I"m not going down this road with you.

If we had a guy that sacked a QB 10-13 times these past 2 years things might've been much different.

Why not? it's pretty boring around here this early in the offseason.

I saw Howie play alot, he was a good to very good player. I never thought he was a HOFer. I think his visibility on FOX is a huge reason why he is in.

He had just 3 double digit sack seasons in his long career(career high was 13). We need help rushing the passer and someone like Howie would help but we have a bunch of decent pass rushers, we need a dynamic pass rusher.

True, during those prime years is just when I started really knowing football. At least enough to know what a blitz was and all that basic stuff. Having a guy like that who commands a double team would be huge for us.

Plus his persona during that time fits in with the Jets perfectly. I was talking prime Howie, not 6 sacks Howie.

I'm betting on 5 primetime games next year ...
San Diego, NE and Dallas @ Home.
Miami and Philly on the Road.

And of course, Superbowl XLVI :)

We all have to remember it is not just the best teams that get prime time games, it is also teams with large national fan bases. The Dolphins, even in their horrendous years always get a game or two because of a large national fan base. Same for Cowboys and the Raiders. So people saying "the phins suck, they aren't gonna be on" do not get the whole picture.

You also have to remember that all the networks work together on the game schedule, of course taking into account the logistical restraints (can't have too many games away/home in a row, west coast games must start at 4pm etc.). Do you guys think that it has been coincidence we have had 5 straight years of the Pats at home in week 1 or 2, and all have been on CBS?? No, it is a great national game to show early in the season that CBS desperately wants. FOX, CBS, NBC, and ESPN all get together to talk about these match-ups, no one unilaterally gets "first pick" when they set the schedule in April, there is way more conversation/brokering about it.

We will get likely two, maybe three prime time HOME games. 3-4 scheduled altogether.
To this end my prediction for prime time games is:

    DAL@Jets
    NWE@Jets
    Jets@OAK
    Jets@MIA

NYG and DAL games are both scheduled to be on FOX, which FOX is going to desperately want for high ratings as they are the only time Jets will be on FOX all season. (Superbowl is on NBC :)) I can 100% assure that BOTH of these will not be prime time games, and I feel Dallas seems like the better bet for a nationally televised audience, but I could see either NYG or DAL but certainly not both.

Oakland has a strong national fan base, didn't play half bad last year and could make for an entertaining game that CBS would be willing to give up. NWE@NYJ is too big of match-up NOT to have a prime time game, but I would be more then willing to bet it is at our place this time. Considering I also doubt that they will give us two divisional home games in prime time, I bet MIA will be on the road. KC is on the way up, but their prime time games will likely be divisional contests. Jacksonville and Denver are yawners, if they show up at all in prime time it will be a late season Thursday match up. (those suck) Buffalo might get a bone thrown their way for one prime time game, but I doubt it will be against us. WSH is not a game worth much of anything except for perhaps a CBS grab at the normally FOX based fan base, so I think that will stick with CBS. CBS will probably have to give up either the NWE or NYJ game against PHI, and I think that NWE v. PHI may be more prime time worthy. (two dueling offenses, all that garbage) and CBS will not give up a second game featuring the Eagles on CBS.
