I'm all for giving Vlad a shot at RT. If I remember right, he played both guard and tackle in college and is experienced in both roles. (at the college level)
I have been wondering the same thing ... Rex seemed upset when we let T. Jones go last year bc of how great of a locker room guy he was so this year with possibly loosing 4 or 5 good leaders I would begin to wonder what effect that will have. I do think LT will be back and I think Ellis will come back even though hes not going to get his money. but hopefully Sanchez Mangold Revis Harris and Scott can hold down the fort
This certainly seems like the logical "gamble" to take. You can't afford to have established star veterans at every position. You have to go with your young guys at some point, and this is that point - with Ducasse as a starter, we would put our trust in Tannenbaum's drafting and Callahan's coaching/talent evaluation, and I am more than willing to do that.
I should hope so. Those are pretty big numbers from those guys. Taylor has a ridiculous 10 Million rooster bonus or some shit so don't expect him back without a massive restructure. I remember reading about that a while back. Jenks will probably restructure to stay on. Tomlinson was 2 yrs @ $5.1M so I don't think they are gonna toss him away for $2 mil. He's still got it and his intangibles are higher than most.
No inside info here or anything bit I think it still gets done before the draft. Maybe not with enough time to really sign guys before draft day but I still think going into the draft there is a CBA in place. Talks wont move at all probably until march 4th so nothing I have heard thus far is unexpected. Then after that date the pressure is on and both sides will be forced to get it done somehow.
I fear the mental game with Vlad. I don't think he has the capability to grasp complex blitzing schemes coming at him and will put Sanchez in harms way. However, the Jets will continue to run the ball to the right side because he'll open plenty of lanes. I don't think his technique will be a problem under Callahan, I think his head will always be the problem. Hunter and Turner need to be retained. Teams would kill to have the depth the Jets do at OL, and at the beginning of the year I was pretty uncertain how Hunter would do if someone went down. He did a fine job stepping in for Woody, but isn't a long term solution.
I don't think that's fair. He looks dumb and he has an accent, so most people assume he's not smart. He's just new to the game and very inexperienced. That will change with time.
I could be wrong and the real reason is that he was truly uncomfortable inside and he was never going to be a heady player as a guard. His instincts are only suited for the tackle position. I wont judge him on his outside appearance. Most trench dudes have ugly mugs.
Haven't you seen the blind side. That kid was borderline retarded in that movie and now hes a successful NFL starting linemen.
if Ducasse routinely blazes a trail for Greene & McKnight on a consistent basis, learns to pass block and doesn't take penalties.....then will anybody care if he looks like a black Sloth Fratelli?....I know I won't.
He certainly does look a bit retarded. He did score a 13 on the Wonderlic test, with a 50 being a perfect score. Michael Vick scored an 11 and Marino scored a 16 so I think for an o-lineman that should suffice. Average score for a Offensive tackle – 26 and for a it's Guard – 23
I don't give a shit if he wins king ugly for 11 years in a row. My concern is with executing assignments and blocking the right player even when the defense is disguising the shit out of their blitz package. I don't think he has that capability as a guard and that's all have to go on. As a tackle, where he's more comfortable, he can have that ability. But I'm playing the wait and see approach because I don't think he was going to make it as a guard, even though I thought Slauson wasn't going to beat him out, because I honestly didn't know shit about Slauson.
We're all taking the wait and see approach with Ducasse. I have full confidence in Callahan molding his talent into a better than average RT. The guy has raw talent...which can't be taught. The mental game can be though, if the player is willing. I've read some other morons comparing Ducasse to Gholston already (I'm not gonna mention any names) in other threads......which is ridiculous. I believe Ducasse WANTS to play football and contribute to this team...which already puts him light years ahead of Gholston.
Besides Gholston was 6th overall not late 2nd round. Comparing the 2 is just silly. Gholston has also not produced for 3 years while Ducasse has bearly seen the field. Ducasse also does not make Gholston's money so its not like he is really setting the team back at all.
The Gholston comparisons sadly will never go away. Dopes won't grasp how Gholston is a special case in terms of a guy who is really strong but has zero mean streak and doesn't love football, its just something he does. We won't see another Gholston type bust for decades.
their draft position is totally irrelevant....i don't know why that's even an argument. I was more interested in the state of mind comparison regarding the game itself. Basically...who's willing to put the work in their craft to become a professional football player. I'm hoping Ducasse is....while we all know Gholston isn't.
