Seriously? They had been grooming Slauson but that doesn't mean they still thought Slauson was the number one LG candidate after they drafted Ducasse. Maybe they did, maybe they didn't, but we don't know and Fanecca doesn't know.
Obviously. Hey, off season optimism is a great thing. But as the off season progresses, and we get into camp and pre-season and Woody's gone, we'll see then how much Ryan is saying about who his RT is going to be. Right now, those here who assume Vlad is worthy of starting there are engaged in wishful thinking for the most part.
my point is that if you are either an OL or a QB and you arent a starter you don't see time unless its due to injury. So you have no way of proving to the fanbase that you developed over the course of the season. actually believe it or not.... clemens can say that he did that. The day Favre was brought in, Chad was cut, and KC was Favre's backup for the year. Not that its important to the argument, its just a fact.
Good call its D-IAA my fault I was thinking of something else. but my point still stands the gap is huge in talent and speed, and I would assume in the strength and conditioning programs of D-IAA to D-I much less to the NFL.
Aren't you tired of being wrong about this yet? I told you before the season started that it took the Jets' existing starters on the Oline half a season to be effective in Callahan's blocking schemes in 2008. A small school tackle with no zone blocking experience had no chance of being an effective starter in 2010. BTW, am I still a mindless fanboy for thinking that Slauson had a chance to start?
Creating competition for a position is one thing, but the Jets weren't going to come out and say that Vlad was the future at RT. Brandon Moore is an above average RG and he comes cheap, he's not going anywhere. They had an oft-injured RT well on the downside of his career, how is it not totally obvious that Ducasse was drafted for the strongside? Because the Jets didn't tell that to the press? The COULDN'T. Because Woody was still in house in a contending year. Ducasse was an obvious developmental pick.
I always thought Vlad was the next RT, I'm not sure why some are surprised by this. Its pretty obvious.
You think that University of Massachusetts is a "small school"? LOL. Vlad had zone blocking experience and was an all american based largely on raw talent. He needed time to work w/Callahan to develop NFL skills - the same is true for many many many good college OL.
Maybe. Still doesn't mean Vlad will be the starter. You only describe what might have been the thinking up to his being picked. Nothing about what has happened, and not happened, since.
They probably knew Slauson was ready, or they wouldn't of cut Faneca. You just don't tell a second year player "hey you won the job congrats."They made Slauson work his ass off for it in camp.
I meant it in terms of their football program. Unless you consider a team whose 1-AA division is comprised of such football powerhouses as William and Mary, Delaware, Rhode Island, Towson, James Madison and Maine to be a big football program. All offensive linemen that get to the college level have some zone blocking experience. Having some zone blocking experience and then going to a scheme like Callahan's is like saying you've ridden a motorcycle a few times, so you're qualified to ride a nitro-methane powered Hayabusa. That's the argument of an idiot.
I am not penciling him in at starter yet either, but that wasn't really my point. He was way too raw to have been anything more than token competition at LG for Slauson. Edit: By the way, there was plenty of 'nothing' happening for Slauson right up until the offseason of 2010. People were assuming that he was nothing but a depth player due to the lack of info about him coming from the team. We as fans do not have access to team progress reports on players, so all we can do is pretend we know the progress of Ducasse (or lack of progress) based on beat writer info and press conferences that are entertaining but really don't tell you much.
Living an hour away from Umass my whole life, I can tell you that there the football program is nearly nonexistent to anybody who isn't involved in the team. Umass is a huge school filled with mostly drunks, drug addicts, and floozies.
I wouldn't even think of it if the it wasn't more prevalent there than any other college I have been to. You can smoke (legals) and drink freely in the halls of the dorms, not even in your rooms! That place is a straight up party school, not to mention it has been rated in the top 10 in several statistical reports about partying and woman being taken advantage of while being wasted. But yes, UMASS Amherst is a decent school education wise. UMASS Lowell fails there. Guess I should mention I am going off what I remember about 6 years ago regarding the partying and I think Amherst put a huge crackdown around the campus, but the football program's presence has not improved at all since then.
I went to college in Northern California, we drank freely in the halls (better than driving home from the bars drunk).. Stats on women being wasted? Sounds like some BS lesbo propaganda to me.
They're all dykes too, pisses me off. Everytime I drive down Rte 9, I try to catch the glimpse of some hot lesbo crossing the street but no deal.. Sucks.
I knew this chick who was bulimic and went to Northeastern. That is all, but I'd like to add that I think the fact that she played soccer and everything she wore had Husky written on it did not help.
