I am simply stunned to read this. Why in the world would anyone want Pennington back as anything other than perhaps a QB coach? He's done. He should retire. There was no bigger fan of Chad Pennington's than me. I was ecstatic when the Jets drafted him, but after all the injuries and surgeries, his arm is shot. He's smart and could still manage a game, but cannot make most of the throws a pro QB needs to make. Opposing Ds know there are few throws he can make and would crowd 8 men in the box, the Jets wouldn't be able to run the ball, and the offense would return to scoring less than 17 points a game with him playing QB. The Jets must have a backup that can throw all the throws and get the ball downfield.
GTFO I'll pass on Pennington http://digitalsportsdaily.com/nfl/injuries/4769-chad-pennington-injured-on-first-possession.html
For real, seems people are forgetting that the backup might actually need to play at some point during the season.
How many snaps did Brunell take this season? He is only 1 year older now. IMO the backup should be able to come into a game and not mess it up if necessary. The 3rd stringer is the one who should be able to play long term since it is usually a younger, developmental type of guy. Pennington conceivibly is a hell of a backup. We all know he's not going to win a Super Bowl but he is more than capable of coming in and managing an offense if need be. Granted all his parts are working.
The problem is, QBs go down in the NFL with regularity. Sanchez is not Roethlisberger. He's already been dinged up a bit. Brunell can still play. Chad can't. No way I'd want Chad playing QB for the Jets, either for the Jets or his sake. It's time for him to get on with his coaching career.
Very happy to hear this, due to his physical attributes being similar to Sanchez's, I can not think of a better QB from him to learn from for all of the reasons already mentioned.
Agreed, and I love Chad. He has a lot to offer in a coaching capacity if he feels inclined to go that route. But I cannot believe he's making yet another comeback.
You ever notice Henne RARELY throws downfield? Dude has a monster arm but doesn't want to take deep shots. Kinda like Pennington, except he didn't have the monster arm.
Seems like Brees is the go to guy these days. Josh Freeman worked with him last off season. Now Sanchez this season. Heard someone on the NFL network saying Cam Newton should contact Brees at some point too.
Sanchez needs to model his game a little after brees. they are essentially the same height, so they encounter similar problems in the pocket. that and brees is a pure passer who gets the most out of his offensive talent, if he can help Mark develop those kinds of intangibles, we will be much better off.
I wouldn't kill a flea for that, it's over with Chad. Good soldier, decent QB, it was good for a couple years. What I would kill for however is for Sanchez to have a season like Brees did in 2009. Hopefully this goes a long way to making that happen.
^ The Braylon and Santonio TD grabs from the Pats playoff game give me goosebumps every time I see them.
Mixed feelings about these highlights videos. Don't get me wrong it is awesome watching these great plays from the last two years, but I can't help being reminded of the fact they have been so close the last 2 years and not made it.
Well Sanchez is a clutch guy in his first two years. As he just needs more to reach the big time and the Super Bowl. As Brees and Brunell can guide him!
