The Jets need to improve their pass rush. Woodley would be an ideal signing. He would provide us with an outside pass rush we so desperately need. The only downside is he will cost a lot of money. The Patriots will also likely be bidding for his services, which should make him an even more priority.
Steelers outside linebacker LaMarr Woodley hasn't been informed formally yet, but he is "fully expecting" to be designated as the team's franchise player within the next two weeks, according to a source. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000...-to-be-franchised-by-steelers-in-coming-weeks
I remember that poll a few months ago about who people would prefer, Harris or Woodley. If the reason Harris was franchised was that a deal like that could be worked out, then I'd be very, very happy. That said, getting Woodley is a pipe dream, though I honestly don't believe he'll be a Steeler next year.
Im assuming that 30% rule is because its technically still the 2010 uncapped season ? And thus this would also apply to Braylon Santonio Cromartie Harris etc etc?
No just Harris because he was under contract from his rookie deal. (someone correct me if I am wrong) If it applies to guy like Braylon et al, Braylon for example made $6.something Million so 30% would be $1.8M + for a total of $7.8M/yr. That's probably what he and Santonio will be looking for on the open market anyway. These guys arent RFA's, I think they are UFA (too lazy to go find out)
wouldn't mind seeing the jets looking into Jonathan Joseph either, He will come cheaper than Asomougha and I think Revis-Joseph-Wilson would be a pretty formatible trio. How do you guys feel about Zibkowski and Weddle as free agent safties
Interesting. Why is that? Assuming no franchise tag, I'd imagine the Steelers will throw a shitload of money at him like everyone else will, and he'd want to stay in a LeBeau defense where he is comfortable. Why do you think he'd leave (if not franchised) and where do you see him going?
I think he will be a Steeler but the thinking is something like "Pitt can develop linebackers pretty well, Woodley may be a bit of a system player-he gets single teams when Harrison gets double teams so that helps his numbers-Timmons is a free agent next year and Harrison has a big contract so you can't have all three, so lets tag Woodley now and trade him when there's a new CBA and replace him with 2010 second round pick Jason Worilds."
There was a riff between woodley and the steelers because he didn't get an extension last off season. I think he went as far as saying he wouldn't be returning. But that was an entire year ago so who knows what's changed. tappin.. talkin..
They're all on their rookie contracts. Braylon is the only one who can be dealt with, and he should be the first priority. That's why it pisses me off to hear reports that they're making Holmes priority #1. We could have Braylon extended before March 4th. The 30% rule, BTW, only applies to salary, not signing bonus. Non-SB numbers for each of the 4: Edwards - $5.1 million Cromartie - $1.195 million Holmes - $1.4 million Harris - $900k Edwards can be extended, and should be the target for the next 3 weeks. I don't even want to hear anything from the FO about the other 3 in the meantime, and yet the others have captured the headlines. That tells me one of 2 things: 1) They're actively working with Braylon's agents on the down low, which is a distinct possibility with Tannenbaum. If Braylon wants to come back (and he's said this is the only place he feels comfortable playing) for $5 - 6 million, it's a no brainer. 2) They're waiting on Braylon to let him get a realistic sense of his value on the open market. He's not going to get $8 million+, but that could very well be what he's seeking. He'll get offers somewhere in the neighborhood of $6 - 7 million per. If that happens, he'd probably sign with the Jets for around 5 years, $30 million. He's more than worth that number. I'm obviously hoping for the former situation. There's no chance we get Cro for an initial salary of $1.5 million. Woody would have to commit to something absurd, like a $30 million signing bonus on a 5 year contract. Ditto for Holmes at $1.82 million. Edwards is signable if he's being reasonable, and that's where the focus should be right now.
And as much as I'd like to see Woodley here, it does seem unbelievably unlikely. Ditto for Hali since indications are he'll receive the tag in KC. The nice part is, if the labor agreement drags on, and we tag someone we intend to trade, we'll get picks in 2012, which is sure to be on a rookie scale. Ditto for compensatory picks if we lose multiple FAs and resign cheaper players.
It's nice although rookies picked after about the 15th pick of round one aren't that expensive. I can't imaginge compensatory picks being much cheaper in 2012 then they already are.
No, compensatory picks would probably stay the same. I just expect to see more of them in 2012 than we've had in years past. If we decide to trade Harris, I could see a team like Arizona trading a 2012 first for him and moving Daryl Washington into a backup role for a year behind Paris Lenon. God knows their run defense could use the help. It would be a great move for us as long as they don't intend to sign a real QB this offseason and keep using Skelton.
