Wanted to do a mock a little different than most of the generic one's I've been seeing.

Jets trade their 1st Rd Pick# 30 to the Oakland Raiders for their Rd 2 pick #48 & Rd 3 #81. Al wants back in rd 1.

     NY JETS'S MOCK DRAFT

Rd 2 # 48 (from Oak)Brooks Reed, OLB, Arizona....non-stop motor, was practically unblockable in the Senior Bowl. Jets trade down and get a very good OLB that can get to the QB. Reed would be an excellent value in mid-round 2. May not have the combine #s to elevated his stock into rd 1. Lot's of heart and effort player.

Rd 3 #81 (from Oak) Jarvis Jenkins, DE/DT, Clemson....versatile player that can play inside and also the 5 technique in our 3-4. Rex loves to move his D-line around and Jenkins would be an excellent fit. A solid, not a spectacular player, could be our next 3-4 end. Perfect fit for the Jet's defense.

Rd 3 Eric Hagg, FS, Nebraska....I was thrilled to hear the Jet's scouts were talking to Hagg at Senior Bowl week. Extremely intelligent player that takes good angles to the ball. Team leader on defense. I expect his stock to rise.

Rd 4 Clint Boling, G/OT, Georgia....has played almost every position on Georgia's O-line. Depth with the departure of Woody and competition for Vlad. Not a great athlete, but could eventually be a starter at RT or G.

Rd 5 Dane Sanzenbacher, WR, OSU.....Tough player that catches everything in his direction. Not afraid to go over the middle. Our new slot receiver. Tanny decides he needs to join the Pats and add their 3 step drop receiver. This pick is a no brainer, Sanzenbacher will be a succesful #3 WR. Seen his entire career, never let his team down.

Rd 6 Jalil Brown, CB, Colorado.........Watching a few Colorado games to see Jimmy Smith...Brown impressed me. Seemed to be very aggressive and made plays. I don't expect Cro to be back and adding another CB later in the draft makes sense.

Rd 7 Vai Taua, RB, Nevada....Big RB that runs very well downhill. Doesn't get a lot of Pub in Nevada's passing game, but is a solid player. Has good hands out of the backfield. Good compliment with Greene and Joe McK. Sorry, I don't think LT will be back, I hope I'm wrong. He just ran out of gas the last 1/3 of the season.

Good job. If for no other reason, I love this draft because it a) has a trade down to get value and an additional pick; b) addressed the pass rushing need in an excellent way; c) addresses depth at a variety of positions.

I'm not up to par on all the individual players included yet. I'll have to leave that to others.

That's an awesome draft - I think the minority of this fan base that actually knows what's going on would be excited about a trade down.

Brooks Reed is a bad man rising. I think he'd quickly become a fan favorite.

I have no idea why Eric Hagg is so underrated. He's a very good player.

I think Cromartie will be back, but that doesn't mean we should grab another defensive back in this draft - that prospect would probably make an impact on specials early. However, Hagg would fill an important role, pushing Eric Smith and James Ihedigbo for playing time - both of those guys are solid special teamers.

^ If we drafted a safety in the mid-rounds, I'd rather see this team go after another front seven player...whether it be a developmental inside backer or another defensive end.

I like Sheard more than Reed for obvious, illogical reasons but this draft would be sweet. Especially if Eric Hagg makes it to the third round.

Sanzenbacher is an interesting prospect for the slot position. I watched a lot of OSU games this season and he really impressed with his hands and his willingness to take the punishment on crossing routes. He's definitely a guy who can take the hit and hold on.

Jenkins' flexibility would be a great asset to the DLine. Rex's defense thrives on flexibility and being able to play both DE and NT could make him one of the most dangerous weapons. Maybe not a guy with Ngata's talent but a guy who could fill Ngata's roll on D.

    Thanks man!!

We really need to trade down, if possible. There is some excellent talent in rounds 2-4.

I wanted to get a ILB, but with the Harris being tagged talk, I went another direction.

I believe Jarvis Jenkins was in GH's mock, but I didn't realize it till after I posted. Jenkins could be the best pick the Jet's make defensively, perfect for our defense. I just don't know if JJ will be available in Rd 3.

I agree about Hagg, that's why I gave him a Rd 3 grade.

Jalil Brown is going to make a NFL roster.

I know you know Taua well.....he's a tough SOB for only 5'10' and 220....a bowling ball with decent speed.

Taua's a very good player - I'm interested to see what his 40 time is because he broke off a lot of long runs at Nevada.

It's probably because he's such a powerful, explosive runner that those runs happened, but I wouldn't be surprised if he ran pretty well.

I've been advocating a trade down! Good to see a mock with this idea in place.

Reed is solid. And Jenkins can play every front that Rex draws up. Rex gets the most out of his DL, so I don't see Jenkins disappointing.

Hagg has ST ability. Is his stock going to hit the beginning of day 3? I'll I've read is he's a late rounder.

the rest i'm unfamiliar with except for what I saw out of Dane in the senior bowl week. I really like him from that footage alone. New Chrebet candidate this fanbase can drool over, but he'll actually stick.

Over the past couple nights, I've been looking into players that could possibly fill that versatile role on our defensive line. There's one guy that sticks out - it's not someone that I would've thought of in the past either.

I'm not going to put out a mock for a while, but I plan on starting up a potential 3-4 front seven prospect thread by the weekend.

Hagg's a guy that will rise in interviews - he's a smart kid with unquestioned leadership ability...the kind of player that could eventually run a defense down the road.

He'd be great in Jimmy Leonhard's role.

*Also, Bill Callahan's staff recruited Eric Hagg.

    1) Do you like Reed more than Sheard & Beal or do you just think he might drop while the other 2 won't?

    2) Like the Jenkins pick... he'll likely be there at the top of rd 3... not so sure he'll be there at the end of rd 3. Agree about him fitting in what Rex likes to do with the DL.

    3) I believe you... why do you consider him better than a guy like Sash?

Like the rd 4 & 5 picks... I expect the Jets to take a WR in one of these two rounds and it's a smart idea to look for a backup OG/OT. If we can't re-sign Turner I wonder if we might even draft a OG/C kind of guy...

Like the idea of drafting a big back...

That's the reason that I want him for this team. He can cover, play in the box and direct traffic. Hagg could make a huge impact on this defense, and then go on to lead this defense.

    1) I think Sheard's potential to be an impact player is greater, but at what cost?? Reed could be almost as effective, but not as dynamic of a playmaker. I doubt we would be disappointed with either of them.

    3) Sash is a similar player, I like Hagg's upside better.

I remember reading an article about Nebraska's 2010 defense - their secondary coach said he'd build a defense around Hagg over players like Jared Crick and Prince Amukamara.

Apparently, Nebraska built their current scheme around Hagg and his versatility. That says a lot about him as a player considering the talent on the Huskers' defense.

Couldn't agree more, notice I put in Hagg's bio "Team leader on defense". Like you said, with Crick and Prince that's a huge compliment.

That's an amazing compliment given who he played with. Hagg's leadership is going to be his greatest asset in the NFL. Not to say his coverage and tackling will be lacking.

Hagg is the type of player this defense needs. Even if he would be sitting behind Jim Leonhard on the depth chart we would still know that we have two solid safeties rather than one starter and a question mark next to him.

We need to bring in some safety talent. Pool was a one year rental and Smith has never been consistent. Lowery is still a question mark. He's a good ballhawk but at certain points this season, even at safety, his decision-making has been questionable. I like him on the team but he's better as a rotational guy than a starter.

Hagg would shore up the position and eventually take the reigns.

Nice I like the draft. I especially like the Clint Boling pick. I'm still not entirely sold with Brooks Reed as a 2nd round pick, but he did have a good Senior Bowl. Still he can rush the passer so I cant complain too much. I dont love the Dane Sanzenbacher, Id like a guy who is faster and a little bigger.

I like the recent safeties that come out of Georgia Tech - Morgan Burnett and Dawan Landry specifically.

Jerrard Tarrant is going to be a riser at the position - if he's around in middle rounds, I'd like to see the Jets grab him to pair with someone like Eric Hagg.

Like Hagg, he's got great versatility. He's going to be a big time kick returner at the next level and he's a playmaker. I like Dwight Lowery, but Tarrant is a game-changer on specials and on defense.

I wouldn't mind grabbing two safeties this year especially if we lost Pool - I know we have bigger needs, but these two would be incredibly upgrades down the line.

Is Hagg the type of player that would start alongside Leonard, or would he wind up being a future replacement?

I think the two of them could be on the field at the same time, but Hagg would be perfect in Leonhard's role.
