.
He's definitely going to ahve to take a big paycut if he wants to come back. Hopefully the loyalty the Jets have showed him and his love for rex will bring him back cheap so if he does go down it doesn't hurt us as much as the last 2 years. Imagine a healthy Jenkins the last 2 years? i think we'd have our SB by now.
The only way he would last the whole season is if he only played about 1-2 plays per drive in all honesty.
Ellis is a no brainer over Jenkins. Jenkins should be a "nice to have" option if he's willing to take a low paycheck. Otherwise we don't need him. Love the guy, but we can't rely on him playing more than 6 plays in a season IMO.
Guys like Jenkins dont come around often. I hope he takes and incentive deal based on playing time because he still looked dominant last season (granted it was only preseason and less than one quarter in a reg season game) after already having multiple knee surgeries. Man how would the Jenkins brothers look lining up next to each other.
I always respect Jenkins no shit attitude when it comes to the NFL and its business, and he never sugar coats it. I love this guy. If he can be a part of the rotation, awesome. If not, then I wish him a healthy and happy life from here on out.
worded that wrong.was thinking the willingness of jenks to work a better deal will be used to negotiate with ellis and vice versa
His 2011 salary is $3.75 mil, plus bonuses that would balloon it to $5.5mil. The $3.5mil u mentioned seemed like a reasonable figure until I looked up nyjetscap.com. We owe Jenkins $1.8mil on the books for part of his guaranteed money/signing bonus. So no matter what that new deal would be, a vets minimum would mean close to $3mil for 2011 anyways (which is far less than his original cap charge of $6.4mil). Theres no way Jenks risk his knee and play for a mil. And there is no reason to believe that Mike would wanna risk paying $6.4mil in cap charge for Jenks for one game either incase he gets hurt. If Jenks is healthy and plays the entire season at a great level, his current cap charge is worth it. Its not as simple as people would think it is.
Yep, yep and one caveat - as far as last year was concerned, if there was one thing that could have been different that would have gotten the Jets into the SB after coming so close, I can't think of a better candidate than if Jenkins had been in the middle against Pitt. If he were there, I think it more likely than not the Jets would have made it.
It would be insanity to pay him more than the league minimum. I am sure he is motivated, but he has also been an injury-machine during his career and counting on him to play 16-20 games next year is foolish. If he gives the Jets 6, they should be thrilled, and everything beyond 6 should be considered a bonus. Hence, you dont pay him 3.5, but pay him the league minimum.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Well said. Not sure if Jenkins would work this hard to come back, then take a significant paycut if he didn't have to.
If the Jets wanted him or thought he could play, a contract can be done easy. Any contract Jenkins may get will be so incentive laiden that it would be the same was putting a sail, as big as a 747 wing, onto a dingy. If he plays, stays healthy and meets the conditions then he gets paid, if he doesn't he gets minimal compensation. This all depends on how good or valuable a fully rehabbed Jenkins can be or the value the Jets feel he is worth. This goes for any team that is in the market for him not just the Jets. Suffice to say his contract in its current form is dust.
