hahaha I did the same. Doesn't this guy know he set the record for the longest Jets FG? Da fuck. Like I said, CMON MAN.
God I want whatever you guys are taking...what is it shrooms? Jesus the longest kick ok yeah but can he do it on a consistent basis the answer is NO. We had to get to the 32 yard line for nick folk to kick the game winning kick in the colts game. 32 YARDS! Theres a reason why theres an expression out there called "folkin it up". dellusional...well once i get enough posts ill make a poll or whatever cause i can bet my hot girlfriend from columbia that 95 percent of this forum agrees with me.
We should get a new kicker because he makes you hold your breath? 1.) A 32 yard kick is not from the 32 yard line, even some of the most retarded NFL fans know that.....so that ruins the little credibility some people may have given you. 2.) Should we have kicked it from the 50 yard line? (zmog a 67 yard kick) for style points? We got as close as we could get to increase his percentages of making it, and he made the game winning kick in the playoffs....and you're knocking him for that.
It's another solid job, and in a previous mock I also advocated trading down. The more I think about it though, if there's a guy like Sheard or Houston on the board...a guy that has a chance to be a monster difference maker I think he needs to be taken. Reed is a nice player with a high motor but I'm not sure if double digit sacks are in his future. Jets are also giving up too much value on the chart. I know people are going to say, "well the difference is only 15 points" and that's true, but teams usually overpay to get back into the first.
I'll be that 95% of this board doesn't believe you have a hot girlfriend from Columbia. And if you want to take a knee to run the clock out and then kick the ball go ahead herm Edwards. And we know what to look for in folk. You don't.
anyways, back to the original topic at hand, the mock. I am starting to love Jarvis Jenkins. He seems to have a very similar versatility to Linval Joeseph (you know that guy last year that the whole board had started to love). Jenkins has the versatility that Rex loves. He might be able to play that Ngata role that Rex has been looking for since he arrived in NY. Obviously no one expects Jenkins to be Haloti Ngata, but he can be a damn good player, one that the Jets fans should be very excited about if he joins the roster in April. I'm also very intrigued by Hagg. He is a guy I haven't heard much about and to hear he is basically a Jim Leonhard clone is something I am very excited about, and would love to see him added. That is extremely high praise given by the Nebraska staff and it certainly amazing.
You expect Sheard and Houston to have "double digit" sacks in their future. I think you need to temper your expectations. First, a lot of people believe Houston is some kind of sackmachine. Houston has the perfect size and ability to play 3-4 OLB, he just isn't the most tenacious when it comes to getting to the QB. Houston had a great year (only year),(10) getting to the QB, but just doesn't look as aggressive as Sheard. QB pressures will be almost as important as sacks. IMO, Sheard is more aggressive getting in the backfield and plays with a meanstreak. I still wouldn't hope on double digit sacks from any OLB we draft. If we can get 8 sacks from a new OLB, I'd be thrilled. Like I mentioned, QB pressures will just as important. I think your "picking nits" about the Value chart, 15 points equates to a late 6 th pick. When you're OTC and want to make the deal, its a give and take situation. The Key to trading down in my scenario...getting a very good rush OLB and our next 3-4 DE that can play anywhere on the D-line. Without the trade, no Jenkins or Hagg (if we go with another DE in late Rd 3).
I'm on board for trading down this year to get back some of the picks we've traded away. Oakland is an interesting choice, WW85 your rationale makes sense to me. But, from what I am reading, if Sheard is there @ 30, why pass? It seems like from what you are saying safety is the key to your draft and while it may be important to address for viable back up to Leonhard, the Jets need starting help in other areas. (I'm assuming Leonhard makes a full recovery) Mr. E was saying E. Smith is great on special teams, and I agree, but I thought he was excellent in the playoffs as the starting SS. Did he play over his head? Maybe, but that's all you can ask for out of a back up. He's not the QB'ing safety you are looking for but he is certainly viable and because of this I think taking a safety early is not the right idea. UNLESS, of course, he is the type of playing Hagg could pan out to be. IDK maybe I talked myself in circles...
If Sheard is available at #30 it would be difficult to pass. I just wanted to show another option trading down. I think the key of the trade down is getting Jenkins in early/mid Rd 3. If we draft Sheard at #30, we can still get Hagg at the end of round 3, but Jenkins is out of the question. The trade is settling for Reed instead of Sheard and picking up Jenkins....I like this scenario.
Look @ my edit I just made, But, like I said, I'm all for addressing 2 needs in the front 7...with early picks.
Hagg brings better coverage skills to the Jet's Safety position. Smith and Leonhard lack coverage skills. Hagg is well rounded, isn't afraid to enforce the run and has good coverage skills and isn't a pussy when it comes to making tackles. Something I don't think that's been mentioned, Hagg is a good punt returner too. I believe he took a punt return to the house vs Texas. The Jet's scouts were talking to multiple Safeties at the Senior Bowl, so it looks like the Jets will address Safety with a mid round pick.
My expectations are over a career, not next season. I just think if Sheard is on the board, it behooves the Jets to take him. His upside in my opinion is ahead of Reed. Reed can be a solid player, Sheard can be a difference maker. That being said, if trading down is what has to happen in order for Tanny to replenish the depth on defense and infuse it with some much needed youth then I'm all for it. As a matter of fact, if this is how the draft turned out, I'd be thrilled. But if the Jets trade down, the way you mocked it is how it better turn out or I'll be pretty pissed off. I wouldn't nitpick on the value chart if last year in what was also considered a deep draft, teams didn't overpay according to the chart to either move up or get back in the first round.
Nice draft. I like stuff like this because you make an assesment and give us something to look for. About to youtube Hagg and the WR you named (since I know nothing about either). They both sound pretty intriguing!
Maybe Hagg is there in round 4 and the Jets have yet another successful 4th round pick. But by April, late 4th maybe too late for him. But to expect the Jets to stay where they are is foolish thinking come draft day.
WW85, I love this draft, mostly because we would end up with Brooks Reed. I would be thrilled if, when the draft ended, Reed was wearing a Jets uniform. Also, I really like the Vai Tua pick at round 7. I like his toughness and he would be a good fit here. What do you think about DeAndre McDaniel in the mid rounds though? I wouldn't be upset if we ended up with him, especially if Hagg is gone. Where is Sands projected to be picked? I'm a big fan of his.
In my opinion, we have two central options for our draft strategy, and you hit one of the options right on the head. We can either replenish a multitude of areas on the defense with effective players and also add a #3 WR type guy, OR sacrifice a little bit of the broad youth movement to land someone capable of an annual 10+ sacks beginning in his second year. Your plan nails that first option. Personally, I think that if Rex believes he can grab a difference making pass rusher, or a 10-year powerhouse along the line for us, at #30 then we should pull the trigger and pursue the second option. Otherwise it's trade down time, and I hope they bring your mock into the draft room. Nice work.
Excellent draft. I'm always somewhat hoping for a trade down to address depth issues, but never more so than this year. Someone mentioned Reed in another thread in reference to our first round pick. I said at the time that I loved watching him at Arizona, but it was just too high. I'd be thrilled if we traded back to the middle of the 2nd and took him. Arizona has had some playmakers on defense lately, and Reed has always impressed me. I will say that I still think LT could be back, and should stay healthy if McKnight is able to contribute, but with one FB on the roster in all likelihood, I still expect us to look at a RB in the draft this year to develop to step in next season. We could very well carry 5 RBs and prep Taua for next season. As Greene develops into more of a complete back, I love the idea of adding a bruiser to the backfield.
