Does anyone know much about Jon Baldwin out of Pitt. I watch a couple of videos of him, he appears to have fantatstic hands. It appeared from the limited video i watched that he has trouble adjusting to the ball. He will need to work on his route running (Holmes could be huge here). However, He is not afraid of contact, and would be huge in our offense. Questions on him? Does he block ok? He appeared faster on the field, right? (1 site I saw puts him in the high 4.4's) How is his character? team player? premadonna?
holy fuck...if we took a WR in the first round...with all that 1st round DL/LB talent available....I'd probably light some random people on fire.
If the receiver was AJ Green, it'd be another story...but that's never, ever going to happen. *To the OP: Cato's opinion on Baldwin is probably the best you're going to find on TGG.
As good as Baldwin looks, and he's a bubble 1st rounder right now, this is a defensive draft. The only thing the Jets would do is flank Cotch again and draft a true slot WR.
I know I'm no draft guru, but this QB class blows and I wouldn't draft anyone in the 1st round. I think it'll end up like 06. Go look at the QB class in 06. holy fucking shit is it terrible. And that class was supposed to be awesome. Awesome my dick - it can go fuck itself.
Here's the best I can do on Baldwin: Talent-wise, the guy is amazing. He has great hands, great size and great speed. If your are looking only at measurables, he's in the top 5 for this year's WR class. Here's the problem: he made every effort to look like a head case in his junior year. He argued with his coaches, gave up on routes and never bothered to try to build a rapport with QB Tino Sunseri. When asked about leaving, he mentioned Sunseri as a specific reason to the press. He did have one legit gripe about Pitt's OC Cignetti changing his role to a pure deep routes, I'll give him that. However, he chose to express that by bitching about it to the press and going less than 100% on any pass that wasn't directly in his hands. He's good, but immature. I'm convinced that he hurt himself by coming out a year early and it's going to show when people start talking to him. As of now, he's still expected to go somewhere in the first. The last I heard of it, St. Louis was taking a serious look at him as the earliest he could go. If he doesn't mature really quickly, I expext that interest to fall to somewhere in the second round at best by the time the combine interviews are over.
If one between Holmes and Edwards doesn't re-sign the sooner we might go WR is in rd 3... not rd 1. The only thing that may happen to convince Tanny to draft a WR in rd 1 is if both Edwards and Holmes leave... and I don't even consider it an option atm.
If we use the franchise tag on Harris and we can't reach a deal with neither of them before the start of FA... I don't even want to think about it.
I dont know how not reaching a deal before the start of FA mandates them leaving. Their market value could easily be what the Jets are offering, and one of them will sign with the Jets if that's the case, because this franchise is better than others.
I don't want Baldwin anywhere near this team if it happens in the first two days of the draft. Remember, we also had Hank Poteat on this team as well.
As much as I might like a prospect, one thing I'll almost never question is a fan of his team saying he wants no part of him for the Jets.
He'll play if he likes his QB. And his OC. And his routes. And his team is winning/within 7 points of the lead/ball is right in his hands.
