Stealing GH's idea and flipping it 180 degrees(such a new idea right?), I wanna know who you think isn't getting love and/or who you personally covet as a prospect. Disagreement with people's choices are fine...well except for mine I'll do the honors and go first: Martez Wilson, LB, Illinois I believe this guy is the total package for the 3-4, inside or outside ala Karlos Dansby. Has great athleticism for his size at 6-4, 250, which would be better suited at DE than MLB. Head Coach Ron Zook went as far as to compare him to former Illini great Simeon Rice out of HS(5* DE recruit). Long arms to go along with a long frame overall, could pack on 10-15 more pounds if necessary. He may overrun plays a bit, but can easily get back in them with his long reach and pure ability. His effort has been questioned, but I think that has to his apparent speed on the field, he's an Eric Dickson-esque "glider" if you will. Many look at 4-3 "tweeners" for Rush LBs, but I see one here already standing... What say you?
I think Cameron Jordan is going to fly up draft board in the beginning of march because he can play in any system and cause havoc.
My favorite prospect for 2011: Mikel Leshoure, RB, Ill Leshoure is 6'1', 230 and has rushed for 1700 yards in 2010 with a 6 yard avg per carry. 17 Tds. A strong upright runner that has NEVER lost a fumble in his career. Reminds me a little of Eric Dickerson. Very quick to hit the hole and has good vision. Hasn't been to involved in receiving, but could develop into a receiving threat, has good hands. Ran behind an average O-line, which makes his stats more impressive. I expect Leshoure to be even better than Rashad Mendenhall. Should be drafted in mid/late rd 1 or early rd 2, won't get past the Bengals in rd 2. I've mentioned this before, but I wouldn't hate the pick if the Jet's drafted Leshoure, depending if our Player( Sheard/Houston/ Heyward etc)was gone. I understand the need for front 7 help, but taking the BPA to help Sanchez wouldn't be a bad idea, especially if LT moves on. More than likely the Jets won't draft a RB in rd 1. Some Teams with possible interest: New England Miami St Louis Cincy
Nevada quarterback Colin Kaepernick Georgia Tech safety Jerrard Tarrant Kentucky jack-of-all-trades Randall Cobb Southern Cal running back Allen Bradford
Ill add the 3rd Fighting Illini to this list in Corey Liuget who I think should 100% be a 1st round pick. Iowa DE Adrian Clayborn has become underrated IMO, top 15 talent to me. Colorado CB Jimmy Smith And Louisville RB Bilal Powell (my personal sleeper!).
I think Wilson will also project extremely well at the next level. My problem is I just dont know what position to put him as. But thats almost a compliment to how talented he is, he could just excel just about anywhere I would also like to promote Derrick Locke in the Leon Washington type player. Much like his teammate Cobb, Locke is multi dimensional in his ability run, receive and return at the next level. I dont think he is going to be a full time player, but he is going to make a team very happy
TE Zach Pianalto, UNC- One of the best TEs in the nation before he broke his leg, he was on pace for a big year. Big athletic TE, if he's healthy for workouts he'll move right back up. WR Greg Little, UNC- Big, physical, stud. He might not move up that much during workouts because so much of what he does is YAC related. If Edwards goes, I really wouldn't mind seeing him as a Jet. He's still raw as a WR, but he'll be worth it. RB Damian Berry, Miami- Sir took my RB, Powell, so I'll give a Cane some love. Tough runner, he's a lot better than the zero pub he gets. CB Johnny Patrick, Louisville- He's a first round player. Anything left than someone's getting a stud. S Jermale Hines, Ohio State- Not getting talked about, but a good overall safety. If you saw OSU play you'd know he was always in the right place at the right time.
Call me crazy, but Locke reminds me of Jamal Charles, and not just because they both ran track. He has a nice gliding running style, especially off tackle. You can notice his long distance runner ability in his acceleration, very smooth all the way through. He also very surprising between the tackles, above average strength for his size. And of course his receiving and return ability, good threat for a QB to dump off to, drove me crazy back in '08 when he picked up 80+ receiving yards against Alabama. Not a starter in the league, but a very valuable and versatile role player indeed...
Jarvis Jenkins. He comes from a school people call "C-Block" and can play the 3 technique or the 5 technique... possibly adding versatility to a line that has an aging Kris Jenkins, a solid backup in Pouha and an overachieving Mike Devito.
Agreed, I think that Locke is actually more of a possibility than a guy like Leshoure because the Pats dont necessarily need a feature back and Locke has similar skills to a guy like Woodhead and he would probably cost less
Didn't the Gaytriots already extend Woodhead? I think they'll stick with the overachieving Green-Ellis and grab a back later in the draft.
Thats why I was suggesting it would make more sense to take a guy like Locke latter on and not an earlier pick on Leshoure
