We all know it's going to take many moves by Tanny to stay competitive this up coming season. If there is one move or one signing that you feel is realistic that could really put the JETS over the top next year, what would it be? Mine, I would love to see a new offensive coordinator. I know we beat Schotty in the head all the time but I feel his poor management of our running game (ie Greene), QB not giving Sanchez enough play calling responsibility, WR not getting the ball downfield enough, poor utilization of Cumberland and poor game planning (WTF happened in the first half of our games?). A strength at OC would really give us a great push next year. What do you think? ats_suck:
A poor use of Cumberland? He's unproven. How about a poor use of Dustin Keller. He disappears for games at a time.
I'm no expert on these matters, but aren't an OC and QB fairly well tied to each other? Notwithstanding Schotty's mistakes over the last couple of seasons, would it not make it harder for Mark and the rest of the offence to learn a bunch of new schemes than to leave him in place and let them continue to build on the lessons that they have learned together and the things they have learned about each other?
I would LOVE to see us make a strong push for Lamarr Woodley, I'm pretty sure hes a FA this offseason.
Despite everything we feel is wrong with the OC and play calling. The defense still had a chance to stop the Steelers and get the ball back. The Jets need game changers on defense. The way the defense works now is they jab-jab-jab // chop-chop-chop, until the opponent falls. They need players with knock out potential.
I don't get how people want to give Sanchez more playcalling responsibilities in his 2nd year. That's why the coaches make the decisions. Sanchez can take more responsibility this year, but not as much as people want. My wish list starts with the goal to get the defense back to 09 form. With that kind of defense and Rex's adaptability to QBs I don't see how the defense alone can't get them back to the Chip game. With Sanchez in the breakout year and Tanny keeping the weapons intact this team should finally get over the hump. Depth is still the key on this team. They have top starters in a lot of positions, its about finding guys that can step in for rotations or if someone goes down.
1) New CBA. 2) Retain as many of our starters as possible. 3) Draft front 7 on defense early and often. 4) Don't trade away any draft picks. 5) If possible, obtain more draft picks. I know this is a relatively vague wish list, but it's really as much detail as I can come up with at this point. Hopefully they can get this cba BS done quickly.
The biggest issue for QBs when they switch coordinators is the jargon that gets used-the same play will be called something different in every offensive system. There are a bunch of systems of core systems out there that are used by multiple teams (e.g. west coast, Coryell, the Erhardt-Perkins system that the Patriots, Chiefs, and now St. Louis run.) I'm not sure exactly what Schotty uses-I think it's a Coryell variant that he picked up in San Diego and modified some-but if a new coordinator used a related system it wouldn't be a huge adjustment at all.
1. Fire Brian Schottenheimer or demote him to ball boy 2. Re-sign Harris, Tone and BE 3. Find a way to replace Cro with either NA or Woodley 4. Move down from 30 to get extra picks. 5. Draft pass rushers (2x). 6. Draft a safety 7. Draft a TE 8. Get a new CBA
1. Keep Offense in tack - Sign BE and Holmes to reasonable deals at the 4 to 5 year range so this isn't a re-occuring off season tradition. Sign Brad smith and lock him up he is important to the Wildcat/KR/ and he is not a bad 4th WR. I don't think he will command as much money as people are thinking. 2. Lock up David Harris and give him his longterm deal, he deserves it. 3. #2 Corner - either sign Cro for the right money or bring in Asomougha or Jonathan joseph. Not that i don't believe in Wilson but look at the offense that just won the SB. To be contenders we are going to need 3 good corners. 4. Pass Rusher - I dont think Woodley will be around bc I think Pitt will lock him up. but there are plenty of FAs like Kiwanuka, Wimbley, Hali, D'Qwell Jackson, Lawson. Anyone of these guys can be brought in and are the right size, have pass rush ability and most of them are at that 4 or 5 year mark where they are in their primes. We brought Pace in for that reason and I have yet to see the great Pass rusher everyone thought he would be. 5. We don't have a lot of draft picks but this is suppose to be a very good DL class. Lets get some good young DE, OLB, and maybe even some DT
Sure is easy typing all that but having the money and doing it are going to be much harder. Not so much about having the money, it;s about having the cap room, Which is still a unknown obviously. ------------------- A NFLPA director has stated that now that he lid was off for a season it's going to be tough getting it back on. (On Twitter, after I asked him a question) That would be a dream come true for Jet fans, no salary cap for the entirety of Rex and Mark's time here.
It sure would, especially with all the pending FA's across the league. It will never happen though, not in a million years.
Or Kyle Wilson. And Woodley can play linebacker. But, I guess Rex can get creative and play him at corner.
Cullen Jenkins. We can use him as spare parts for Kris Jenkins so maybe we can get a full season out of him.
new CBA- everything after that means little if there's no football next year. once that happens, my wishlist will grow significantly.
